      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mahoning Valley - Race #5
#8 Sammy's Halo He has been in good form and ran on well last out even after getting taken out of his better style with a tough break. Perfect first-over trip today.
#9 Dream Boy He's a reasonable alternative who has traded some decisions with the top choice, and he's got a pretty honest finishing kick that gives him a chance to reel that one in late.
#12 Dr Spirito He didn't have an easy early go in the debut run and folded up pretty quickly, but he took some cash that day at 5/2 against 10 others and may be meant for a bit better today?
Race Summary Sammy's Halo and Dream Boy look like the right pair in here, but I think Sammy can turn the tables today with a cleaner break.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #9
#2 Laketown Elly She has honest pace and stretches out today in search of a third straight score, and I think she's the controlling pace against this crew. Hers to land if she can find the trip.
#1 Electric Melody Both of her route tries have been pretty solid, including that score last time out, and I think she should find a cozy spot from this rail draw to settle in just behind the pace. Dangerous right back.
#3 I Belong First She's capable of something better than she showed last time out, and she might find an OK kind of first-over run with this bunch.
Race Summary Laketown Elly and Electric Melody both bring compelling form, but it feels like 'Elly should be up top and may not get reeled in if she handles the added ground.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #10
#2 Hello Evelyn Always a chance this one falls into the trip of a 'finishing' sprinter stretching out, but she's one of the only ones in here to ever kick on in the lane, so I think she might translate her sprint form into a winning one-paced kind of route run.
#4 Ebony's Secret She has had a lot of chances already and has been catching some runaway winners, but she has reliable enough form to think she could plug along to hold an underneath spot again. Better than the last.
#3 Say Saw Fresh face finds a comfy spot to land for the first trip to post, but she will still have to get around two turns at first asking. Check her out ahead of this.
Race Summary Hello Evelyn should be tough here if she can supply an even kind of run going long. Most of these will be quitting on the far turn, and being able to kick on at all might be enough to land this.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Turf Paradise - Race #4
#7 DONNA WYN (4-1) Starts fresh off decent local workout, projects ideal trip at decent price.
#5 SHE’S A ONE OF ONE (5 Drew clear of nine rivals in maiden sprint victory at Santa Anita two back.
#2 SELINUS (3-1) Prairie Meadows form didn’t carry over, remains a threat on the class drop.
Race Summary Hastings Park invader DONNA WYN runs 5F for the first time, but she worked 4F in :48 over the track and will have plenty of pace to rally into. She romped in a five-horse route race two back but failed to repeat as the 1-to-5 favorite in a long sprint last out. Bet to win and place and play 7-2 and 7-5 exactas.
        Turf Paradise - Race #5
#1 SURPRISINGLY PERFECT (5-2) Winning machine couldn’t overcome slooooow pace out of town.
#2 GO CATS (3-1) Proven miler seeks three-peat, tries to enhance Diodoro’s 24-percent ‘repeat’ rate.
#3 FRENCH ONION (6-1) Plays catch-me-if-you-can off romp in five-horse field at Mountaineer Park.
Race Summary SURPRISINGLY PERFECT chased the 1-to-9 favorite around the track through snails-like fractions at Albuquerque. It might be the only way from stopping the classy 11-year-old from winning again under similar race conditions. He seeks her 29th win overall, 20th at one mile and ninth at Turf Paradise while making his 100th career start. Bet to win only and play 1-2 and 1-3 exactas.
        Turf Paradise - Race #8
#2 EVANS VALLEY GIRL (5-1) Took money, faded in lane, drops for 21-percent maiden claiming barn.
#5 SONG OF SONGS (5-1) Barn can get ‘em ready, as steady work tab indicates.
#1 TRAIN STATION (4-1) Early trouble lines at Del Mar but fired 3F bullet workout in :34.4 locally.
Race Summary EVANS VALLEY GIRL worked forwardly for her well-bet debut but gave way chasing a sharp, front-end winner for a $30,000 tag. Expect her to show more speed in this spot and carry it farther at a tempting price. Bet to win and place and play a 2, 5/1, 2, 5,7/ALL trifecta.

Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, December 8, 2025

          by Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway has an 11-race card with the $1.00 Pick 5 rolling in Race 5. That sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

          Race 8 (9:05 PM EST)

2-Spring Inhis Step A (5/2)-Won 2 back off a close-up trip and pulled away down the lane. Last time was left at the gate as Redwood Hanover buzzed a fast opening quarter and the 8-year-old never really got involved leaving from the 5-hole. Will look for a better start and a 2-hole trip behind the choice Huntinthelastdolar could lead to a picture.
4-Huntinthelastdolar (7/5)-This millionaire has won 13 of 20 at YR and Jason Bartlett will leave and should be on top around the 1st turn. The race goes through the Per Engblom trainee who is looking for its 10th win in 28 starts this year.

          Race 9 (9:25 PM EST)

1-Trendy Teen (8-1)-Will look for a price and fade Jason Bartlett on the 7/5 choice #2-Curly James. Team Stratton entry fits with this kind, has been 1st and 2nd eight times each this year, and seems to bring its A-game out when leaving from the inside. Will look for an honest pace with the #2 and #3 likely leaving. Jordan Stratton should be stalking close by and could be the best down the lane.
3-Jumpingjackmac N (5/2)-The 8-year-old has had only 13 starts this year and has hit the board in 10 of those races but has only 1 win. The picture came in the last start on a Good-track versus similar. Left from the rail and didn’t look back and will look for a similar path to success tonight.

