Al Cimaglia: Meadowlands Early Pick 4 Analysis

    December 26, 2025 | By Al Cimaglia

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
The Meadowlands has a 14-race card with the 0.50 Early Pick 4 starting in Race 6. The sequence has a $50,000 guaranteed pool with a 15% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EST)

8-Saturday (12-1) -The Gary Levin barn has been clicking, and this 4-year-old had a 154.4 mark last year at Wbsb. Saratoga shipper makes his M1 debut and looks like a live price shot with its recent form.
9-Sainthood (8-1)-Posted a win at this level 3 back and broke at the start last week versus better. Joe B drives for the 2nd straight time and now lands back to face the same as its most recent win. The post helps the price and should be put in play early on.
10-Iwon't Backdown AS (5/2)-Came 3rd versus better last time and should relish the company despite the post draw. Has the gate speed to get a good early seat and may have met a beatable field to capture its 1st win at M1 in 8 starts.

    Race 7 (8:50 PM EST)

2-Perfidious Crown (3-1)-Beat this kind 2 back leaving from post 5 and was used a couple of times. Shipped to Philly and came 2nd in NW10000L4, now ships back and lands in a winnable situation.
6-More Gooda N (4-1)-This will be the 2nd start on Lasix plus the 2nd time on this surface for the New Zealand bred, in only the 3rd race since 8-23. Comes back in sequence, Jim Marohn should have forwardly placed off the gate and could offer a square price.

    Race 8 (9:15 PM EST)

2-Parody (6-1)-Didn't race poorly last week and showed some heart down the lane. But wasn't as sharp as needed and lost a photo for 2nd. Did skip a start and raced on an off-track. Does fit here and came off dull cover last time. May look to get on the point early on and not look back.

    Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)

1-Delitfulcatherin N (6-1)-This 9-year-old has some back class and surprisingly this will be its 1st start at M1. Yonkers shipper drops, was 10 lengths back at the half in last and finished 2nd by a half-length. With this post draw Steve Smith can race near the top of the stack and looks to be the best down the lane.
3-I'm A Believer (10-1)-Tossing last from the 8-hole on a Good-track, this is another Yonkers shipper who was facing better and can benefit from and alert start. Is winless in 7 races at the Big M but has finished 2nd twice.
7-Miss Dottie Mae (3-1)-Shipped in from YR after 2 sharp efforts against better. Then took the long way around from the 9-hole at M1 and now drops. Cashed a small check against this kind on 11-1 but was off 2-weeks between races. Comes back in sequence this time in a race without standout.

    $1 Early Pick 4

      Gulfstream Park Pick 3, December 26, 2025

      December 26, 2025 | By Frank Carulli

      GULFSTREAM PARK PICK 3
      Friday, December 26, 2025

Gulfstream Park’s Championship Meet will resume the day after Christmas with a 10-race card. The featured $125,000 Rampart Stakes is part of a $1 Bet 3 wager that spans one hour and has nine entrants in each leg. Here a closer look with a suggested $18 play:

GP 8th race (3:48 p.m. EST) -- BACK EM UP validated a troubled trip two back at 6F with a class-rising, runaway victory at 7F and a career-best 92 Beyer in his third start for this barn. He checked sharply nearing the turn and lost a couple lengths in the race two back, but he re-gathered momentum too late to catch the lead pair. CANUTO made an eye-catching sweep on the turn in the same race but was repelled by the pace setter en route to a half-length setback and his top 87 Beyer in the same spot. Our Bet 3 hopes will rest on these two runners in a competitive leadoff leg.

GP 9th race (4:18 p.m. EST) -- DAZZLING MOVE held clear leads and held for minor awards in three graded stakes at 1-1/8 miles in her last four starts. She hasn’t raced since she drifted to third in a five-horse field as the odds-on favorite in the G-3 Delaware Handicap in September, but she should appreciate the cutback in distance for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., who stands 54-for-254 with route runners off a similar rest the last two years. STERLING SILVER parlayed her late kick into three Grade 2 placings, three 90-plus Beyers in dirt route races this year and a NY-bred stakes win at this distance. The millionairess raced with the track bias when she improved to 10-for-35 last out and starts fresh for a new barn in today’s Rampart Stakes. ONE MAGIC PHILLY willingly pursued but couldn’t pass eventual Breeders’ Cup Fillies & Mares Sprint champion Splendora and promising 3-year-old filly Shred the Gnar (3-4, $312k) in a pair of recent one-mile stakes. She won a six-figure allowance in between those starts to enhance her morning-line favoritism.

