    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Mahoning Valley - Race #7
#8 Shukran He's probably way too cheap for these, and he has some big tables to turn out of his two- and three-back races, but I liked his graduation run a little bit last out and wonder if he might find a sweet kind of spying run. Reach should be a price.
#2 Distant Galaxy He found the locals to his liking last out with an easy score after battling in the early parts, and he seems capable of sharing here if he can work out a trip from down here.
#7 Lil Red Beaudette He may be capable of sticking around a bit better at a price today after chasing and quitting last time out. His first two races were decent enough to maybe give him a pass.
Race Summary Shukran has slowly moved forward a small bit in the last two runs, and he could find the right kind of trip to benefit if some of the pace starts to come back.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#3 Megastar He has been one-paced in a couple of claiming starts in Kentucky, but I think he might like a more leisurely route tempo while getting around two turns and trying a local crew for the first time. Wonder if he might drill these.
#1 Star Quality Wouldn't argue with having him on some backup tickets while rising in decent form, as a couple of those dull races on his page come with at least mild excuses.
#9 Task Force I think he's supposed to be competitive here after the two solid Charles Town races, and I'm mostly just curious what kind of price he's going to offer here. Not out of the question, but I'm not that enthusiastic.
Race Summary Megastar should find a good spot right up near the top while getting around two turns, and I like that he's protected in allowance company off the claim while moving into a circuit where that recent form might fit.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #9
#3 Motown Story She really flattened out late in the debut run, but I'm guessing she'll move forward and stick around better with that race under her belt. Perfect press/spy trip while watching the two drawn just inside. Leaning on her.
#2 Tiz Magnificent She has just gone a touch flat late in all of her starts, so I worry that she could be vulnerable to getting picked up late. Should be in the right spot off the turn.
#10 Star Ella Enough to like here with the ability to get past horses that also drew me to the top choice. Look for her late.
Race Summary Motown Story has some reasonable upside here with the debut run under her belt, and she might find herself in a perfect first-over kind of spot.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Parx - Race #1
#8 VICTOR’S DREAM (6-1) Can make maximum use of his speed on the stretch out, good value play.
#3 CARRY GRANT (2-1) Chased repeater two back, middle move into slow pace in latest, one to beat.
#2 FAST N SWEET (7-2) Third start of improved cycle for these connections.
Race Summary VICTOR’S DREAM should lead for as far as he goes for a 17-percent sprint-to-route barn. He faltered behind the front-end winning favorite last out at this level, but the race timed 1-2/5 seconds faster than a $25,000 maiden claimer on the same card. Bet to win and place and play 8-2, 8-3 and 3-8 exactas.
      Parx - Race #2
#5 GREYHOUND STATION (10-1) Expect her to be sent, can factor on best at double-digit odds.
#2 WARRIOR’S MISS (3-1) Lightly-raced but productive 5yo ships in for hot Penn National barn.
#6 SOFSTER (7-2) Finished in the money in all four sprints under these conditions.
Race Summary GREYHOUND STATION ran her best races when she made the lead as she could do in this spot and she was awarded first-place money when second to Don’t Listen, who won a $16,000 starter allowance next out. She faltered in both starts for this barn but the races came one week apart. She’s worth a win and place bet at a big price.
      Parx - Race #6
#7 ELOQUIST (7-2) Classy 6-year-old gets livelier pace to rally into and enhance gaudy Parx resume.
#3 RECKER POINT (9-5) Parx newcomer averaged 82 Beyer in last eight dirt routes, spanning four tracks.
#2 TIME TO CRUISE (3-1) In good form cycle, moves outside in, gets in light-weighted.
Race Summary This $25,000 claiming route is for non-winners of a race in the last three months. ELOQUIST is the only entrant to win in the last six months, conquering this distance with a late burst off the claim. He ‘moved wide’ but was no factor in a slow-paced follow-up, but he gets more pace to run at today as he nears a quarter million in Parx earnings. Bet to win and place and play 2-3, 2-7 and 3-2 exactas.

Race 2 - Maiden Claiming - 8.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $8000 Class Rating: 60

            RECOMMENDED CHOICES

            # 12 BOURBON BLANKET 8/1
            # 9 THIS IS GLORIA 7/2
I back STARSHIP LEGACY here. Has been running strongly and has among the best speed in the race for today's distance. Will probably be one of the early speedsters of the bunch going into the midpoint of the race. Appears to have a quite good class edge based on the recent company kept. THIS IS GLORIA - Will most likely go to the lead and could never look back.

