Jeremy Plonk: Fair Grounds Bet $100, Get $10 Plays for Thursday

The twice-weekly Winter Winner-Land promotion rolls through Fair Grounds on Thursday. Bet $100 on the card and get $10 when you play with 1/ST BET and Xpressbet. I’ve got a couple of potential plays on the card for a barn that’s been on point in recent days in New Orleans.

Fair Grounds | Race 2 | 2:15 pm ET

#4 Becky’sgottahaveit (3-1 morning line odds) gets a much more favorable draw after being hung wide against slightly tougher competition on November 28. Trainer Sam David popped $9 and $24 turf winners last week when 5: 2-1-1 locally. Win bet #4.

Fair Grounds | Race 5 | 3:45 pm ET

#3 Remi (5-1 morning line odds) showed solid improvement from his first to second start and now makes an important, second start after a layoff. Middle-move while wide last time, but inner-draw here can be a big edge if he breaks running. Another for trainer Sam David, who popped $9 and $24 winners last week when 5: 2-1-1 locally. Win bet #3.

Mahoning Valley - Race #8

#4 Little Shance	He's back fresh while returning to the scene of his only career score, and I like that he at least showed a bit of ability to get past a couple horses in that April start. Could get the right kind of run.
#1 Live a Little	Inside pace may not take a ton of heat in a race without much other serious early speed, and it was nice to see him show a little bit of fight in the two-back win -- he has otherwise been pretty tame when confronted. I'm not sure...
#5 Spectacular d'Oro	Hit or miss form is a mild concern, but the better stuff on the page would make him tough here in a race where I'm not sure there is much form to trust.
Race Summary	Little Shance is quick enough to stay in the mix throughout, but I don't think he needs the front ad might get a really nice trip tracking the pace from the fence.

Mahoning Valley - Race #9

#4 Cat's Cradle	She was well-meant in the debut when sent to post at 2/1 and leading throughout, and she's quick enough to stay in the mix in a race with some speed, but nothing that appears over the top.
#8 Jac's Doe Maker	Turnback player won a couple of sprint races to open his career and has some upside today after the route dud last out. He has already beaten some of these, so another stakes score wouldn't surprise.
#13 Valiant Strike	He has turned in a couple decent efforts so far to start his career, and he might find an OK tracking trip out here with enough positional pace to overcome the wide draw.
Race Summary	Cat's Cradle took some cash and scored without a ton of trouble in the debut, and I wonder if he has enough upside to stick around late with this much deeper crew.

Mahoning Valley - Race #10

#1 Drills Wild Brat	She just beat some of these and should find a really good spot right up top again. She can settle and press if needed, giving her rider some options from the fence.
#9 Countess Colette	Wouldn't argue much with anyone landing here, as she's a reliable finisher with some solid stakes tries on her page. Should be along late.
#8 Hot Princess	She outran her 127/1 price in that last one when facing some of the same players she'll find lined up today, and I wonder if something similar may be enough to land a small share.
Race Summary	Drills Wild Brat looks the part right back after handling some of these last time out. She's got good spot and a rating gear that will help her avoid any early battle.

#5 LOOP OF HENLE (5-1)	Arrives off cross-country journey in good form for new barn.
Race Summary	HIDDEN TIGER has a good first gear, kept good bottom-level company at Emerald Downs and shortens up to 5-1/2F. The last time she ran at Turf Paradise, she opened a long lead from post 10 with Hernandez aboard and won. Bet to win and place and play a 4,6/4, 5, 6/ALL trifecta.

Turf Paradise - Race #4

#3 CURLIN’S SONG (5-1)	Takes magnified class drop in Turf Paradise debut, offers good enough value.
#7 BIZZY LIZZY (2-1)	Blew clear stretch leads in 3 of her last 4 starts, strictly the one to beat.
#1 SWEET BETH (6-1)	Rallied twice for third at Emerald, well-bet but no threat to ‘Lizzy’ in latest.
Race Summary	CURLIN’S SONG finished in the money in 3 of 5 starts out of town, two in Maiden Special Weight company. Her work tab is encouraging enough to think she can contend on the class drop after 5-1/2 months away. Bet to win and place and play a 1-3-7 exacta box.

