Dayton Raceway has a 14-race card. The Early Daily Double, and the Late Pick 3 that starts in Race 12 will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 1 (4:00 PM EST)

3-Port Royal Hanover (8/5)-Shipped in from Haw and didn't disappoint on 12-12 and now Sam Widger takes the lines. Left the Erv Miller barn on 11-23 and lands in the Ron Burke stable. Comes back against the same, could be even better in the 2nd race on this surface. Does loses Chris Page and that could help the price.

Race 2 (4:20 PM EST)

3-Don't B Blue (6-1)-Northfield shipper comes in off a very sharp score on 12-22 and it was 1st time Lasix. This 3-year-old should be a solid price and has 5/8's experience. Could double up versus a soft group of older foes.

Race 12 (7:40 PM EST) Late Pick 3

5-Blue Ocean (8/5)-Started slowly and was fortunate to catch the leaders down the lane but got nipped at the wire. Needs to be used at this level but slow starts make it more difficult. Will look for Sam Widger to be closer to the leader turning for the wire in his 2nd straight steer.
8-Lazy Jane (15-1)-Comes off an even effort in a needed start. Could be a large # and will give the veteran some respect in the 2nd start a lower level. Does like to win and could surprise with a smooth trip.

Race 13 (8:00 PM EST)

1-Barley A Lie (12-1)-Drew off last week leaving from post 5 and that made 2 wins in 3 starts. Northfield shipper is sharp and could be a live price shot after drawing post 1. Has hit the board in 2 of 3 starts at DTN and could post a win if races near the top of the stack.
6-Odds On Mad Hatter (8/5)-Bumps up after an efficient win and could get a similar trip here. The price is right to string along and does good work at DTN (15-4-5-2). The Virgil Morgan entry has 6 wins in 12 starts on this oval and has only missed the board twice. Finished 2nd and 3rd to a tough foe in the last 2 races and he isn't in this field.

Race 14 (8:20 PM EST)

3-Hell On Wheels (2-1)-Longshots started inside last time and they were able to secure the point and the pocket. Luke Hanners landed 3rd and the race fell apart when the leaders faltered. Was blocked in the lane but it didn't cost the win, although could have finished higher. Did attempt to leave hard in last and will expect a big try on the drop in class.
6-Trifecta (20-1)-Price shot should be better in the 2nd start after a sick scratch. Could never get into the last race starting from post 9. The last time the 6-year-old drew inside was on 11-7. That day started from post 3 and finished 2nd versus this kind. Will take a swing here at what should be a jumbo price.

Santa Anita Park - Race #7

#2 Zio Jo	Loved the effort on the move to the shorter run last time out, and I think this slightly longer turf sprint trip might work in his favor. Price should be right again.
#10 Sumter	He has been pretty good at this kind of trip in the past and has held decent form in recent starts going long. He just missed in this race last year and fits if he can bring something similar.
#6 Motorious	Just a little flat at the Breeders' Cup by his typical standards, but he landed a couple of graded scores at this trip here in the last year and figures tough again.
Race Summary	Zio Jo and Sumter both offer a little bit of midrange price appeal, and the former might enjoy a slightly longer trip today after taking nicely to a dash last out.

Santa Anita Park - Race #8

#4 Strongerthanbefore	He has given away some ground late in both tries with winners, but I wonder if he might be able to see out this mile trip with a good run right up on the pace.
#5 Team Player	He ran well enough going long at first asking to think there might be something better in store today with a bit more experience under his belt, and he should find a nice spy behind a few quicker players early.
#8 Known Idea	Honest form fits well here, and the move back to the main track isn't a worry with a sharp two-back effort to his name. One of the ones.
Race Summary	Think you can go a few ways in here, but Strongerthanbefore has some appeal while moving around two turns with a bit of positional pace. First-jump run gets him home?

Santa Anita Park - Race #9

#11 Medici	Pretty disappointing runs in the last pair, but I still think he's capable of something better than that last one, and the price might be OK. Top stuff would do.
#1 Biggiebiggiebiggie	Not a whole lot from him in recent starts, but he has been in with a couple of good groups over the last few months and could probably stay in the frame with one of those better tries.
#4 Rio Grande	He finished up well behind an easy winner when getting on the grass for the first time, and a better break would likely keep him in a more tactical spot this time around.
Race Summary	Medici couldn't stay late last time out, but he turns back a furlong for this one and might be able to dig in a bit better at this mile trip.