              # 6 NIGHT TIZZY 15/1
KISSES FOR COOPER is the strongest wager in this race. This horse could surprise this lot at a nice price. PERFECT DEAL - Recorded a strong speed rating in the latest race. Can run another good one in this race. Overall, has one of the top earnings per start in dirt sprint races in this field of horses. NIGHT TIZZY - Might go off at a big price and has some positive attributes going for her.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #4 - Post: 1:39pm - Allowance - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $33,700 Class Rating: 57

                Rating:

                #3 SECRET VALENTINE (ML=8/1)
                #1 VESPER MARTINI (ML=5/2)
                #4 LADY LOVES MONEY (ML=10/1)

SECRET VALENTINE - Hamm drops her down to this class. You don't need too much more handicapping knowledge to figure that this horse is in a good spot at this level. VESPER MARTINI - That 57 fig this filly garnered in her last race tells me she's a big time player this time around. Is ranked uppermost in earnings per race. A solid effort today can add to the lifetime earnings. LADY LOVES MONEY - Atop this thoroughbred on October 23rd and Rivera is right back in the irons this race. Nice return on investment for this jockey and conditioner tandem. She must like the track here. She just won over the track after shipping in.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #2 DENIABLE (ML=8/5), #6 JILLY RUNS DEEP (ML=9/2), #5 SIOFRA (ML=6/1),

DENIABLE - Usually I need a sprinter to have some recent success in short distance affairs in order to bet on her. This favorite probably needs at least one race to get back into shape. Pass on her today. JILLY RUNS DEEP - A strong horse that's been running well, but she's been off the track in the mornings recently. Poor early position on November 6th for me to wager on at the probable odds in today's sprint race. Improbable that the fig she registered on Nov 6th will hold up in this affair. SIOFRA - Finished third in her most recent race with a most unsatisfactory speed fig. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this field.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #3 SECRET VALENTINE to win if you can get odds of 7/2 or more

                  Zia Park - Race #3 - Post: 12:59pm - Allowance - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $50,000 Class Rating: 102

                  Rating:

                  #1 AXTON (ML=9/5)
                  #3 MAJOR TOM (ML=10/1)

AXTON - I like when a horse wins after shipping in from elsewhere. It shows that they really like the track here. I'll take this gelding to win again. Jockey and conditioner do well when they join forces. Vazquez and Cappellucci have been consistent together. Have to make this gelding a contender; he comes off a good effort on Nov 10th. I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run his best in the 3rd or 4th start back. Earnings per start is something that I feel can be a vital selection factor. This horse is ranked number 1 in this group. MAJOR TOM - This gelding has higher odds on the morning line than the other entrant from the stable of Evans. Better beware of this angle. Horse made up some ground down the lane last time out on Nov 14th at Del Mar. That contest is better than it looked.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #6 STONEHENGE (ML=3/1), #4 CHAPERONE (ML=7/2), #2 CROCKETT (ML=4/1),

STONEHENGE - Not easy to play this mount this time out. Make him show you something in a sprint contest before you invest in him in a race of 6 furlongs. CHAPERONE - This colt showed little last time out. CROCKETT - This animal hasn't been in the money in either of his last two efforts.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - AXTON - Coming off his last race with the top speed figure of 97 at Zia Park. He is the gelding to beat today.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #1 AXTON is the play if we get odds of 7/5 or better

                      # 8 YOUTHFUL KEMP 6/1
Hey, listen up! KETEL ONE UP is the knowledgeable play if you like to win. The 83 avg class number may give this gelding a distinct edge in the bunch. MISS CLEMENTINE - When the trainer France puts Miller up for the drive good things happen. All you need to do is look at the 24 win percent. The knowledge group happens to know that when you put Miller and France together really good results frequently occur. YOUTHFUL KEMP - Considered a solid bet based solely on her high score statistic. Miller knows this entrant well. Stellar in the money history when starting with one another.

Feel pretty confident putting some green stuff down on VEL TRUST IN TIME. The consortium always likes a proven performer. This horse's high winning percentage is proof of that. When the starter calls, horses starting out of the 4 post have more wins than the expected average. Dibenedetto knows this race horse well. Great in the money record when in the sulky. HURRIKANE JONNYBOY - This horse has a nose for the wire, just look at his better than average win pct. Gelding and trainer go together like peaches and cream. They finish in the money 60 percent of their races. JM'S DELIGHT - Merton will be looking to take the whole enchilada in this race, has been blazing hot these days. Win statistic this last month is a sparkling 32. Layoff, schmayoff, this gelding's trainer races starters back ready to go.
