Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    November 24, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Yonkers Raceway has a 12-race card featuring action from the MGM Grand Prix Pacing Series. There is a $10,459 carryover in the $1 Pick 5 that begins in Race 5. So, that sequence will have a $25,000 guaranteed pool tonight. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 9, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Miki Shan (3-1) N-1-Miki Shan 3-1-Hasn’t raced since 10-12 and was scratched sick here on 10-28. Put in a nice qualifier on 11-17. Raced from the back leaving from post 6 and stormed home in 54.3. Finished a close 5th against a tough field. Could wire this crew if fires hot off the bench.
2-El Rey (5-1)-The 5-year-old has a 151.3 mark here last year and usually only races on the Hilltop on special occasions. Bartlett will have the Andrew Harris pupil forwardly placed and with the inside draw could put up a win in the first leg of the Grand prix series.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

1-Vicious (5-1)-The Joe B entry is best, as in only wins if on the engine. That seems to be the case, and Brent Holland will have the pedal down and take control. If left alone, this pilot could steal a quarter and then it has a chance to knock-off the one below.
4-Christopher Dance N (6/5)-The Cullipher 5-year-old exploded home with a 54.2 back half to draw off by over 4 lengths in last. Faces the same kind tonight and should be another tiny price. Jason Bartlett has options, and speed at his disposable, this is a must use at a tiny price.

    Race 11 (10:05 PM EDT)

1-Hammering Hank (5/2)-The Burke trainee came a good 2nd at 8-1 last time. That was the 1st start in town since shipping back from The Meadows. There could be others that leave but when the dust settles Yannick Gingras should be no worse than in the pocket. Looks like a main player in a race without a standout.
3-Just Enuff Stuff (9/2)-Makes the 1st start for trainer Mike Forte barn and that barn posts 18% winners after a claim. Won 2 and 3 back and that streak ended last week with a 7-hole draw. Beaten chalk could make amends if George Brennan does a good job of timing the gate. Should have a big chance of getting a top of the stack trip, just like the one above.

    Race 12 (10:25 PM EDT)

3-Rockin N Talkin (7/2)-Back in October while in the Stratton barn, the veteran b1,4/eat the $25k claimers twice and the $30k claimers. Then was claimed by Deb Daguet and has raced against the $40 claimers in the last 2 starts and recent form has looked dull. Gets some needed class relief and now faces a beatable group of $30k claimers.
4-Walkinshaw N (2-1)-The 13-year-old doesn't bring his fastball out every race, but when it leaves from the inside it usually is in the mix. Has a similar profile as the one above, form has tailed off and now gets class relief. But the Hudson trainee has an advantage over others, it gets a new set of hands as Bartlett is at the controls. There is some early speed inside and the race could set up for a closer.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    1,2/1,4/1,3/3,4
    Total Bet=$32

