Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    December 1, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card. The $1 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Captain Albano (2-1)-Looked sharp in Leg 1 and now will faceoff with Coaches Corner. The Capt might be a bit more versatile, could win without leading every step of the way. That could be the plan here.
5-Coaches Corner (7/5)-The Per Engblom trainee looked as fresh as possible in Leg 1 in the 24th start of the season. Got on the engine and made every call a winning drawing off by over 6 lengths. Will be a better price than 1/5 here and Bartlett will have his foot through the floorboard when the wings fold once again. Put in a 151.2 mile all on its own in Leg 1 and might have to better that performance to double up.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

1-Always Cuttin School (5/2)-The issue for the Nick Devita trainee is a lack of big gate speed. That makes things more difficult even leaving from the rail. Using anyway as Colin Kelly should have the 4-year-old in play before the last turn.
4-Warrior For Truth (9/2)-Was hung the mile last time against the straight $30k claimers. Now faces the 3-6-year-old $30k claimers and George Brennan gets the call. Going to use and will fade #2-Two Faced the 9/5 choice. If Brennan does a good job of timing the gate he lands on top or in the 2 hole, and if so will be tough to beat.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Dancin Sancho (2-1)-This will be the 5th straight race leaving from post 1 and has started on the rail in 6 of the last 7. Beat 3 from this field last week by going gate to wire and need to use again in a contentious affair.
2-Himself N (7/2)-My thinking is Brennan leaves like a shot, has the best gate speed of all and lands on the point. Assuming that happens without emptying the tank, the veteran has a good chance of winning.
4-Thenu Came Along A (7/2)-Some won’t play the Scott Blackler pupil in its first US start. But this movie has been on before and the Aussi Bred could make its debut a winning one. Can’t let the 5-yr-ld bust up the ticket after getting a choice post draw, plus when Blackler and Bartlett team up they post 45% winners.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

4-Pefect Promises (2-1)-Shipped in from PcD and probably accomplished what the connections wanted even with a 5th place finish. Started from post 8, raced from the back and did pace the 2nd half in 54.4. Now Bartlett takes the lines and should be go-time against a beatable field.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    2,5/1,4/1,2,4/4
    Total Bet=$24

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mahoning Valley - Race #2
#1 Now Teddy He came forward nicely when getting in an Ohio crew last time out, and I'm hoping the price stays playable here with the presence of a couple capable new players.
#2 Mitola Forward player has not been able to stay yet, but he has been meeting some better groups in those starts and might find a cozier spot today.
#5 Top Frost He and the guy just inside of him both seem playable enough -- looks like there are about three or four of them for whom you can make a pretty solid case, so take your pick and trust your gut.
Race Summary Fun race here -- Now Teddy might get slightly overlooked in this one with a few other similar players lined up.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #7
#3 Justhappytobehere Honest finisher meets an open group on a main track he has never tried, but I like how reliable he has been at a few different trips. Think he can run to this group.
#8 Silence His better stuff would be good enough here, and he's getting out of some Ohio stakes spots that might stack up OK with this crew. Reliable form counts for something here.
#2 Ekati's Way There are a couple of built-in excuses for some of the dull runs on the page, and he's another who wouldn't be a shock -- I just don't personally have a ton of enthusiasm for him.
Race Summary Justhappytobehere looks interesting enough with some decent Indiana form to his name, and his versatility in running style is a benefit, too.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#7 Queenofthebuckeye Think a handful of them want to get a similar trip up near the top, and this one is tactical enough to stay in touch while rating off it as the early players sort things out. Perfect spy and finish trip.
#1 Work'n On a Buzz She always seems to take a bit too much cash, and I worry a similar story will play out today. That said, her better stuff makes her one of the ones. Just think you can do better on the board.
#9 Mizzen the Point She should get a pretty nice run of things from the outside draw while tracking the splits similar to the top choice. In the mix.
Race Summary Queenofthebuckeye should get the run of the race behind a few speedier players, and that race flow might be enough to get her over the top for the first time in a while.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Turf Paradise - Race #3
#6 STRENGTH OF AUTISM (5-2) Wins the close ones at Turf Paradise, benefits from return trip.
#1 GODSEND (2-1) Romped at Albuquerque in race that produced runaway winner at this level.
#7 BUCK OWENS (7-2) Solid numbers at Turf Paradise in the spring, second to 3-to-5 fave at the fair.
Race Summary STRENGTH OF AUTISM is 4-for-9 at Turf Paradise with two wins by a nose, one by a head and one by a neck – all for a higher claiming price. He returned from Canterbury Park and rallied for third behind the two favorites. Bet to win and place and play 6-1 and 6-7 exactas.
        Turf Paradise - Race #6
#8 TRAVELIN WITCH (8-1) Solid 3yo season, drops in claiming price, should sit ideal stalking trip.
#3 GREASE MISSLE (6-1) Speed will be tested in three-peat bid, stands 3-for-6 at this distance.
#11 RAVEN’S QUEST (4-1) Piling up the checks, post 11 the concern at proven distance.
Race Summary TRAVELIN WITCH, favored in 3 of her last 4 starts at Canterbury Park, started her year with a win here. Her last five races for a higher claiming price produced six next-out winners with an average 63 Beyer. She could track a lively pace and get the jump on the closers. Bet to win and place and play 8-3 and 8-11 exactas.
        Turf Paradise - Race #8
#8 SUNGLASSES (8-1) Failed at odds on, steps up in class, can make good use of her speed.
#1 CHAMAVILLE (4-1) Proven miler seeks third straight win on cutback to 7-1/2F, needs some pace flow.
#2 GREATFUL ATTITUDE (5-1) First or second in 12 of 26 starts, makes Turf Paradise and turf debut.
Race Summary SUNGLASSES ran her best races on the Turf Paradise lawn in the Spring, but she blew a clear lead as the odds-on favorite in her return from a five-month layoff. There’s not a lot of speed in here, so give her the nod for a win and place bet at an inflated price.