Turf Paradise - Race #6

#8 I HAVE A DREAM (5-1)	Raced 4-wide most of the way from similar post, flattened out in stretch.
#7 BLUEBIRD CAF? (5-2)	Doesn’t shy from photo-finish camera but hasn’t won in last 10 starts.
#4 BEVERLY T (12-1)	Arrived in good form, worked in :34-4/5, but ran into trouble, price goes up.
Race Summary	I HAVE A DREAM raced 4-wide most of the way but flattened out in the stretch for a higher tag. She was the beaten odds-on favorite four times at Prairie Meadows in the second half of the year. Give her the nod for a win and place bet at an inflated price. Also play a 4-7-8 exacta box.

HE'S EXAGGERATING has a solid shot to take this race. Looks strong versus this field and ought to be one of the front-runners. Could beat this group given the 54 speed figure put up in his last outing. Has run solidly when running a dirt sprint race. CARIBBEAN SON - Last time out, this gelding faced a tougher field. Expect a speed boost today from this equine going on blinkers.

TIS CHARMING - Asmussen brings him right back. I advocate you stay with this hot gelding. I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run his best in the 3rd or 4th start back. This gelding registered a good speed fig of 80 in his last race. That speed fig should be high enough to triumph this time out. FETE - Wethey and Cappellucci perform well when they join forces. It's hard to beat a +59 return on investment for a jock and handler. Last workout was the second fastest of the day. Surely on edge for a good one today. This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's contest is a shorter distance and should promote his winning probability. Ran a less than stellar race at Remington Park last race out. Racing on a fast track puts this gelding at the top of my list of contenders. TOWN HERO - Alvarez rode this thoroughbred for the initial time in the last race and comes right back in today's race. This gelding should get a 'dream' trip in this spot. He looks like the only 'stalker' in this clash. MISSING ROCKS - Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this horse is up against an easier field than last race out at Lone Star Park. This speed freak is shortening up today. Should increase his chances of winning. Another way to judge class is earnings per race. This mount has the uppermost in the bunch. I think he'll be close at the finish line.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 GUAPO (ML=5/1), #4 STONINGTON (ML=8/1),

GUAPO - This gelding hasn't had any recent accomplishments in short distance affairs. No picnic to bet on him in this contest. Common speed fig last out at Remington Park at 6 furlongs. Don't feel this horse will improve too much in today's event. STONINGTON - Didn't let me see enough speed in the route clash for me to back him in today's sprint contest. The Brain always tells me to keep my distance from horses in short distance contests that haven't hit the board in short distance races lately.

I have to support ONE FRONT WAR here. Has decent early lick and will almost certainly fare admirably against this field. Ran a solid last race. Strong jockey with conditioner numbers make this horse a strong betting selection. SENORA D'ORO - She has been racing admirably recently while recording very solid speed figures. Earnings per start at the distance/surface is a good angle. This entrant ranks at the top in this field. HARD TO GET - Looks respectable against this group and ought to be one of the front-runners. Must be given consideration - I like the numbers from the last contest.

HOT COCOA - The Nov 22nd race at Tampa Bay Downs was at a class level of (77). Dropping to a lower class rank considerably, so she should be in a good position to win. This filly is in top physical condition right now. Ended up third last time out and comes back rapidly. Just look at her most recent rating, 73. That one fits well in this field. AFFIRMING - I really like that this horse shows a gate drill since the last contest and is getting the 'shades' on today. Always a good angle to play. Strong return on investment for this jockey and conditioner duo.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 CAIRO COMEDY (ML=7/2), #9 ESTRELLA (ML=5/1), #7 SMILING ROSIE (ML=6/1),

CAIRO COMEDY - Don't believe this entrant will make a winning move in today's race. That last rating was mediocre when compared with today's Equibase class figure. ESTRELLA - Don't feel this vulnerable equine will do much running in today's race. That last speed figure was mediocre when compared with today's class figure. SMILING ROSIE - Just can't wager on this pony. Didn't show me anything positive in the last race or on Oct 4th. Somewhat easily forgotten speed figure last time around the track at Aqueduct at 1 1/16 miles. Don't think this mount will improve too much in today's race.
