Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    November 10, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

1-Joemikiyoursofine (5-1)-Drops to a more competitive level and now can use its gate speed from the rail to get a cozy trip. Hasn’t done well at YR only (1-18) but could be overlooked and there isn’t a true standout in this affair.
3-Aye Aye Captain N (5/2)-The Ricky Bucci veteran loves to cash checks. Had been in the money 21 of 30 starts this year and has taken 10 pictures. Also, hit the board in 20 of 27 races at YR and has posted 10 wins. Brent Holland should be stalking close to the leaders and drops to the level of it last win that came 3 back.
7-Copperfield (3-1)-Jason Bartlett sticks here and gets off #3 Vicious who has won 2 straight versus this kind. Has good gate speed but my guess is Bartlett leaves but may not be hell-bent to get on the point. Could get a close up seat and then look to make one big brush and roll by in an interesting affair.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

3-Diego N (9/5)-Has been a clear winner in the last 3 starts and earned the right to step up and battle the Invites. Can’t see Bartlett not landing on the point and controlling this affair. But Desperate Man could have the same plan in mind, and the fractions should be lively. Will rely on the Engblom trainee to get its preferred trip.
6-Verdun (6-1)- If the 2 chalks push each other and the factions are spicy this 5-year-old should be lurking close by. Can offer a nice price, does well coming off cover and can be in striking range in a race that could set up for a closer.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

4-Curly James A (8/5)-Aussie bred made every call a winning one in last and now bumps up. Not sure how much the Engblom pupil has to give. Looking for Bartlett to squeeze every bit out of this 8-yr-old in its 2nd start on Lasix.
5-All Alone (8-1)-George Brennan post 21% winners for the Forte barn and that is good for this pilot. If Brennan is aggressive, he leaves and lands no worse than in the pocket. This looks like a spot to come with a big try. Could wake up on the drop in class, but will need Brennan to be engaged, and is worth a swing at this price.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

2-Topville Somebeach (9/2)-This 5-year-old won 2 straight in the Laterza barn, and then was claimed away and won again. Steps up in class and is back with Laterza after being claimed . This level will be a test and gets a new set of hands in Yannick Gingras. Likes to get on the engine and has a pilot that knows how to land on the point.
3-Always Cuttinschool (9/2)-Rolled the back half in 55.1 to win in last and that picture came against this kind from the same post. The fractions should be hotter this time and that can help its chances. Colin Kelly drives as usual and could double up at a square price.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    1,3,7/3,6/4,5/2,3
    Total Bet=$48

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mahoning Valley - Race #2
#1 Valid Connection There is no finishing form on paper in here, but I wonder if this guy might be the right one to handle the early dispute with the chalk and find enough to stay? His form has been better since arriving in Ohio, and maybe he can plug away at this two-turn trip to land this as the second choice.
#3 Pico Plat He's got some pace to find a forward spot along with the top choice, and he's finding a pretty mild spot while trying a local crew for the first time. The clear one to beat.
#2 Predecessor He got past a few horses last time out when sprinting, but I don't love his route form that is typically much flatter late. Think he needs a few things to go his way to land this.
Race Summary Valid Connection and Pico Plat seem to lead a top-heavy race, but I wonder if the former will be a touch better price on the board.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #6
#6 Rivers Angel She's still a little cheap for this group while rising off her graduation run to meet some statebred stakes types, but she has been pretty honest and might get a really nice run tracking the committed pace players.
#4 Dunn's River She couldn't stay going long last out and has some obvious room to bounce back today while returning to a sprint trip, and I think she has the right kind of tracking style to stay close and punch on late. One of the ones.
#1 Gray Perfection Turnback player is quick enough to find a forward spot from the fence, but I think the trip could get tricky in a spot with a few other pace and chasing types lined up.
Race Summary Rivers Angel might trip out today while spying the pace, and she's almost surely overlooked on the board on the class rise.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#8 Ides of Demarch Keep an eye on her on the tote board, as I'm hoping the capable California invader will keep the price playable with a good tracking run waiting for her from out here.
#5 Smoove Mover She's had her share of chances in California already, but I also wouldn't argue that hard with you if you wanted to lean in and hope her company lines just outclass this group. Not sure the margins are that wide....
#3 Shady Nights She's another who might find a decent spying run, and she has found the Ohio circuit a bit more to her liking in recent starts. In the mix.
Race Summary The question here is if you're with or against Smoove Mover -- you've got to either dive in and hope her California form is just better than what the rest are bringing to the gate today.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Turf Paradise - Race #3
#1 VERDI (4-1) Good form at Emerald Downs, distance should suit, turf the question.
#5 CANCUN NATIVE (5-1) Gets Lasix, new trainer on 9-for-19 run in turf sprints.
#4 DJOSER (9-5) Best grass numbers despite slow-starting habit, enters new barn.
Race Summary VERDI starts fresh with three local workouts and is in a good spot if he handles the transition to turf. He angled out from the 2-path for the stretch drive and just missed in a blanket finish at 6-1/2F last out and his dam was a two-time stakes winner at going a route of ground. Bet to win and place and play a 1, 5 over 1, 4, 5 exacta.
        Turf Paradise - Race #4
#8 RUN YOUR MOUTH (7-2) Out-dueled the second fave but settled for second best at in longer sprint.
#4 STANDARD PRESSURE (3-1) Exits ‘key’ debut grass sprint for Diodoro, adds blinks, one to beat.
#9 EVANS VALLEY GIRL (6-1) Steady works at Emerald and Albuquerque, begins career here.
Race Summary RUN YOUR MOUTH won the duel from the 5-to-2 pace setter in the stretch but couldn’t hold off the deep-closing winner in a 5-1/2F sprint at Canterbury. She earned her top speed figure off a similar freshening and wears blinkers for the first time. Bet to win and place and play 8-4, 8-9 and 4-8 exactas.
        Turf Paradise - Race #6
#6 SUN GLASSES (7-2) Sat good trip behind the faves on dirt, gets class relief, has win on TuP lawn.
#8 OH ANGEL (6-1) Ran 1-2 in 6 of 8 starts on turf, can get first run on main rivals.
#5 CHAMAVILLE (3-1) Rallied for a win, two seconds and a third in last five miles on the lawn.
Race Summary In a field of proven turf milers, SUN GLASSES gets the nod on her return to Turf Paradise, where she last won at this distance in a $15,000 claimer in March. She sat a good trip behind the dueling favorites when third last out at Emerald Downs, but those two rivals are a combined 12-for-54 with $268k in earnings. Bet to win and place and play a 5-6-8 exacta box.