              Turf Paradise - Race #5 - Post: 3:11pm - Optional Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $17,500 Class Rating: 92

              Rating:

              #7 MY CAIRO KID (ML=4/1)
              #3 SEAHORSE STAMPEDE (ML=7/2)

MY CAIRO KID - Running 1 mile on the turf, you've have to look at horse's turf figures. This animal has the tops in the bunch. This gelding's last fig recorded on April 30th is tops in last race Equibase speed figures. SEAHORSE STAMPEDE - Faced tougher in the last race at Canterbury Park. Based on class ratings, this is a weaker bunch, so I will put this thoroughbred on my list of strong contenders. Ran a less than stellar race at Canterbury Park last race out. Racing without the slop puts this gelding at the top of my contenders list.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #4 MCCLUSKY (ML=5/2), #6 BAIE LONGUE (ML=9/2), #1 THIRSTY VISION (ML=5/1),

MCCLUSKY - Awfully hard to wager on this racer when he hasn't been showing any signs of readiness lately. BAIE LONGUE - This mount likes to land in the top three, but doesn't usually win. Forget the top spot. You can't keep making justifications for a racer that just doesn't win. Don't play him. THIRSTY VISION - Hasn't been getting close at all of late.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #7 MY CAIRO KID to win. Have to have odds of at least 3/2 or better though
              EXACTA WAGERS: Box [3,7]

                # 10 EL KOZAN 5/2
                # 11 TAPINTOYOURBEER 30/1
MY BALBOA looks respectable to best this field. Has longshot potential and could prove victorious at high odds. Earning some nice money in dirt sprint races. Is hard not to examine given the company run in lately. EL KOZAN - Always seems to be right there on the wire. Should be given a chance based on the respectable speed fig put up in the last contest.

                  Zia Park - Race #4 - Post: 1:26pm - Allowance - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $50,000 Class Rating: 80

                  Rating:

                  #5 LUCKY VEGAS (ML=8/1)
                  #7 JILLY'S WEST (ML=6/1)
                  #3 R R BOUGIE (ML=8/5)
                  #4 NATIVE CHARMER (ML=3/1)

LUCKY VEGAS - This mare is most likely the strongest closer in the field. This horse coming off a solid try in the last thirty days is a strong challenger in my book. Mare is a few starts into a return to racing here. Should give a big race today. Came home fast last time out at Zia Park. That type of move bodes well for her chances in this event. JILLY'S WEST - This filly is in top form right now. Finished third in the last race and comes back quickly. Generally accepted angle - 3rd or 4th start after a vacation generally leads to a big effort. Should run big today. R R BOUGIE - A thoroughbred coming back this quickly after a good race is a good sign. The 80 latest race speed rating looks strong in black and white. NATIVE CHARMER - Have to make this filly a serious competitor; she comes off a sharp race on Nov 3rd. Nice return on investment for this jockey and handler tandem. Fincher must have known this filly would run well at this track. Won her last race here on Nov 3rd and now goes for back-to-back wins. The morning line odds on this filly are higher than those of the other entrant from the shedrow of trainer Fincher. Often the longer-priced part of a 'split' entry wins.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 TIZ THE SPIRIT (ML=5/2),

TIZ THE SPIRIT - Finished fourth in her most recent performance with a quite unimpressive speed rating. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #5 LUCKY VEGAS to win. Have to have odds of at least 4/1 or better though

BROTHER TONY has a very strong shot to take this race. Has to be considered versus this group of horses in this race displaying respectable numbers as of late and an average speed rating of 81 under similar conditions. Reyes has very strong numbers that point to this gelding to be a strong contender. He has been moving quite well recently while recording sharp Speed Figures. PRINCE PRANCEALOT - Should expect a much better performance with the drop. This gelding has to be considered just off the earnings per start in dirt sprint races alone.
