Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

Northfield Park begins the week with a 15-race card. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a 14% takeout, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:40 PM EST)

2-Rocknroll Runa A (4-1)-The Larry Stalbaum horses are starting to wake up and this one is fast. Runa races on smaller ovals but could be best on big tracks. Going to use and assume the morning line is low and could be on the point or in the pocket when the wings fold.
4-Helium N (2-1)-Beaten chalk came up empty on 1-4 and has been idle since. Will look for Dan Noble to be aggressive and should be blasting out.

Race 12 (10:02 PM EST)

2-Mr Mclaren N (7-1)-This veteran was racing with Open company and Winner's Over at Stga. It should appreciate the company. Can't completely trust the program chalk so will use a couple of others in this leg.
5-AYR Balmoral GB (6/5)-Has been facing better and drops to a competitive level. Ronnie Wrenn will want to be on top or close to the lead when the wings fold. Figures to be a main player as long as the trip is smooth.
8-Trosa A (25-1)-Has won at this level and has been close versus better. AMac could look to duck and then rally. If the pace is hot the 7-year-old could grind it out and be the best down the lane. Longshot needs the right set-up, but the price is right to take that chance.

Race 13 (10:22 PM EST)

2-Big Skewy N (9/5)-Came up flat last time after winning 2 straight drawing off by 4 and 6 lengths. Comes right back, should be a better price than 1/9, and will look for a bounce back effort.
5-Lil Plugs (15-1)-Lost in a photo by a whisker at 27-1 and was driven by new trainer Braiden Rhoades. This will be 3rd start in the new barn and will look for the upswing to continue at a price.

Race 14 (10:44 PM EST)

2-Sweet Alex (6/5)-Alex doesn't win often but on 1-4 finished a close 3rd off a wide trip in the 1st drive for Dan Noble. Comes into this affair with a stale date but otherwise figures to be a main player. Noble should make the most of the post relief, started from the 2nd tier last time.

2^nd race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (6) Eagle Rising returns from a May layoff with a pace-pressing second-place finish in April that would win against these NY-breds. (2) Our Preferred Pal has a pair of races in the spring that make him a serious contender. (1) Full Pour comes back from a May layoff when she finished third twice. (4) Lady Delilah moved from turf to dirt and finished second twice this winter.
3^rd race [Clm 50000B, 6 ? F] – (6) Shadyside (C) was bet down from 12-1 to 9-1 in November and made an eight-wide closing move to finish second. She gets first-time Lasix. (5) Ready for Trouble was claimed for $40,000 in three races in a row and nine days ago ran third in a similar spot. (4) Princess Ny was claimed in November for $40,000 at Churchill Downs and will now make her first start for Linda Rice. (1) In Awe of Juju gets blinkers off after showing early speed in her last two races and comes back in 18 days.
4^th race [OC 16k/SAL 10K, 6F] – (2) Best Impression was a winner a week ago at Aqueduct for a $12,500 tag for a barn that has suddenly gotten hot after a very long dry spell. (6) Echo in Eternity was a winner for $10,000 in November which gets her into this spot as a starter allowance. Last time she was second in a $16,000 race. The move down the ladder based on class rating points should suit him well. FORT HOOD - Faces state bred foes today after finishing fifth versus 'open' company on January 4th. Faced tougher last time out at Sam Houston. Based on class figures, this is a weaker group, so I will put this horse on my list of strong contenders. BANDERA BLING - Last workout was the second fastest of the day. Surely on edge for a good one today. Faces state bred foes today after finishing sixth versus 'open' company on Sep 23rd. Gelding's win percentage is better than 50 percent in first and second starts off a vacation. Last race was at Louisiana Downs in a race with a class figure of 88.