              # 1 BETA 7/2
I think TETSU is a very good choice. Must be considered given the class of races run as of late. He has posted respectable numbers under today's conditions and should fare well against this group. NUTSIE - Don't let this gelding slip past you. Could win at a juicy mutuel. He should have a strong showing versus this softer field. BETA - Should be carefully examined here on the basis of the numbers in the speed department alone. Should be given a shot - I like the figures from the last competition.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #5 - Post: 2:07pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $14,600 Class Rating: 71

                Rating:

                #1 SAILINGTHEISLANDS (ML=4/1)
                #2 BOUND TO SUCCEED (ML=10/1)
                #5 DAYTONA GOLD (ML=5/1)

SAILINGTHEISLANDS - This gelding should be in top form, this far into his form cycle. I like this gelding a lot here. He shows a lot of consistency, finishing in the money frequently. Took a big class drop last out, and I think he may have needed it. Mahan enters him at a similar class level today. I'd expect an improved performance. I just may give this one a shot. Should rebound off last race where he did run outside the top 3, but was within 5 lengths at the finish. BOUND TO SUCCEED - A pony coming back this quickly after a good contest is a good omen. Gelding won shipping here on October 20th and looks good right back. I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run his best in the 3rd or 4th start back. DAYTONA GOLD - My handicapping know-how tells me to watch out for this entrant in this event

                Vulnerable Contenders: #4 QUARANTINO (ML=7/2), #9 STAROFTHEGAME (ML=9/2), #10 ASK ISAAC (ML=6/1),

QUARANTINO - Hasn't been winning recently when made the favorite. Take a look at his record. STAROFTHEGAME - In any contest of 6 furlongs, I like to support a contender that has been sharp in short distance events recently. No value in making a bet on this vulnerable equine. Probably won't improve off that October 23rd event. ASK ISAAC - This gelding registered a speed figure in his last event which likely isn't good enough in today's event.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - BOUND TO SUCCEED - At Mahoning Valley Race Cour on October 20th this gelding posted a speed figure of 65 in his last race. He has the best last figure in the field.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #1 SAILINGTHEISLANDS on the win end if we get at least 7/2 odds
                EXACTA WAGERS: Box [1,2,5]

                  # 10 SMOOTH MOTION 8/1
BANJO looks to be the wager in here. Ought to go to the front end and may never look back. DRUNKLE - Should be given consideration here on the basis of the figures in the speed department alone. Reason to like this gelding as he has in the irons one of the best jocks using winning percentages over the last month. SMOOTH MOTION - Is worth taking a close look at and may be a bet - strong speed figures (76 average) at today's distance and surface lately. Has been running admirably lately and will probably be on the front end early on.

                    Rating:

                    #4 CAPTAIN ANNE (ML=6/1)

CAPTAIN ANNE - This mare is in good form. Finished second on Oct 27th. Possibly a peak effort for this mare today. Been getting closer with each recent start. Trainer, Smith, has been deliberate with this mare off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. The 71 last race speed rating looks strong in the TrackMaster PPs.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #5 ROCK THE BIRDHOUSE (ML=3/1), #6 POUR ME A DRINK (ML=4/1), #9 BOCCABELLA (ML=5/1),

ROCK THE BIRDHOUSE - Hard to put your dough on the win end of any animal that finishes second and third as often as this one does. POUR ME A DRINK - Hard to put your money on the win end of any horse that finishes second and third as regularly as this entrant does. 4/1 is not worth it for any entrant in a sprint of 6 furlongs that hasn't finished in the money in a short distance event lately. Ran her best rating last time around the track, but the 'off conditions' may have had something to do with it. BOCCABELLA - If you keep selecting these kind of 'bridesmaid' types, you're going to be dissatisfied most every time.
