Al Cimaglia: Hoosier Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

    November 7, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Hoosier Park has a 13-race card featuring 3-year-olds in the Catholic Cowboys Series. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 10, it has a 12% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selection below are based on a fast track.

    Race 10 (8:57 PM EDT)

2-Miracle Maven (7/5)-Winner in 4 of the last 5 and gets significant post relief for this affair. The only loss came 2 back from post 8, did get the top and lost by a length. Got another difficult journey from post 8 in last, was hung the mile and won by a length. Can race much closer to the lead off the car here and should have her way with this crew.

    Race 11 (9:20 PM EDT)

3-A New Endeavor (6-1)-Will look for better value and fade #2 the 2-1 ML chalk and will start with a square price. Comes off a dull try after winning 2 in a row, and one of the pictures came against straight Open company. Gets class relief and is worth a swing at this price and will look for a new win streak to begin.
4-M-M-S Bud (7/2)-Will toss last from post 10 and has been in the hunt at the wire in the previous 4 starts. Jay Cross should work a smooth trip with this post draw, and the fractions could be lively. Can roll late and is a threat if racing near the top of the stack turning for the wire.
5-Brookview Bullet (3-1)-Using and thinking the morning line price is too low. Ships back from DTN off a solid try and did win 2 back at HoP going gate to wire from post 7. This will be a test, but has the gate speed to be put in play when the wings fold and has a tactical advantage on others.

    Race 12 (9:43 PM EDT)

3-Miss Fancy Nancy (5-1)-Come off a decent race leaving from post 10 and this is a consistent check casher against this kind. Trace Tetrick stuck with #7 and that helps the price. Should be no worse than in the pocket off the car and can beat this group with a top try.
4-Can'ttouchthese (7/2)-Comes off an 8th place finish and was hung the mile. This race should set up differently and will look for a bounce back effort at a fair price.
7-Westwinds (7/2)-This is the 2nd race at HoP, and the 2nd start since shipping in from Kentucky. The Tetrick-George combo should be respected as usual. Goes back on Lasix and will look for improvement in its 2nd race on this oval.

    Race 13 (10:06 PM EDT)

4-Chandler Bing (3-1)-The Alvin Miller pupil has won 4 of 10 on the season. Has good speed, faces a beatable field and should be in the hunt at the wire.
9-Deal The Odds (20-1)-Price shot has put in 3 good efforts in the last 4 starts and drew post 10 the only time it missed a check. Has gate speed to get a close-up seat despite the post draw and will look for an aggressive steer with the driver change to Luke Plano.
10-Ima Perfect Choice (7/2)-Ships in to HoP from Yonkers which is interesting and has a 151.2 mark at Vernon Downs this year. Jordan Ross needs to find a way to race with the leaders early on in the mile. Has hit the board in 18 of 23 with 8 pictures this year and it's best to respect in its Hoosier debut.

    $1 Late Pick 4

    2/3,4,5/3,4,7/4,9,10
    Total Bet=$27

      Del Mar Pick 4, November 7, 2025

      November 7, 2025 | By Frank Carulli

      DEL MAR PICK 4
      Friday, November 7, 2025

It’s the calm after the storm at Del Mar this Friday, Nov. 7. The Breeders’ Cup Word Championships are settled, now it’s time for the California breds to take the stage for three races that are part of the 50-cent Late Pick 4. Here’s a closer look:

DMR 5th race (5:30 p.m. EST) -- P TOWN PRANCER pressed the 32-1 winner but gave way after a half-mile off an eight-month layoff. He makes his first start as a gelding and for a claiming price and can make good use of his speed for trainer Doug O’Neill, who won two MSW turf races last week at Del Mar and has seven sprint-to-route turf winners with a $3.20 R.O.I in the past year. SHAPOVAL earned three mid-60 Beyers and finished in the money twice in one-mile races on firm footing at Santa Anita. He steadied behind a troubled rival last out at Del Mar while the two short-priced favorites got away from the field. FIGHT BACK, plagued by recurring trouble lines, gets a needed break from MSW company but draws outside in this $50,000 maiden claiming route for statebreds. He raced much closer to the pace when he last wore blinkers as he will today.

DMR 6th race (6:00 p.m. EST) -- The 2-3-4-5 finishers from the same race under these conditions reunite in this $32,000 maiden claimer. FLASHY FRITZ set all the fractions but he drifted and bumped the even-money winner in mid-stretch and settled for second. But be duly warned: the nine entrants in that race were a combined 28/0-2-1 coming in and a claim on the winner was voided by the vet. Hit the ‘ALL’ button in Leg B of the Pick 4.