GP 10th race (4:48 p.m. EST) -- LA CANTERA is 7/3-2-1 in non-stakes races since she was claimed 15 months ago. She was patiently handled in her one-mile turf victory two starts ago, waiting for and finding a rail opening in the stretch to pull away from the field and gallop out strongly at this distance. SOUPER AMUSING has three wins and two losses by a neck in seven starts on the lawn, spanning 5-1/2F to 1-1/8 miles. She should sit a good stalking trip and offers good value to the Bet 3. INSOLENTA wasted clear stretch leads twice to fall to 0-for-7 on turf, but she romped in her last two route races on Gulfstream’s synthetic track in a manner that suggests she can handle the class hike off the re-claim on her return to the turf.

      Suggested $1 Ticket
      GP 7th Race: 4, 5
      GP 8th Race: 1, 7, 8
      GP 9th Race: 1, 2, 5
      Cost: $18

        Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

        Fair Grounds - Race #10
#8 Jaja Ja Mar Barn does good work with debuters, and this one looks like she is working quickly enough to flash a little bit of pace in a race that doesn't have any particularly serious early burn lined up.
#4 Major Move She has a little bit of speed to flash to keep up early on, but her form isn't all that reliable, and she has already made a habit of giving away ground late.
#6 Dewey's Soldier She passed a few late in that non-threatening effort last out when getting in with claiming company, and perhaps this easier spot will help her show a bit better? Wouldn't need much more to stay in the frame.
Race Summary Jaja Ja Mar debuts with a couple of forward-looking works and draws well to avoid early trouble on the outside. Interesting.
        Fair Grounds - Race #7
#11 Jetties Guessing she's going to take some action here, but she was live on the board in her debut and only went evenly at Aqueduct in October. She has room to move forward off that one for capable connections.
#4 Struck At Midnight She makes a lot of sense in here and looks tough, but I worry that she may come along a bit too late as she has in her two previous solid finishing efforts. One of the ones, but the price likely reflects that.
#12 Loch Fyne Take a look at her on the tote and track here, but there isn't a ton of depth on paper from those who have already run, so she's an interesting enough fresh face to consider for a piece.
Race Summary Jetties and Struck at Midnight seem like the right pair to me, but I also think they're also the logical ones on the board here. Jetties has a bit more upside today at what might be a slightly better price.
        Fair Grounds - Race #9
#5 Take My Picture Think there is some midrange price appeal with this one, as she has some pretty honest finishing lines on her page and seems in the mix if she's ready to fire fresh.
#2 Ontario She and the one just outside of her both look capable on recent form, but I could see either or both of them idling just a little bit in the final yards and settling underneath. No strong opinion either way.
#10 Lady of Sky She has a lot of proving to do while stepping up here, but she woke up in a hurry when getting back around two turns with that cheaper crew here a few weeks back, and I could see her sharing on the lawn with this group today.
Race Summary Take My Picture has some reliable running lines that look interesting with this group if she's ready to roll today, so check her out in the parade.

          Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

          Oaklawn Park - Race #1
#2 SWEET MUSIC (4-1) Gave way in deep field dominated by closers, today’s Best Bet.
#5 TARTARIA (7-2) ‘Improved late’ off Amoss claim on synthetic Turfway Park strip that played fast.
#10 MY BOSSY LADY (3-1) Idle since $30k July claim, met next-out winners in all but one start this year.
Race Summary SWEEET MUSIC class drops into a dream spot to get back on the winning track. She won three in a row on dirt by a combined 18-1/4 lengths, but gave way in a six-figure allowance at Oaklawn last out dominated by quality late runners like Liuzza (5-16, $219k) and Grade 3-placed You’ll Be Back. Thinking she can sit a perfect stalking trip from just off the pace. Bet to win and place and play 2-5, 2-10 and 5-2 exactas.
          Oaklawn Park - Race #6
#5 FIRST HILL (8-1) Can use her speed well in this spot as the light-weight in the field.
#9 DIXIE PENNY (3-1) Improved with 8/3-2-1 mark since claim, steps up in class in lieu of $200k Club.
#6 COLLECTED GLORY (5-2) Steady check-getter has been away since voided vet claim in July.
Race Summary Taking a price shot on FIRST HILL in hopes that she can duplicate her effort two starts ago at a comparable level. She stalked Cactus Flower – who led clear at the stretch call in 4 of her last 6 starts – but couldn’t sustain a 3-wide bid at the winning favorite. Bet to win and place and play a 5, 9/5, 6, 9/ALL trifecta.
          Oaklawn Park - Race #7
#4 HERN (5-1) Got jump on troubled fave in ‘key’ race in the slop, barn excels with layoff types.
#1 UNDERHILL’S TAB (9-2) Steady, low-80 Beyer type at Oaklawn is working forwardly for return.
#6 SARAH’S SHAMAN (3-1) Big numbers in several allowance victories at Lone Star Park.
Race Summary HERN seized the moment when the favorite was squeezed at the start and drew away from him on a sloppy track to win. Two others who finished out of the money came back and won with 75 and 72 Beyers, respectively. HERN hasn’t raced since that September race but new trainer Cipriano Contreras is 4-for-8 the last two years ($8 average win payoff) with similar layoff types off the claim. Bet to win and place and play 4-1 and 4-6 exactas.