          Race 10 (9:45 PM EST)

2-Walkinshaw N (5/2)-Bartlett took over the driving duties last week and the Joe B entry wired the $30k claimers and made it look easier. This won't be as easy, it hasn't proved itself at this level but tonight might be the time. The pedal will be down and could make every call a winning one.
4-Speaker Of Peace (5-1)- Going to fade #5 Music Hall the 9/5 choice and will look for its 3-race win streak to end. Using the Lance Hudson entry, who knows how to dance with this kind and should be a square price. The fractions could be spicy, and Todd McCarthy has good tactical speed to work with. The 5-year-old could stalk and roll by down the lane.

          Race 11 (10:05 PM EST)

2-Themaskedcrusader N (5/2)-The Per Engblom entry has finished 3rd in 3 straight against slightly better. Last time, it raced better than the line looks going the back half in 55.1. Bartlett needs to work the right trip, and this appears to be a beatable field.
5-Panettone Hanover (6-1)-Knows how to win against this kind and doesn't have to lead every step of the way to take a picture. Stratton has options with this post draw, could find a live cover flow and pass the leader down the lane.

          $2 Late Pick 4

          2,4/1,3/2,4/2,5
          Total Bet=$32

                # 5 MY LITTLE LADY 2/1
                # 2 DADDYS NINA 4/1
I've got to go with LOTSA STEEL. Lately Kemper has provided wagerers with a solid winning percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. Could best this field based on the speed figure - 59 - of her last contest. She has put up decent figures under today's conditions and will almost certainly fare well versus this group. MY LITTLE LADY - Earnings per start in dirt sprint races is reliable for this racer. Ought to be carefully examined here on the basis of the figures in the speed section alone. DADDYS NINA - She has put up respectable numbers under today's conditions and should fare well versus this group. Will almost certainly compete strongly in the early speed clash which bodes well with this group of animals.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #1 - Post: 12:15pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,500 Class Rating: 55

                  Rating:

                  #8 GAME MAKER (IRE) (ML=3/1)

GAME MAKER (IRE) - Last time, was entered in a race at Mahoning Valley Race Cour in a race with a class number of 63. Dropping a significant amount in class rating this time puts him in a solid position in this event.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #7 BOZAANO (ML=9/5), #5 BELLA'S CHARM (ML=4/1), #3 OWEN'S CANDY BOY (ML=6/1),

BOZAANO - This favorite may be out of shape without any recent morning drills. This gelding is always in the mix, but just doesn't finish first. Hard to play him on the win end. BELLA'S CHARM - Hard to play any entrant to turn things around if there is no value to taking the chance. This gelding hasn't had any recent good results in sprint contests. No picnic to bet on him in this affair. The rating last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this affair when I look at the class figure of today's event. Mark this horse as a likely underlay. OWEN'S CANDY BOY - Not easy to bet on any horse in a sprint clash if he hasn't hit the board in a sprint in the last two months.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #8 GAME MAKER (IRE) on the nose if you can get odds of 1/1 or more

                    Mountaineer Park - Race #7 - Post: 9:30pm - Allowance - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $18,000 Class Rating: 91

                    Rating:

                    #7 HEY CUE (ML=20/1)
                    #13 HOYLAKE (ML=20/1)
                    #1 AIR SHOW (ML=7/2)
                    #3 HUNTERTOWN (ML=5/2)

HEY CUE - Really have to believe this race horse is going to be on the money at the finish line. HOYLAKE - Really figure this horse is going to be really close at the finish line. AIR SHOW - Rode this entrant on Nov 3rd and Barbaran is back again in the irons today. HUNTERTOWN - I expect this beautiful animal to surprise some fans in today's event.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 MISS JANE PLANAR (ML=5/1), #10 ROYAL CURLIN (ML=6/1), #2 JUNIOR BUG (ML=8/1),

MISS JANE PLANAR - This steed ran a mediocre speed figure last out. She shouldn't run better and will likely get beat in today's race running that rating. ROYAL CURLIN - The lack of drills has to make one concerned despite the nice effort in the last race. JUNIOR BUG - This horse likes to be in the money, but doesn't usually win. Keep out of the top spot.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Play #7 HEY CUE to win if you can get odds of 5/1 or more

                      # 4 ANGEL I'M NOT 7/2
                      # 7 EXTRA CRAFTY 4/1
OLYMPIC WINGS is my choice. Looks solid for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid figures in dirt sprint races as of late. Had one of the most respectable Equibase Speed Figs of this group in her last outing. Overall the Speed Figures of this horse look very good in this race. ANGEL I'M NOT - Should go to the front end and may never look back. Earned a competitive speed figure last time out. EXTRA CRAFTY - Ought to be given a chance based on the competitive speed fig recorded in the last competition.

WATERLOO is the clear stand out bet in the eyes of the panel of smart guys. Has really good speed ratings and very likely has to be thought of for a wager for this one. Good for a win bet just off the outstanding prior class ratings. Have to like this standardbred. If performance in the last competition is any indicator, this standardbred will have a very very good shot in this race. High last race TrackMaster Speed Rating. VIS A VIS BLUECHIP - Seems to have a competitive class advantage based on the horses he has raced against. The consortium will always toss in a nice horse from the 5 hole here at Dover Downs, always worth a look. SENIOR PARTNER - Recorded a 74 speed rating in last race. A duplicate showing here should get the score in this race.

Look no further than CITY OF HOPE as the bet for this one and just look at the nice morning line. Good for a win wager just off the top notch prior class numbers. Have to like this contender. With Devaux in the sulky, watch out for this horse to get the win. Considered a solid wager based solely on his high score stat. CRUISING TOM - His 83 avg has this gelding among the finest speed ratings in here. The 86 avg class rating may give this gelding a distinct advantage in the race. GASLIGHT HALL - Don't let a standardbred with such a substantial winning statistic like this be overlooked. Is a huge choice given the 88 speed rating from his most recent affair.
