Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    November 17, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card, and the $1.00 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5. That sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

1-Alwayscuttinschool (5/2)-The Nick Devita trainee wins his share but is probably better on larger ovals. Doesn’t have big gate but Colin Kelly knows how to push the button at the right time. Came off cover to win starting from post 1 at Yonkers back on Oct 6.
2-Themaskedcrusader (3-1)-Per Engblom entry is another without blazing early speed. But Jason Bartlett should have in play when it matters most and might be able to get no worse than a pocket ride here.
5-Hammering Hank (8-1)-This is a wild card price shot. The Burke trainee ships in from Ohio and the 6-year-old might be able to take advantage of some younger foes in a race without a standout. Ron Burke usually puts them in a position to win and Hank did have a 153.4 mark at Yonkers last year.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

5-Christohper Dance N (9/5)-The Jeff Cullipher New Zealand bred banked over $123,000 last year and has won 5 of 8 this season in the US. Now makes its YR debut and does have smaller track experience. The 5-yr-old has sub-1.50 speed. As long as the turns aren't an issue, which the connections must believe, Bartlett should get him across the line first at a small price.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

1-Hemsworth N (9/5)-Left from post 3 in last, got away 3rd versus the same kind and now comes right back. Moved to the front going first over to take a picture in 1.53 flat. Austin Siegelman sticks, he moved at the right time last week and will look for the same type of performance again.
7-Santana Hanover (5/2)-Won 2 back with Bartlett at the controls and then had 2 dull efforts without him in the bike. This time Bartlett takes the lines and meets a field without much gate speed. The wrapper should come off tonight, and could get on the point and not look back.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

2-Inflation Proof (7/5)-The Hunter Oakes pupil has been battling tough 3-year-olds, and better than this at YR. Drops to a spot to shine, and has won 3 of 7 at Yonkers with a 152.1 mark this year. Should be on the point or in the pocket off the car.
3-Sweethomealabama N (9/2)-Comes off a few even efforts but does good work on the Hilltop winning 8 of 26. Jordan Stratton can stay in striking range and then take advantage of a quick pace. Could be the best in the late going at a square price.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    1,2,5/5/1,7/2,3
    Total Bet=$24

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mahoning Valley - Race #2
#4 Candlelight Hours Lots of horses in here with similar pressing styles, and she might be able to sit just in behind the speedier players and watch everything unfold.
#3 City Scene She has finished in front of several of these in her last couple starts, and she should be right in the picture throughout. One of the likely pressers to stick around.
#6 My Girl Kew Not totally sold on her ability to kick home late, but she draws well to force the issue when she wants on the turn, and she was second-best behind City Scene in that common race last month.
Race Summary Candlelight Hours has several lengths to turn on City Scene from their recent meeting, but I think she'll get the right kind of trip today while tracking that one throughout. Trust your gut and take your pick here -- not sure I could confidently toss any of them.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #4
#1 Win Herbie Win Mild worry that there is enough pressing/prompting pace to make things difficult for him from the fence, but he looks like the most committed pace, and maybe he shakes off the pressers and discourages the rest? Should have a go for it.
#2 Excitement His better stuff would do the trick, but I don't trust him a whole lot to bring that today, and the price may not really reflect his legit chances here.
#6 Bold Buckeye Turnback player might get an OK run of things while watching the quicker players sort things out early, and he's a logical play if you think this one becomes a staggerfest late.
Race Summary Win Herbie Win has to go from the fence, but I'm hoping that committed speed will be enough to make the rest of the forward players hustle to keep up. Two deep with the complementary styles here with Bold Buckeye on top, too.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#8 Mali Bali Think she's quick enough to keep an eye on the next one, and she earned this chance against a tougher crew with some pretty sharp recent form against open claimers.
#7 Absolutemiracle She looks like the one to beat with some honest form and the right style to sit close and outfinish these. Wouldn't argue too hard with you.
#5 Big Ginger She's another who makes enough sense in a spot without a ton of super-serious early burn. Might be able to run these off.
Race Summary Mali Bali looks in line for a great tracking trip, and she has always been pretty honest over the local footing. Lots to like.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #1
#8 TUSH PUSH (2-1) Duplicate of MSW sprint in strong field two back is enough to beat these.
#1 WANTING ATTENTION (8-1) Sheds 15 pounds, should get pace to run at with alert break from rail.
#5 SAMANTHA’S CAPO (5-1) Slow series of workouts for high-percentage Pino barn, watch odds.
Race Summary TUSH PUSH may never have a better chance to win in this $15,000 maiden claimer at 6F. She raced close to the pace in a MSW sprint at this distance two back, but couldn’t keep up with an odds-on, first-out winner and the 5-2 second favorite who came back to win. She cuts back off a useful one-mile try after two months away. Make a flat win wager on today’s Best Bet and play an 8/1,5/ALL trifecta.
        Parx - Race #3
#5 COBBLE ROAD (5-1) Took aim at pressured leader for stretch drive but ran second in same spot.
#7 RACKATAPTAP (7-2) Five-time winner at distance will be running late at proven level.
#1 IT’S GAME TIME (5-2) Classy 9yo buried lesser, runs for Pennington, seeks 21st victory.
Race Summary COBBLE ROAD saved ground, appeared to have the winning favorite measured with a 4-wide bid at the top of the stretch, but settled for second best. He stretched out in distance on short rest, has tactical speed and gets in light-weighted again. Bet to win and place and play a 1-5-7 exacta box.
        Parx - Race #4
#1 MAVILUS (6-1) Loomed boldly from post 10, flattened out at 7F, lures Sanchez on class drop.
#2 ALWAYS LAUGHING (3-1) Plays to a steady beat, travels well, didn’t draw into Laurel ‘starter.’
#3 RACEY RUBY (6-1) Good Parx record, dull in last pair, can make good use of her speed in here.
Race Summary MAVILUS ranged up on the 15-1 leader on the turn but faded in the final sixteenth of a higher-tagged 7F race. He moves from post 10 to the rail and gets class relief, but he picks up 7 pounds at a distance which he is 21/3-4-6. Bet to win and place and play a 1-2-3 exacta box.

