Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    December 15, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card, and the $1.00 Pick 5 begins in Race 5. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EST)

1-Racing Rampage (5/2)-Rallied in a big way to finish 2nd against better and that effort came from post 8. Now, moves into the 1-hole and drops. Logical play and Matt Kakaley should work an efficient trip.
4-Mulinax (9/5)-Beat easier in Philly, steps up but should fit with this field and Bartlett gets the call. Not loving the short price but should bring speed off the car.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EST)

4-Jumping Jack Mac N (2-1)-Dilloian trainee was 0-12 before the last 2 starts and now is riding a 2-race win streak. Recent form has been too good to ignore and should get another on the point or in the pocket trip with Yannick Gingras at the controls. Steps up and could keep winning.
5-Lou Hill (5/2)-If the Per Engblom pupil is all systems "go" he could be posing. But is only 1-22 and 0-2 at Yonkers and hasn’t race since 11-24. Bartlett does stick and Lou should be on the engine or in the 2-hole following the program choice Jumping Jac Mac. Need to use in what appears to be a chalking leg.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Manferno (9/2)-Won and then moved up to face similar and came 3rd. Draws the 1 hole, same as in the 152.4 win that came 2 back. Should be racing at the top of the stack and will fade #3 Sugar Man the 8/5 choice. Has been the favorite in the last 2 efforts and can offer more value here.
6-Blue Lou (7/2)-Lou was the runner-up 2 back against this kind and then won last time against easier. This is the 3rd start since shipping in from Stga and Kakaley has good gate speed to use. It appears its best chance to win is to leave hard, land on top or in the pocket and that can happen even from post 6.

    Race 10 (9:45 PM EST)

4-Yorokobi N (8-1)-Will take a swing for a price. This is the 3rd start off the bench and has closed nicely to hit the board in both races. Has beat better than this at Yonkers in the summer. Has trouble winning (1-27) this year, but with an inside post draw should be in the hunt at a large price.
5-Santana Hanover -Drops and has been close versus better, that's the good news. Bartlett will have the 5-year-old in a position to win and is a must use but can't completely trust.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    1,4/4,5/1,6/4,5
    Total Bet=$32

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Mahoning Valley - Race #1
#2 Santorino Bit worried that the price is going to get too short, but he has a little bit of positional route pace he showed in the debut before stopping, and he might be able to carry that better here with this cheaper crew.
#4 Briarcliff He's another who should be in a good spot near the top early on, but he has already had a couple chances with some cheaper groups and is another danger to fade late.
#1 Sligotime He has had a lot of chances already, but he does have at least a few races on his page in which he got past some horses, and that might serve him well in a spot where most of them seem likely to be one-paced late. Maybe.
Race Summary Santorino might be enough to handle this crew by shaking free at some point, as the very mild forward ability he showed in the debut might hit harder with this group.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#6 Wings of God Recent starts have been chasing races, but I think a couple of those finishing tries on the page could hit hard with this group that seems full of pace and chasing types who may be coming up empty late.
#7 Sneaky Sneaky He's another with some decent finishing form on occasion that might play well in here, and he draws well to slide over and find a spot to settle.
#2 Sprint Out Pass He has been in with some decent groups over the last half year and brings a company edge on most of these. Wouldn't be any surprise, but the price will probably reflect his chances.
Race Summary Wings of God looks interesting enough at an OK price, as he has some back form that might leave him in a good spot to finish into the splits after an early battle.
      Mahoning Valley - Race #9
#2 Truth N Soul He looks like the controlling pace in here after a couple of nice runs, and the two-back route run was razor-sharp. Wondering if the move back around two bends makes him a danger again.
#4 Jacobi Signs of life in that last one, but I don't really trust him at this kind of trip, so he's another where I would want to make sure I'm getting an OK price to see if he can hold form around two turns.
#1 Mobil Mission Something like the last would keep him in the picture again here, but I certainly wouldn't want to be here at anything like the 5/2 ML offering. Something better could be appealing enough.
Race Summary Truth N Soul looks tough in here with what feels like a decent pace edge on many of these, and his local form has been pretty sharp in recent races.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Turf Paradise - Race #3
#2 RIGHT HAND RYDER (6-1) Wins the close ones, should sit good trip, price is right.
#3 LEMON MERINGUE (5-2) Ideal pace-controlling spot, was 4-wide most of way in 1M debut.
#1 GO CATS (7-5) Blew past ‘Lemon’ to repeat at distance which he’s won at four times.
Race Summary RIGHT HAND RYDER won three photo finishes in his last four starts at the main track and can move forward in his third start of a cycle. He should sit an ideal stalking trip as he looks to build on a $74k bankroll the last two years. Bet to win and place and a 1,2,3 over 4,7 daily doubles.
        Turf Paradise - Race #4
#7 GIANOLA (10-1) Emerald shipper won off similar rest in February, exited ‘quadruple key’ race two back.
#4 MONEY IN MOTION (5-1) Cam up short in several heavily bet miles for higher tags, gets pace to run at.
#6 CLASSIC CINEMA (4-1) Has two wins since cutoff eligibility date, but still qualifies under nw/4 label.
Race Summary GIANOLA got beat 3 lengths in an August 23 sprint at Emerald Downs that produced four winners, including a minor stakes winner at Grants Pass. He rallied mildly in a fast-paced follow-up won by the late-running favorite. He’s worth a price stab in this field. Bet to win and place and play a 4-6-7 exacta box.
        Turf Paradise - Race #8
#2 MOUNT ASGARD (3-1) Will be running late as he looks to remain perfect during 6yo season.
#4 BIG DON SMILING (12-1) Acclimated locally, won four times at distance at various Cali venues.
#7 SAINT PIO (4-1) Wide trip from post 10 took its toll in latest, use in gimmick wagers.
Race Summary MOUNT ASGARD won three in a row at the Century Mile, two off similar layoffs to today and the latest in a deep field. He rallied to beat Pump The Brakes (10-48, $74k) at 6-1/2F before third-place finisher Mendeljohn came back to win 3 of his next 4 starts with an average 69 Beyer. The cutback to 5-1/2F is the only concern. Bet to win and place and play 2-4 and 2-7 exactas.

