My selection for this event is LIBEL PROOF. Is hard not to examine based on speed figures which have been strong - 78 avg - of late. Should go to the lead and might never look back. Appears to have a solid class edge based on the recent company kept. DONTTELLMEWHATTODO - This racer enters today's contest on Lasix. When Papaprodromou uses Maldonado there's a good chance for profits. CECILIA STREET - This filly could improve on Lasix. Always good to invest in a handler with this kind of solid win percentage - 15 percent - at this distance & surface.

FEVER NIGHT - This gelding is the longer price of the 'split' entry from the barn of Rice. Lezcano comes to saddle up after getting to know the gelding in the last affair. This horse brings in a lot of dough per race around the track. I believe he will add to the lifetime earnings in today's race. Rice drops him down to this class level. You don't need too much more from the pp lines to figure that this thoroughbred should be one of the top contenders at this level. KAVANAUGH - The December 11th event at Aqueduct was at a class level of (92). Dropping down the ladder based on class considerably, so he should be in a good spot. APALTA - I like when a racer wins after shipping in from elsewhere. It shows that they really like the track here. I'll take this gelding to win again. Jock and trainer do well when they partner up. Prat and Rice have been dependable together.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 EGYPTIAN (ML=9/2), #4 SENEGAL (ML=9/2), #1 MAGNI (ML=8/1),

EGYPTIAN - This questionable contender gave a less than rousing performance last time out of the box finishing third. Don't expect a reversal of fortune in today's race. SENEGAL - Doesn't seem inspiring to me after the lack of any sort of closing talent on December 12th. When looking at today's Equibase class figure, he will have to record a better speed figure than in the last race to battle in this dirt route. MAGNI - 8/1 is just too low of a reward to take on most any horse that has run poorly in back to back efforts. Improbable that the speed fig he notched on December 12th will be enough in this clash.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - APALTA - This gelding improved his speed rating two races back on October 22nd and improved again in the last race.

DONTTELLMEWHATTODO - Maldonado and Papaprodromou getting together are a railbird's friend. There's something to be said for a change of surface. Last race this animal didn't like the terrain, but if you look two back on the turf at Del Mar, there was a great effort. I look for that again today. MY KAT - The 76 last race speed figure looks sound on paper. Faced tougher last time out at Del Mar. Based on class ratings, this is a weaker field, so I will put this one on my list of strong contenders. A strong handicapping angle is 1st time on Lasix. Papaprodromou gives it to this one for this event. This filly is clearly on the improve with Equibase speed figures of 40, 72, 76 last three out. LINO'S ANGEL - Average class rating is tops in this group. I think that is a big advantage for a turf race. Alvarez is hoping to get a little more out of this filly by adding blinkers today. A great handicapping angle is Lasix - 1st time. Alvarez gives it to this one for this affair.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 LIBEL PROOF (ML=5/2), #5 CECILIA STREET (ML=4/1),

LIBEL PROOF - Could be tough for this thoroughbred to beat this field off of that last speed rating. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure close to today's Equibase class figure, so put her on the likely underlays list. CECILIA STREET - Usually I need a sprinter to have some success lately in short distance affairs in order to back her.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - DONTTELLMEWHATTODO - Equibase class rating today of 76. Taking a big drop in the level of competition and should wake up versus an easier level of competition. Worth a prime bet.

WARRAWEE YANKEE - Many race players know speed is of the utmost importance. This contender has credentials with a 84 avg statistic. This gelding has been squaring off against some of the most competitive company in this bunch recently. THAT DOG WILL HUNT - Been squaring off with some tougher customers of late, has a distinct class edge. (Average Rating 81). Most likely think these two have something special. Godinez sending the horse out means a great chance to get the trip to the winner's circle.