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Del Mar - Race #1
#9 Uecker Guessing he's going to hit hard in the debut run, as he draws well for a likely forward trip with some fairly snappy works along the way. He's not meeting the deepest bunch here, either.
#4 The Max Factor Think he's another potentially interesting fresh face here, so get a look at him on the tote and track ahead of this, too.
#1 Eye of the Smiley His best lifetime race came in the debut run when he went short over this turf course, and getting back to something like that might be enough to get the job done here. One of the ones.
Race Summary Not all that impressed with those who have raced on paper, and Uecker and The Max Factor both seem potentially live enough to make some noise. Check them out, and keep Eye of the Smiley as the experienced option.
      Del Mar - Race #7
#5 Little Hidden Port Wonder if there might be something more here in the third start off the break, as she got her head handed to her in the North American debut in that Grade I run, and then she didn't show much on the turf last out. Low-confidence play at what should be an OK price.
#9 Starts Now Her better form fits well in here, and she has a little bit of positional pace that should leave her in a good spot into the first turn. Think she could get outkicked late, but she should be in the right place close to home.
#2 Angelic Appeal She kicked on OK when racing off the long layoff last time out, and there is some obvious room to step in the right direction while going second off that two-year break.
Race Summary Little Hidden Port hasn't dropped any good hints yet, but I wonder if her recent campaign has kept her from showing her best. Maybe better today?
      Del Mar - Race #9
#1 The Mizen Queen Versatile type should be in a good spot throughout from the rail draw, and she ran a decent race when trying winners for the first time last out. One of the ones at a midrange price?
#4 Ambaya She finished in front of the top choice when they met last time out, and she still hasn't run a bad one through four starts. Price might get a bit unappealing?
#5 Motet I really think her better stuff isn't too far off the lower rungs of this race, and she seems likely to find a more tactical trip today than she did last out.
Race Summary The Mizen Queen should get a really good go from the fence, and I'm hoping Ambaya will command a lot of cash to keep the price playable on the top call.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Turf Paradise - Race #4
#2 STANDARD OF PROOF (9-2) Solid numbers in ‘key’ route races out of town, decent works over track.
#4 CANCUN NATIVE (5-2) Led throughout at 7-1/2F on turf in first start for 26-percent ‘repeat’ barn.
#3 NO ORDINARY TIGER (7-2) Has speed, can use it well, just missed in similar spot at Emerald Downs.
Race Summary STANDARD OF PROOF, a lightly-raced 5-year-old, resumes his nationwide tour with his first visit to Turf Paradise. He was no factor in three productive one-mile races this year, but his average 58 Beyer stacks up well against six rivals who are a combined 6-for-128. Bet to win and place and play 2-3 and 2-4 exactas.
        Turf Paradise - Race #6
#6 HAPPY DOES (4-1) Soon-to-be $200K earner holds tactical advantage at proven distance.
#8 RIGHT HAND RYDER (4-1) Won back-to-back routes at Emerald, perfectly spotted on class drop.
#7 KEEP IT COMING (5-1) Rallied for 8/1-1-3 record in last eight starts at Hastings Park.
Race Summary HAPPY DOES is 4-for-7 at the distance and he can control the pace off a three-month layoff. He finished in the money in five one-mile races at Santa Anita to start the year but still seeks his first victory in 2025. Bet to win and place and play a 6-7-8 exacta box.
        Turf Paradise - Race #7
#4 EVANS VALLEY GIRL (6-1) Took money, faded in lane, drops for 21-percent maiden claiming barn.
#7 CHICA TIGRE (5-2) In striking range in four higher-tagged starts out of town.
#1 TRAIN STATION (4-1) Early trouble lines at Del Mar but fired 3F bullet workout in :34.4 locally.
Race Summary EVANS VALLEY GIRL worked forwardly for her well-bet debut but gave way chasing a sharp, front-end winner for a $30,000 tag. Expect her to show more speed in this spot and carry it farther at a tempting price. Bet to win and place and play a 4/1,3,7/ALL trifecta.

              Parx Racing - Race #1 - Post: 12:05pm - Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $23,000 Class Rating: 66

              Rating:

              #4 PURPLE LU LU (ML=7/2)

PURPLE LU LU - After the event aboard this horse on Oct 27th, the jockey is going to know the filly much better. This filly is rounding her way back into shape. Should run well today. This filly is in good form, having run a strong race on October 27th, finishing first. This equine is number one in (EPS) earnings per start. She looks good in today's race.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #2 FROSTED LACE (ML=5/2), #7 IT'S A SHORE THING (ML=3/1), #5 LAUGH LIKE LUCY (ML=8/1),

FROSTED LACE - This animal hasn't been close in either of her last couple of races. IT'S A SHORE THING - No picnic to bet on this questionable contender in today's event. Make her show you something in a short distance event before you invest in her in a race of 7 furlongs. This thoroughbred just hasn't looked sharp lately. When looking at today's class rating, she will have to register a much better speed fig than last time out to be competitive in this dirt sprint. LAUGH LIKE LUCY - This filly hasn't had any positive efforts in sprint races in the last sixty days. Will be tough for this horse to beat this bunch off of that last speed fig. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure close to today's class figure, so put her on the vulnerable competitors list.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - PURPLE LU LU - Analysis shows this filly's last speed number of 66 is as good as any. Don't overlook this filly in your wagering.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #4 PURPLE LU LU to win at post-time odds of 1/1 or better

I've got to go with STILETTOS. Is worth considering and may be a wager - strong speed figures (98 average) at today's distance and surface recently. Look for a very good pace improvement from this racer who enters now going off Lasix today. Recently Ortiz has been sizzling which may give the edge to this filly. VELVET DEVIL - Has to be considered a solid contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. Has longshot potential and could score at high odds. TALIESIN - This filly has a good win percentage in dirt sprint races.