                # 2 CHROME GHOST 6/5
TAKESHI FRANK (ARG) looks solid to best this group of horses in this race and could score at a price in here. Carrasco has this colt racing well and is a solid choice based on the formidable speed figures garnered in sprint races lately. Has been racing admirably in races of this distance, going 2 for 2 under similar conditions. Like the finishes in the last few events. KHOZEIRESS - Recorded a sound speed figure in the last race. Can run another good one in this race. Has competitive Equibase Class Figures relative to this group - worth a look. CHROME GHOST - The winning percentage shown by horses entered by Bennett running at this distance are the best in this field. Had one of the best speed figs of this group in his last race.

                  Rating:

                  #8 ASKARI (ML=8/1)
                  #1 YELLOW BRICK (ML=7/2)

ASKARI - I like when a thoroughbred has dropped in class at least five pts like this one did in the last race and then runs against a similar field right back. Kenneally must've found the right class level. Coming off a fourth place finish at Churchill Downs, some may skip over this horse. I'm not. He just missed hitting the show spot, and has pretty decent morning odds today. YELLOW BRICK - Taking a trip down in class ranks; has the class ability to make his presence felt. Have to make this horse a serious competitor; he comes off a good contest on Nov 27th.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #7 CALYCANTHUS (ML=4/1), #9 MISSION IMPROBABLE (ML=5/1), #11 HOMIE (ML=6/1),

CALYCANTHUS - This horse just hasn't looked ready lately. MISSION IMPROBABLE - Don't believe this vulnerable equine is worth 5/1 in this affair. HOMIE - Granted the last race was nice, finishing second. The lack of any recent activity raises some concerns though. The speed rating last out doesn't fit very well in this affair when I look at the class rating of today's event. Mark this mount as a likely underpriced equine.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #8 ASKARI to win. Have to have odds of at least 8/5 or better though
                  EXACTA WAGERS: Box [1,8]

FOR MAIDENS, TWO YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 120 LBS.
                    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                    # 11 KOTLIKOFF 15/1
                    # 4 AMBASSADOR BLUE 9/2
                    # 8 CREDIT HISTORY 8/1
I think KOTLIKOFF is a respectable selection and is a very good value bet given the line at 15/1. Reliable average Speed Figures in turf route races make this pony a key contender. Ran a solid last race. The average class figure alone makes this entrant a solid choice. AMBASSADOR BLUE - Has run admirably when running a turf route race. Always tough to beat Gargan and Rosario working together, winning 21 percent of their races. CREDIT HISTORY - He looks decent in this slot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the midpoint. Have to examine solely on class, with some of the top class figures of this group of horses.

                      Fair Grounds - Race #6 - Post: 3:15pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $15,000 Class Rating: 58

                      Rating:

                      #2 PERFECT UNION (ML=7/2)
                      #5 ILLY SIMZ (ML=6/1)

PERFECT UNION - Filly has shown some speed. This shorter distance should be better for her. Ran last out against a much better field at Fair Grounds. The move to a lower class rank should suit her well. Trainer, Desormeaux, has been deliberate with this filly off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. Desormeaux moves this filly to the main track today. Look for a marked improvement from the most recent race on the turf. ILLY SIMZ - I like to wager on this handicapping angle, a pony coming back off a good outing within the last month. Cannon rode this horse for the first time last time out and comes right back this time. Look at this pattern of improvement. 2/15/53 are the last three speed figures.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #7 MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE (ML=3/1), #8 AMORA (ML=9/2), #4 DIAMOND TIARA (ML=5/1),

MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE - Unlikely for this entrant to make a winning move with no recent good showings in a short distance race. This animal hasn't been in the money in either of her last two efforts. AMORA - Extended time off, then came back and finished fifth. Hard to expect much better in today's event. Will not be easy for this horse to beat this group off of that last rating. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class rating, so put her on the likely underpriced equines list. I'd like to see more conducive recent efforts with morning line of 9/2. DIAMOND TIARA - 5/1 is not pegged at the proper price for any animal in a sprint of 6 furlongs that hasn't finished in the money in a sprint event of late. This steed ran a mediocre speed figure last out. She shouldn't improve and will probably suffer defeat in today's race running that number.

Look no further than CHOOSE CAREFULLY as the bet in here. Is a very promising win contender given the 73 TrackMaster Speed Rating from his most recent outing. Talk about a dynamic duo, Merriman and Hochstetler have some of the best driver-conditioner figures at the track. Reason to like this gelding as he has in the sulky one of the top drivers in win percentage this last month. RAINBOW DESIGN - Can't pass over based on speed ratings which have been great (79 avg) lately. Would appear to have a likelihood at being helped with second time Lasix here. MOSSDALE MAC N - Considered a solid play based solely on his high triumph pct. When the starter calls, nice horses starting out of the 4 position have more wins than you would expect.
