Gulfstream Park will ring in the New Year with a 10-race card this Thursday, Jan. 1. It starts early, with the first post at 12:20 p.m. EST, but if you wake up a bit late, don’t worry. You will have plenty of time to watch nd wager on the Pick 3 that encompasses a pair of stakes races for newly turned 3-year-olds. Here’s a look at the action with a suggested $2 Pick 3 ticket that costs $36:

GP 8th race (3:48 p.m. EST) -- Seven sophomore fillies bring a combined 29/7-11-4 record with average earnings of $64,900 into the $175,000 Cash Run, but all are seeking their first stakes victory. Woodbine invader DUNBAR BEACH gets Hall of Famer John Velazquez to ride and gets the call in her first start on conventional dirt. She was disqualified from second in her debut race won by eventual two-time stakes winner Piper’s Gift, swung 5-wide and ran third after a troubled start as a follow-up favorite, then launched a strong run between rivals to win going away in her first long distance test. SECANE was most impressive in her 7F debut win at Gulfstream, sprinting to a clear lead, finding another gear when challenged on the turn and running away from the wandering favorite in the stretch. She returned in the one-mile Tempted Stakes at Aqueduct three months later, chased Shilling – who set the pace for 6F in a Grade 2 stakes next out – and ‘kept on’ to finish third. The daughter of 2018 Florida Derby winner Audible is a deserving favorite and the one to catch.

GP 9th race (4:18 p.m. EST) -- CHARLIE’S WISH (pictured), nearing a half-million as the field’s top money earner, is a steady mid-80 Beyer type when she races with Lasix. She’s a stakes winner on Gulfstream’s synthetic surface and could hold a tactical advantage in a race that lacks quality speed. FOR FLYING placed in a pair of Grade 3 stakes at Woodbine in four starts on the synthetic track and she, too, can make good use of her speed. DANCING N DIXIE, pinched and in tight early, unwound at the quarter pole and had a ‘solid late charge’ to finish third in the Grade 3 Maple Leaf, ahead of FOR FLYING in the 1-1/4-mile marathon that favored closers.

GP 10th race (4:48 p.m. EST) -- GLORIOUS BOY made an eye-catching stretch run and wouldn’t have needed a disqualification to emerge the winner from a dead heat with the rival that forced him inward and exchanged bumps in the closing yards. He broke his maiden sprinting on the Aqueduct lawn, ran second in a follow-up 6F stakes race and should have no trouble transitioning back to the grass after a :46 bullet workout at Gulfstream last Friday. He could be a solo play, but with maiden breakers from nine different tracks uniting in the $175,000 Dania Beach, use a couple longshots on the Bet 3 ticket. ZEPPELIN awaited room on the final turn and found it in time to catch the two favorites in a 25-1 debut upset on the Churchill Downs lawn. EASY WIND improved his speed figures at four turf venues to start his career, then changed tactics and set a fast pace in a turf-to-dirt mile won by his 1-to-2 stablemate. Morning-line favorite HONEY DUTCH will be a popular play with a high turn of early foot and Irad Ortiz Jr. summoned to ride. He widened a big lead on the turn and got caught two back, then controlled a soft pace and got caught again in his first stakes attempt at a longer distance. For value purposes, we won’t use him on the ticket.

1st race – Let’s start off the new year with a winner! - (6) Angelic Quality went very wide from post 11 in her career debut. Deserves a second chance here from a better post with Irad. (8) Drupe is an interesting first-time starter. (10) Sister Slew may like the switch to turf. (5) Blazing Bridgette deserves some attention in this field. Betting strategy: 6 to win, place. Exacta box: 5-6-8-10.

3rd race – (4) Guys Trip has some useful experience and this level and distance here and gets the nod. (3) What It Tiz should get a look after a maiden win. (1) He’s a Daredevil will be helped by a rail trip. Betting strategy: 4 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-3-4.

5th race – (2) El Apagon returns to Tapeta and has enough speed to lead throughout. (5) Cruzin Man looks like the one to fear. (7) Sosua Summer may wake up after a disappointing try. (6) Louie the Sun King should be a threat in the final furlong. Betting strategy: 2 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-5-6-7.

7th race – (4) Storm the Streets gets back on turf and gets top billing here. (9) Berlone will welcome a return to turf. (3) Double Neat belongs in the exotics. (6) Two Beers by Ten should improve on turf. Betting strategy: 4 to win, place. Exacta box: 3-4-6-9.

9th race – (6) For Flying has been racing on Tapeta in graded stakes at Woodbine. Has a class edge here. (7) Mama Bella should work out a good trip in this field. (2) Dancing N Dixie has a nice late kick and cannot be ignored. (1) Design will benefit from a ground-saving trip. Betting strategy: 6 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2-6-7.

2^nd race [NY, Alw 35000s, 6 ? F] – (1) Brave Buck won 3 of his last 4 starts since getting claimed by Linda Rice in June and has not faced NY-breds since his debut win in a maiden claimer. (6) E Z Bourbon returns from a June layoff when he was second then third in open-company starter allowances. (3) Liberty Rising won a NY-bred maiden special weight which is not something that the rest of these did. (5) Dormello won a $30,000 maiden claimer by more than six lengths in November.

5^th race [Clm 17500B, 1 mi] – (4) Another Cleeshay was second in a similar spot in November and got claimed. (3) Top of the Table was taken for $30,000 by Linda Rice which was her first start for a tag in more than year. (1) Ah Ca Ira drops in to a claimer for the first time since winning a $30,000 maiden claimer. He won a NY-bred allowance at Saratoga. (7) Serenading Kitten moves to winter racing at Aqueduct from Woodbine where last seen she won for $15,000.

7^th race [Clm 10000, 1 mi] – (5) Miss Lao (C) bet down from 8-1 to 6-1, pressed the pace, got the lead, lost by a nose, and got claimed. (7) Best Impression was a clear-cut front-end winner for $17,500 last month. (4) Enigmatic won a pair of starter allowances recently and was claimed for $16,000 at the Big A after a third-place finish. (8) Jackie the Joker was claimed for $16,000 two races back.

8^th race [Alw 50000s, 1 mi] – (5) Coffee Talk broke his maiden for $50,000 at Keeneland and was claimed by Linda Rice and since then was third twice in starter allowances. (1) Reynolds Channel was claimed from a second when he missed by a neck for $50,000 in December. (6) Interceptor had the lead and finished right behind Reynolds Channel in a blanket finish. (7) Did It Dialed changes to the barn of Bill Morey who does well with new horses.

BERLINWIN - The ROI when Saez and Sharp partner up is tremendous. The addition of Lasix might make this horse wake up and run very well right here in this race. You have to consider this horse in today's race. She has been claimed out of her last two races.

Has performed admirably lately in sprint races, posting a nifty 87 avg Equibase Speed Fig. BROWNSTONE - Solid gamble today with second time Lasix. With a strong jockey who has won at a decent 15 percent clip over the last month. This has to be one of the top selections.

A repeat of that most recent effort on Nov 19th where he registered a speed figure of 67 looks high enough to prove victorious in this affair. TIP TOE JOE - Trainer Martin moves this animal to a lower class level to face a lower class field. Look for a good race in this race. Another way to determine class is earnings per race entered. This thoroughbred has the topmost in the field. I think he'll be close at the finish.

PENCIL BLUFF - Much too far back in the first part of the last route contest will probably make it tough to make an impression today in this sprint race.