DMR 7th race (6:30 p.m. EST) -- ANDTHEHOMEOFTHEBRAVE dueled and finished 1-2-3 in his three 5F turf sprints at Del Mar. But he was no match at 6F for TITANIC THOMPSON, who put away the top one at the top of the stretch, only to get caught by a pair of deep closers, including 46-1 shot GOOD COUNCIL. Use TITANIC THOMPSON as a solo play, but add ANDTHEHOMEOFTHEBRAVE if there are any scratches on our ticket below.

DMR 8th race (7:00 p.m. EST) -- VICTORIA’S JEWEL pressed recent stakes winner Too Sassy to the quarter pole in her debut, maintained ‘command through the turn’ before the deep closers arrived in her second start and wilted again at 5-1/2F last out. She has the speed of morning-line favorite LADY K WESTFALL to contend with today, but the class drop could be the answer. If the favorites duel each other into defeat, SOUTHERN ANTON is a viable longshot worth using on the ticket. She just missed after a stretch-long battle with the winner in her MSW debut at Emerald Downs, but was no factor at this level in a follow-up try at Santa Anita. The ninth-place finisher in her debut won by 6 lengths next out with a 63 Beyer.

      Suggested 50-Cent Ticket
      DMR 5th Race: 1, 4, 9
      DMR 6th Race: ALL
      DMR 7th Race: 3
      DMR 8th Race: 7, 9, 11
      Cost: $40.50

        Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

        Del Mar - Race #1
#5 Tiger of the Sea Speed stayed well when third last time out, and he looks like the controlling pace from out here and could seal the deal today.
#1 Della Terra She could handle this group easily, but I would have liked to see just a touch more punch from her last time out. She has tables to turn on a couple who beat her that day and has come up short at 90 cents on the dollar in both of her last two races. I don't know...
#2 Apple Pie Take a look at her on the track and tote ahead of this, but she might not have to be a star to land a piece of this at first asking.
Race Summary Tiger of the Sea should be able to control the tempo here, and that's a dangerous edge in a small field.
        Del Mar - Race #3
#9 Adia She ran a good one in a solid race here this summer, and I wonder if some of the new faces will be interesting enough to keep the price mildly playable here? Will take her experience edge with good form.
#3 Stars Hollow She's the most interesting debuter to me on paper, so I'll start with her when taking a look at the fresh faces on the track.
#2 Marla Hooch Another firster for a capable team, she's bred to enjoy this short trip and wouldn't be any surprise right out of the box.
Race Summary Adia brings the only serious form on paper in here, so I'm hoping that will stack up well enough with some interesting newcomers.
        Del Mar - Race #8
#11 Victoria's Jewel She hasn't stayed late in her three starts, but her best try came over the local footing, and she draws well to attack from out here in a race without a ton of serious pace.
#7 Lady K Westfall She looks like the other main pace player in here, I just assume we'll get a better price up top. Nothing clever here -- think it's one of the forward players.
#3 Big Coin She missed at 4/5 last out at Los Al, and she's not entirely out of the question if she can find a good spot to spy the top two as they sort out the early scores.
Race Summary Victoria's Jewel draws well to prompt the pace here, and I'm hoping that draw advantage gives her enough to make the day tough for Lady K Westfall, who figures to be right there in the early mix, too.

          Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

          Del Mar - Race #4
#2 MONGOLIAN MAX (5-2) Idle since July claim, good one-mile form, :59.1 bullet work encouraging.
#5 RESEMBLANCE (4-1) Stands 7/2-1-3 with more than $42,000 in earnings at this distance.
#3 SUPERMAX (12-1) Can rally into gimmick wagers if she avoids another troubled start.
Race Summary MONGOLIAN MAX chased a fast pace but couldn’t hold off the favorite or deep-closing runner-up when claimed four months ago. He won twice in his last six one-mile runs at Santa Anita and could win again while racing for the cheapest claiming price of his career. Bet to win and place and play a 2-ALL exacta.
          Del Mar - Race #1
#6 PAVEL’S ETOILE (2-1) Loomed boldly on turn off 11-month layoff, missed in blanket finish.
#1 DELLA TERRA (9-5) Second in deep turf sprint in March, beaten fave in return versus main rivals today.
#5 TIGER OF THE SEA (5-2) Takes catching on cutback to 5F, erratic in stretch last out, sheds blinkers.
Race Summary TIGER OF THE SEA set the pace, turned back PAVEL’S ETOILE when she drew alongside late on the turn but weaved in and out through the stretch, probably costing her the victory. Both runners came off lengthy layoffs, but go with PAVEL’S ETOILE at a projected better price in the 5F rematch. Bet on PAVEL’S ETOILE to win and place and play 6-1 and 6-5 exactas.
          Del Mar - Race #2
#2 TOPPERS AT SEASIDE (3-1) Smashing maiden score, taken to repeat if he doesn’t ‘bounce.’
#5 SCATIFY (8-5) Dueled, just missed despite bad start at 6-1/2F, mid-80 Beyers in 3 of prior 5 on dirt.
#3 OUR CONSIGLIERE (5-1) Finished 2 lengths behind Scatify, worked 4F in :48.1 since then.
Race Summary TOPPERS AT SEASIDE pulled away from the pursuing even-money favorite midway on the final turn en route to a 10-1/4-length maiden victory and an eye-catching 87 Beyer at this distance. The performance was validated when the runner-up came back with a 12-3/4-lenghth victory with an 82 Beyer. Bet to win and place and play 2-3 and 2-5 exactas.