                  # 3 RESOLVE 12/1
I think THEBESTISYETTOBE (IRE) is a decent choice. Has performed solidly recently in route races, posting a nifty 98 avg speed figure. I like the rider on this mare - competitive chance to win the contest. Her 96 average has this mare with among the strongest speed figures in this competition. SWEET DELTA DAWN - Have to take a chance on this filly with the solid earnings per start in turf route races. Always good to invest in a handler with this kind of strong win percentage - 15 percent - at this distance & surface. RESOLVE - Could provide positive dividends based on very strong recent speed figures with an average of 95. The Equibase Speed Figure of 101 from her latest affair looks respectable in here.

                    #1 AMERICAN RANGER BB (ML=8/1)
                    #8 ATTILA'S LAST CALL (ML=10/1)
                    #4 SHORT ROUND BOUND (ML=8/1)

AMERICAN RANGER BB - Gelding shipped to this track and won; now goes for back-to-back wins. You have to be keen on that last race fig, 89, which is the top latest race figure of this field. Have to make this gelding a solid contender; he comes off a solid race on November 4th. ATTILA'S LAST CALL - This gelding is back in a race very quick. This is a great angle - Sprinters that come back in less than 10 days after a race. A good sign of a sharp and ready racehorse. I like to bet on this handicapping theory, a horse coming back off a strong effort within the last 30 days. This gelding should be at the fitness peak, this far into his form cycle. Getting a weight break of 7 pounds from last race at Zia Park on November 16th. Could make the difference in today's race. SHORT ROUND BOUND - This horse could be tough today, especially since Juarez rode last time out and now should be plenty familiar with this one. Lambert brings this gelding back into a race rather than a workout. He knows his gelding is on top of his game. Lambert brings him back again. I propose you stick with this hot gelding. He must like the track here. Shipped in to finish first on Nov 17th and he looks tough once again.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #6 HOLY HANK (ML=8/5), #5 MOJICA (ML=9/2), #7 B BOLD CHARLIE (ML=8/1),

HOLY HANK - Not easy to play this racer this time. Make him show you something in a sprint event before you wager on him in a race of 6 1/2 furlongs. Will be tough for this entrant to beat this bunch off of that last speed figure. Unlikely to improve enough to run a figure close to today's Equibase class figure, so put him on the likely underpriced equines list. MOJICA - Today's event is 6 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a sprint race in the last couple months. Not the best of omens. B BOLD CHARLIE - In the last affair this questionable contender finished sixth. Doesn't look promising for his chances this time.

                          # 9 JD CAMDEN GB 2/1
The selection for this race is SPARROW HANOVER. He's competing in good form, recording sharp TrackMaster Speed Ratings. An excellent selection. It's somewhat dicey to consider based only on class, but this gelding has among the finest class numbers of the group of animals. You have to lean toward a horse that wins regularly, very high win rate. MY FRIEND MEL - This gelding has been squaring off versus some of the most competitive company in this pack of late. Many race players will recognize the exemplary speed figure in the last outing. Stacks up against any horse in this race. JD CAMDEN GB - Could be considered in this contest if only for the very nice TrackMaster speed fig earned in the most recent competition. Driver/conditioner are no strangers to the winners circle and should have this horse breaking away from the field of starters.

TH MONICA appears to be our best wagering option in this contest. Her 74 average has this filly among the top speed figs in this event. Could quite possibly take this pack given the 75 speed fig recorded in her most recent race. Jamieson has been winning with a flourish this last month, winning at a nice 21 percent. VALIDUS - When the starter calls, nice horses starting out of the 5 post have more wins than you would expect. Have to support a solid standardbred coming out of the Woodbine Mohawk Park 5 post. The return on investment is superb. CHIC CHOC ROSE - This harness racer could get the win here beginning from the Woodbine Mohawk Park 6 post. The panel of smart guys saw this horse's name on a restaurant menu. Call it our coffee house play, worth a small play.