Race 2 - Maiden Special Weight - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $17000 Class Rating: 48

              RECOMMENDED CHOICES

              # 4 ALL ROADS TO DENIS 3/1
              # 8 THE GROOM'S JUL 4/1
I've got to go with DOOM LOOP. Well above average win clip at this distance/surface. With a formidable 53 Equibase speed fig last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this competition. ALL ROADS TO DENIS - Ought to be considered a contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. Has respectable front speed and will most likely fare strongly against this field. THE GROOM'S JUL - Will likely be one of the front-runners of the group going into the halfway point of the race.

                Turf Paradise - Race #7 - Post: 4:11pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,500 Class Rating: 51

                Rating:

                #10 TOP REVIEW (ML=4/1)
                #6 BIZZY LIZZY (ML=5/1)
                #8 ITSGRANDSALAMITIME (ML=10/1)

TOP REVIEW - Just missed hitting the board on Sep 26th at Prairie Meadows. With decent M/L odds right here in this race, she has my interest. This horse earns a lot of cash per start. I believe she can add to the lifetime earnings right here. Filly will add blinkers to the equipment package today. That often leads to an improved performance. BIZZY LIZZY - Racing at a similar level as last race on October 11th at Century Downs. I think Hone has found a good spot for her, and I like her chances in this field. This speedball should benefit from this race's shorter trip. Finished fourth at Century Downs last out. Was close at the end and at odds of 5/1 right here, she looks like a possible contender. ITSGRANDSALAMITIME - Silva-Martinez seems to have this filly primed for a big effort. Her workout pattern is outstanding. Don't throw this thoroughbred out due to her last contest at Grants Pass where she finished fifth on a sloppy track. Should improve this time around. Silva-Martinez gets a break on this mount carrying 8 pounds less than last out. Its possible this could make the difference right here in this race.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #9 LIBERTY CAP (ML=3/1), #5 BRASCIA'S ART (ML=6/1), #2 MAJESTIC VIBES (ML=8/1),

LIBERTY CAP - This filly likely won't be on the money at the finish line. BRASCIA'S ART - Don't think this horse is worth 6/1 in this race. MAJESTIC VIBES - Today's contest is 5 furlongs. Hasn't hit the board in a short distance affair in the last two months. Not the best of omens.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #10 TOP REVIEW is the play if we get odds of 4/1 or better

                  #5 COALVILLE (ML=3/1)
                  #6 ADDYSON'S DREAM (ML=15/1)

COALVILLE - The recent figure of 69 is the best last race speed rating in the field. He has the topmost earnings per start (EPS). Take a long look at this horse. ADDYSON'S DREAM - After the event aboard this horse on Oct 28th, the jockey is going to 'know' the gelding much better.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #4 AU SOME WARRIOR (ML=2/1), #2 WE MISS NEIL (ML=7/2), #1 JACKSON'S LEGACY (ML=5/1),

AU SOME WARRIOR - Hasn't been close to winning at all of late. WE MISS NEIL - Not easy to bet on any runner in a short distance clash if he hasn't finished in the money in a sprint in the last 60 days. Difficult to keep chasing this sort of 'bridesmaid' horse. JACKSON'S LEGACY - This horse hasn't shown very much in the last two races.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #5 COALVILLE is going to be the play if we are getting 6/5 or better

MISS C BANKER looks to be the bet in here. She ought to be carefully examined given the competitive speed figures. Will most likely come out solid - I have liked the way this filly has moved quickly to the lead recently. Breed has this filly racing well and is a very strong pick based on the very good Equibase Speed Figures posted in sprint races recently. SUGAR RIDE - Her earnings per start in dirt sprint races alone makes you take a look at her. This filly has posted some nice finishes in her last few tries. ALLEY'S SONG - Reliable average Equibase Speed Figures in dirt sprint races make this pony a solid contender. Is hard not to look at based on speed figs which have been quite good - 53 avg - of late.