              Parx Racing - Race #1 - Post: 12:05pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $18,000 Class Rating: 78

              Rating:

              #5 WARRIOR TED (ML=7/2)
              #3 GIMMEDAMONEY (ML=6/1)

WARRIOR TED - This gelding is in fine physical condition, having run a good race on Dec 5th, finishing first. I think this gelding is coming into top form. This jock and trainer's animals have been generating a beneficial ROI. GIMMEDAMONEY - Last time out, finished fourth on the mud at Finger Lakes. Have to do better in this race. Horse made up some ground down the stretch last time around the track on November 17th at Finger Lakes. That event is better than it looked.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #10 MAGICNTHEMOONLIGHT (ML=3/1), #6 POWER AGENDA (ML=9/2),

MAGICNTHEMOONLIGHT - The Brain tells me to stay away from ponies in sprint races that haven't finished in the money in sprint contests recently. POWER AGENDA - This racer showed very liitle last time out finishing fifth. Don't expect any improvement in today's event.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - GIMMEDAMONEY - This gelding doesn't have to improve too much to win this event. Certainly worth a prime bet.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #5 WARRIOR TED is the play if we get odds of 7/5 or better
              EXACTA WAGERS: Box [3,5]

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE STARTED FOR A CLAIMING PRICE OF $5,000 OR LESS IN 2024 - 2025. THREE YEAR OLDS, 121 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE AT A MILE OR OVER SINCE NOVEMBER 15 ALLOWED 2 LBS.
                RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                # 4 LITTLE TROUBLE 5/1
                # 2 RIGHT HAND RYDER 6/1
                # 1 GO CATS 7/5
I think LITTLE TROUBLE is a quite good choice. Players should take a good look at this one as this gelding has one of the best win percentages at this distance in this group of animals. Will most likely come out very strong - I have liked the way this gelding has moved quickly to the lead recently. The speed figure of 100 from his most recent race looks very strong in here. RIGHT HAND RYDER - With Castellanos aboard him, this gelding will almost certainly be able to break out sharply in this competition. Put up a quite good Equibase Speed Figure last time out. GO CATS - Is worth serious consideration and may be a bet - strong speed figures (86 average) at today's distance and surface lately. This equine has a terrific win percentage in dirt routes.

                  # 6 THREE MARTINIS 6/1
I've got to go with INDY'S SONG. He should be given consideration given the very strong speed numbers. He looks very good in this slot and I expect will be on the lead or close at the midpoint. Has been racing solidly and has among the most competitive speed in the race for today's distance. CLUE - Will almost certainly come out sharp - I have liked the way this gelding has moved rapidly to the front end recently. Could beat this group of horses given the 80 speed figure garnered in his last outing. THREE MARTINIS - Put up a competitive speed figure last time out. Has run strongly when running a dirt route race.

                    Rating:

                    #6 LOOKIN LIKE LUCKY (ML=2/1)

LOOKIN LIKE LUCKY - Dropped in class in the last race, running against the same type today. Forgive the outside the top 3 finish on the off track in the last race. Without a sloppy track, has a good chance in this field.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #2 SANTORINO (ML=5/2), #4 BRIARCLIFF (ML=7/2), #5 MARAVICH (ML=4/1),

SANTORINO - Just can't play any racer right back after he doesn't land in the money after any long breather. BRIARCLIFF - I'd like to see more preferred recent outings with oddsmaker's morning line of 7/2. MARAVICH - Ran his best speed figure last time around the track, but the 'wet track' may have had something to do with it.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - LOOKIN LIKE LUCKY - This gelding's superior last speed number of 58, against these horses, makes him the overwhelming choice.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #6 LOOKIN LIKE LUCKY on the win end if we get at least 1/1 odds

SKATEBOARD CHIC is the clear stand out bet in the eyes of the consortium. Clearly the class of the group of animals with an average rating of 71. A nice contender. Should be given a look based on the really good TrackMaster Speed Rating recorded in the most recent race. Look for Wiskow and this interesting entrant to score in this race. Tremendous in the money statistic for the trainer/horse partnership. VEL WHAT A DREAM - Cannot put a finger on it, but think about this mare for a play. PLATINUM SHARK - Overall percentages look very good. Can't throw her out of the picture.

                            # 5 JUST ENUFF STUFF 4/1
SOUTHWIND PETYR is the clear stand out wager in the eyes of the handicapping group. Worth considering here on the basis of the markings in the speed rating department alone. Been racing with some tougher customers of late, has a distinct class advantage. (Average Rating 86). If effort in the most recent affair is representative, this harness racer will have a very competitive shot in this event. High last race speed rating. WALKINSHAW N - The 4 position sports a better than expected win stat at Yonkers Raceway. Appears that this entrant's running style fits well in this race. More than likely will be there at the finish. JUST ENUFF STUFF - Can't gloss over based on speed figures which have been exemplary (90 avg) lately. Really strong driver/trainer, winning 19 percent of the time. Looks like a excellent bet.
