Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

Northfield Park has a 15-race card with the $1.00 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a 14% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:40 PM EST)

1-TT's Magnum Force (6/5)-Comes off a weather scratch and recent form has been dull. Not loving the short price at all but will include with this post draw. Dan Noble should get an efficient trip, and if he pushes the button at the right time it could be picture time.
7-Mo Bay (7-1)-The Sam Schillaci entry can be in the hunt. Gets a new addition in Aaron Merriman and that could be the winning difference. There should be an honest pace, if so, the veteran could grind it out and pop at a nice price.

Race 12 (10:02 PM EST)

2-Tru N Lovely Honor (3-1)-Has the tactical speed to give the 3-year-old filly an edge. Noble will be out and rolling and could get on the point. But if not could win off a pocket ride as well and either way should have enough left to seal the deal down the lane.
8-The Toddfather (3-1)-Makes the 1st start for the Jason Shaw barn and this will be 1st time Merriman. Competitive gelding has hit the board in 14 of 19 this year and 5 of 6 at Nfld. Has the gate speed to get a good seat off the car. Also can stalk, then roll by down the lane and the post draw helps the price.

Race 13 (10:24 PM EST)

2-Be A Lucky Star (9/5)-Last week was hung the mile in the snow and still finished 3rd losing by 1-length. The short price is tough to swallow because has gotten camera shy this year (22-2-3-2). But has been tossing hints and is a major player with a smooth trip versus this bunch.
9-Bullvillespandemic (25-1)-Greg Grismore drives and trains and this will be the 3rd start for this outfit. The post draw is an issue but fits with this crew and just qualified to get into the Series with its earnings. The faster they go the better and could be in the mix if gets a good seat around the 1st turn, and with a sharp drive.

Race 14 (10:46 PM EST)

1-Mister Marvalous (3-1)-Comes off a big win leaving from the 2nd tier and fighting through a wide trip. Does good work racing near the top of the stack and could get a more efficient journey tonight.
4-Shrimp And Grits (7/5)-Beat the $8k claimers in the fall at Nfld and won its last race going gate to wire versus the $6K claimers. Comes back against the same kind and is a logical play at a tiny price.

Mahoning Valley - Race #1

#5 Golden Haul	Thinking there may be enough upside to keep her in the mix in this second start, as she may be able to sustain her chasing pace a bit better with the debut try under her belt.
#6 Mshawish'girl	She looks like the one to beat with some attacking pace from a good outside draw, but she has been no real threat to a winner in her last two, and the price figures to be short again. Could roll these, but I'm not that enthused overall.
#4 Kiddie Cocktail	She is another who makes some sense, but I don't love the way she tends to be one-paced late in her races, and I could see someone pulling away from her in the lane again here today.
Race Summary	Golden Haul has some upside after just the one start, and she's meeting a couple of obvious players who don't want to finish their races with a whole lot of punch. Better break may keep her in a more advantageous spot early, too.

Mahoning Valley - Race #8

#1 Dreaming of Audrey	Nothing clever here -- she just needs to hold her form and she should handle this group without a whole lot of trouble. Price will reflect it, but I do think she looks like a free space in the multis.
#6 Gracie Dane	She was second-best behind the top choice when they met last month, and her follow-up run was kind of flat, so I'm not sure what to make of her here, but I think her better stuff shares again.
#2 Chess Not Checkers	She's tactical enough to find a good spot early on, and she at least beat the top choice sprinting earlier this year, so there is some hope that she's better than what we saw going long a couple starts back.
Race Summary	Dreaming of Audrey looks like she's going to be a handful again here, as she has been razor-sharp in recent starts and should find another good trip near the top.

Mahoning Valley - Race #9

#6 Kass N Kiki	Not totally sure how the Charles Town form is going to stack up here, but she has shown a little bit of pace and she gets a good draw to force the issue from out here.
#7 Arrogarsi	She made short work of that Mountaineer group at 50 cents on the dollar last time out after a career debut at Santa Anita, and that score seemed legit enough to think she can step up and play with this crew.
#2 Vanished	Mild worry about the cutback here while in reliable route form, but maybe it'll help her shake up just enough to stay in the frame.
Race Summary	Kass N Kiki has some proving to do off the two Charles Town starts, but I like the draw she gets to be right up on the splits, and she may still have some upside with just the two starts to her name.