CAJUN EXPECTATION is the strongest bet in this race. Has been running soundly and has among the most competitive speed in the race for today's distance. Should definitely be given a shot for this race if only for the decent Equibase Speed Figure garnered in the last contest. This animal has to be in good form coming back to the track so quickly. MISS BEE BOP - Has a solid shot in this competition if you like back class. Overall the speed figs of this pony look very good in this contest. CHEROKEE CASTLE - Have to play this mare with the strong earnings per start in dirt sprint contests. I would have to consider this mare on the jock and trainer numbers alone.

IF YOU INSIST - This gelding is in exceptional condition right now. Finished first in the last race and comes back rapidly. This mount has multiple victories at the same distance we're running today. U S ARMY CORPS - Strong return on investment for this jockey and conditioner tandem. MEHLEK - Entered at the same class level and distance of his last win, which is a big plus for this horse. Flores and Tharrenos perform well when they unite. It's hard to beat a +184 ROI for a jock and trainer. Always watch out for the longer priced animal when a trainer has an 'uncoupled' entry in a race. Trainer Tharrenos moves this horse down in class to face a lower class field. Look for a good race with this class drop. FAST AND READY - This gelding seems to like to win at a big price. Look for this gelding to run much better in this event. Last race at Fort Erie finishing fifth on a sloppy track is no indication of his true talent. GOOD SIN - A thoroughbred coming back this quickly after a sharp race is a good omen. Multiple wins in this horse's life, all at Woodbine. Could add another win right here.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 MANNIX (IRE) (ML=3/1),

MANNIX (IRE) - Unlikely that this horse will finish better than he did last time when ending up sixth. Mediocre fig in the last race at Woodbine at 7 furlongs. Don't believe this steed will improve too much in today's event.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - U S ARMY CORPS - Closed nicely on October 24th at Woodbine. Should do well stretching out to 1 1/16 miles today.

                    # 11 J SQUARED 8/1
PEACETHRUSTRENGTH has a formidable shot to take this race. Tough to pass on this colt with Husbands in the saddle. The average class rating of 73 makes this horse difficult to beat. Overall the Equibase Speed Figs of this pony look very strong in this competition. MESSAGEFROMTHEKING - Could provide positive dividends based on formidable recent Equibase Speed Figures with an average of 74. The average Equibase class figure of 74 makes this entrant tough to beat. J SQUARED - Recorded a strong speed rating in the last race. Can run another good one in this affair. With one of the strongest jockeys in terms of profits at the window, don't count this gelding out.

                      Aqueduct - Race #5 - Post: 1:40pm - Maiden Optional Claiming - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $70,000 Class Rating: 70

                      Rating:

                      #6 CREDIT RISK (ML=5/2)
                      #7 DANIELLA MARIE (ML=7/2)
                      #1 SPARKLING MAMA (ML=8/1)

CREDIT RISK - After the contest aboard this horse on Sep 12th, the jock is going to be in touch with the filly much better. Is ranked highest in earnings per start. A dominant outing in this race can add to that total. DANIELLA MARIE - This rider and conditioner's equines have been generating a beneficial return on investment. Taking a trip down the ladder based on class; has the class to make her presence felt. SPARKLING MAMA - Faced tougher last out at Belmont at the Big A. Based on Equibase class figures, this is a weaker field, so I will put this thoroughbred on my list of top contenders. I think that today's shorter distance should help this filly. Have to forget about that last race on the turf. This filly should do better hitting the dirt in this field.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #2 IT'S CAROL'S WAY (ML=7/2), #3 CLARIVIDENTE (ML=6/1), #8 LADY ROSE (ML=8/1),

IT'S CAROL'S WAY - I forecast a disappointing effort for this horse in this event. CLARIVIDENTE - Tough to support any thoroughbred that runs as well as she did and then lays up and doesn't workout at all. LADY ROSE - This less than sharp equine will likely be pulling up the rear as this bunch crosses the finish.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - DANIELLA MARIE - The conditioner is getting serious with this filly today. The 'hood' on for this race.