Race Summary	ALERAMO should sit an ideal trip on the class drop against seven rivals who are a combined 1-for-37 on the Santa Anita turf. She broke her maiden for $50,000 on the Del Mar lawn, rank okay against unbeaten three-peater Willa T and left too much work to do last out at one mile after she leaned back and was bumped at the start. Bet to win and place and play a 6, 7 with 4, 6, 7 exacta.

Santa Anita - Race #4

#7 CONVO (7-2)	Sadler-trained firster by hot sire fired three bullet workouts on the main track.
#8 INTO THE HALL(8-5)	Can control pace from the outside, just missed as the favorite in last pair.
#1 LUBIE’S MUSIC (5-2)	Ran to fast works, surged late for second in blanket finish, unable to reach dueling leader.
Race Summary	CONVO, a $400,000 sales buy, has been prepping at Santa Anita for three months as if she means business in her debut on turf. Her sire, McKinzie, produced two Grade 1 and a Grade 3 winner this year and her dam, Naughty Joker (9/2-2-3, $176k) was a stakes winner in her first year of racing. Bet to win and place and play 7-1 and 7-8 exactas.

#2 LEFT HAND MAN (6-1)	Improved with blinks, better on dirt, price attached off encouraging 5F work.

Race Summary	LEFT HAND MAN returns to the main track, where he earned 80-plus Beyers in winning back-to-back races by a nose with the addition of blinkers, then finished an even fourth behind multiple stakes winner Chosen Vron (10-17, $497k). Tough for anyone who saw this pony in his last race to bet on him this time around.

BUCKEYE MIKE - Jock jumped on this gelding's back for the first ride on December 16th. Should be acquainted with the animal even better this race. That 51 fig this gelding earned in his last race tells me he's a key player this time around. Have to give this gelding a good shot. Ran a strong contest last out within the last 30 days. DRILL EM - In the last race, finished fifth on the mud at Mahoning Valley Race Cour. Have to do better in this race. This horse already beat the morning-line choice last out at Mahoning Valley Race Cour. SILVER IS A GIFT - This gelding is sent through the entry box right back into a race in less than 10 days; this is a positive sign. Ran a lackluster race at Mahoning Valley Race Cour in the last race. Racing under normal track conditions puts this gelding at the top of my contenders list.

BUMPKIN - No favorable outcomes for this horse in a sprint event over the last couple months tells me that this gelding is in a thorny circumstance You should normally wager against favorites that haven't raced or show no activity in the morning over the last three weeks. This gelding notched a fig in his last affair which likely isn't good enough in today's race. PLUM TUFF - The finish of eighth in the last affair shows me that this animal may be tailing off. JACOBI - No picnic to wager on this mount this time around. Make him show you something in a short distance race before you wager on him in a race of 6 furlongs. The speed rating last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's event. Mark this animal as a questionable challenger.

With a respectable 98 Equibase Speed Figure last time out, will surely be a factor in this race. BIGGIEBIGGIEBIGGIE - Recently Ayuso has been hot which may give the edge to this colt.

If effort in the last outing is any indicator, this fine animal will have a very very good shot in this event. High last race TrackMaster SR. JESSIES OUTLAWED - This gelding has been going to post versus some of the most competitive company in this group of horses most recently. Had one of the most solid speed figs of the group of animals in his last race. Must use in your wagers.UPFRONT STONE - Overall figures appear great. Can't throw out at this point.

TIE GAME sure does look ready to end up in the winner's circle. Could surprise us at a fairly reasonable price. Don't leave out. With one of the most respectable drivers in terms of crossing the wire first, don't count this gelding out of the race. Look for Pereira and this contender to take the whole enchilada for this one. Excellent in the money statistic for the trainer/horse partnership. THE HITMAN HEART - Bossence knows this interesting entrant well. Top notch in the money history when starting as a team. Woodbine Mohawk Park has been playing to this contender's running style, we're looking for a clear-cut effort. DULCES SUENOS DEO - This affair may be controlled by this colt. One look at the avgerage TrackMaster Speed Rating will verify that. This nice horse has shown us some prior ability, just look at the 66 avg class rating. Should play well in this race.