Race Summary	POP NEIGH found Lasix of little help in a heavily-bet second start off the claim, but he adds blinkers for a 20-percent sprint-to-route barn and can be close up a long way in this field. Bet to win and place and play a 2-7-9 exacta box.

#9 REPAYNT (3-1)	Drops below claim level, figures tough on best, lures red-hot apprentice jockey.
#8 REINA MAR (2-1)	Rallied from another zip code for a win and two seconds since Parx arrival.
#1 LU LU VATON (5-1)	3yo sustained rally to pull off 28-1 shocker, moves outside in.
Race Summary	REPAYNT gave way chasing sloooow fractions for a higher tag last out, but she merits a second look off her prior two running lines. She won going away in a 12-horse field at this distance, then rallied for second behind the 1-to-5 favorite who improved to 3-for-5. Bet to win and place and play 9-1 and 9-8 exactas.

Parx - Race #8

#7 DREAMING OF BELLA (6-1)	Worked forwardly but burned debut money, starts fresh with blinks on.
#3 RANTING AND RAVING (5-2)	Caught by early trailer at Keeneland, beat follow-up winner for second.
#6 COURAGE ON TAP (7-2)	Appears rounding to winning effort, could return quick claim dividend.
Race Summary	DREAMING OF BELLA took serious money at first asking, lost contact with the front-end winner who just missed in a follow-up $75k/nw2 sprint, and faded in the lane. She returns two months later and adds blinkers for a barn whose last two stretch-out sprinters at Parx won at 15-1 and finished second at 14-1 odds, respectively. Bet to win and place and play 7-3 and 7-6 exactas.

I think LAMBO is a respectable choice. His 85 average has this colt with among the top Equibase Speed Figures for this event. With Dominguez aboard him, this colt will almost certainly be able to break out early for this race. Could best this group of horses based on the speed rating - 101 - of his last contest. SEASONAL LOVE - Conditioner boasts solid win figures at this distance and surface. Solid jockey with conditioner figs make this horse a strong betting selection. ECHO DOWN - He has been running well and the speed figures are among the most favorable in this group of horses.

SHOCK - This mount ran off the board at Parx Racing last out on a track listed as good. She should improve in this race without the slop. Lone speed horses can be tough to run down. Here's a lone front runner facing sluggish sorts today. LINO AND ME - This filly gets a weight break of -7 pounds from last race. This certainly could make the difference in today's race. REPAYNT - Padilla-Preciado drops her down to this class level. You don't need too much more from the horse's history to think this horse will be one to beat at this level. Dropping 5 pounds from last race. Could be a deciding factor today. REINA MAR - This jock/handler duo has been producing a high winning percentage, right around 38. The recent speed rating of 60 is the best last race fig in the bunch. I like a runner that makes a good late run in a sprint race and comes back in a route.

GOLDEN HAUL - Has respectable front-end speed and will most likely fare admirably versus this group. It's a good signal that Rivera is using Rivera on this horse.

BATTLE CRUISER - This gelding's last race was back on August 28th but I do believe he can run a good one coming off a layoff. Ran a lackluster race at Remington Park in the last race. Racing without the off-track conditions puts this gelding at the top of my contenders list. I like this gelding. Has the highest earnings per start (EPS) in this contest. PURE CANE SUGAR - This gelding registered a nice speed rating of 65 in his last race. That speed rating should be lofty enough to triumph in today's event. RIDING BY - This gelding is in excellent form right now. Finished third in the last race and comes back rapidly. You have to really like that recent race fig, 65, which is the best latest race speed rating of this group.

DINERO DE LA CASA - When scrutinizing today's Equibase class figure, he will have to register a much better fig than in the last race to compete in this dirt route.
