Tomorrow (January 21) marks the second of three eligible days for one of our new promotions to kickoff 2026. The “Wednesday Wins” promo began last week and continues each Wednesday until the end of the month at Tampa Bay Downs and Turfway Park. For those of you that did not take part a week ago, it is simple. Simply register, bet $50 at each track, and earn a $10 bonus. I will be taking part again this week with my focus on these horses.

Tampa Bay Downs, Race 5
Trainer Miguel Clement has been on fire to start 2026. Clement has won with 5 of 16 starters to kick off the year and his Tampa meet has gone even better evidenced by his 7 for 14-record dating back to mid-November. He sends out two in this MSW event for 3YO fillies at two-turns over the turf, including first-time starter #10 Deference. The daughter of Street Sense has been training at Payson Park for some time without missing a beat, so she certainly should be fit. The 3YO gal has some solid turf influences on the dam side, including being the younger half-sister to $412k turf earner High Opinion. Samuel Marin has been aboard 8 of Clement’s horses over the last 60 days, 5 have won. Hopefully, he gets this filly home to kick off the late Pick 5.

Play: #10 Deference (3-1 ML)

Turfway Park, Race 6
I will try to beat the ML favorites in this auction restricted MSW event for 3YO fillies at 6.5-furlongs over the Turfway all-weather with second-time starter #11 Tiz a Princess. The daughter of Complexity debuted in an open company MSW over this surface on December 11 and ran pretty well considering she broke decent, but not great from the rail and had her hand forced from there. I love the move from the rail to an outside post in sprints for a young horse because it just more often than not results in a less stressful voyage. The class drop and likely trip should have this Jeremiah O’Dwyer trainee in a good spot early. At her 8-1-ML price, I will gamble she has more to offer late after tiring in the lane at first asking.

Play: #11 Tiz a Princess (8-1 ML)

Turfway Park, Race 7
#4 Ripassare comes in having won three consecutive races, but I am not willing to swallow the chalk on the Vino Rosso mare. Instead, I will ride the hot hand of trainer Mike Maker. Maker sends out #5 Gata Brazil for the second start under his care. The daughter of Into Mischief raced for trainer Brittany Russell through her first 9 starts, all at one-turn and performed decent, but not spectacular. In the first start under Maker, Gata Brazil came back off a 2.5-month break in a 6-furlong event at this same allowance condition and ran a solid third. Maker has not only been hot over the last 30 days in Florence winning with 8 of his 28 starters for a $3.39 ROI, but has been a master over the years at stretching horses out further after acquiring them well into their racing career. I am hopeful he can do just that with a filly that should have no issue getting two-turns based on pedigree. Joe Ramos gets the leg up for the first time.

Turfway Park - Race #6

#11 Tiz a Princess	She put up an OK fight before fading here last month, but she gets a better draw today while getting off the fence and might find the front in a race without much confirmed early speed.
#5 Princess Woejee	She was fairly live on the board and finished up well in the debut run here, and any move forward off that try should make her a handful today. Price probably reflects that.
#13 Mo Biscuit	I like that she moved up in her first local try, and some upside off that run might keep her in the picture with this crew. I'm not super enthused about her, but she wouldn't be a surprise.
Race Summary	A few fresh faces offer a chance to quicken the tempo, but it looks pretty soft on paper here and might give Tiz a Princess a chance to flash speed and run these off their feet.

Turfway Park - Race #7

#7 Sudden Switch	Wonder if she has a couple of excuses for some of the flat tries on her page, and she feels like the right alternative to the logical -- and dangerous -- favorite listed next.
#4 Ripassare	Nothing wrong with making over $200k while just running through the conditions, and she has a right to be a handful again with this group while getting back around two turns.
#6 Fantastical	She brings some mild form out of stakes company, and she was pretty solid here in the local starts last season. Enough to like.
Race Summary	Sudden Switch can bounce back after trying a tougher stakes crew last time out, and she might get a really good run while right up on the splits today.

Turfway Park - Race #9

#12 Thirty Thirty	Not sure who you're supposed to get excited about in this one, and this guy at least has that three-back finishing run on his page that seems interesting enough if there's any chance he gets back to it in the local debut.
#1 Gosh Sakes	The Colonial run was decent enough to make him a player here if he's able to find something like that, and this is a decent enough drop to the basement.
#4 Go Chicago	Suppose he's a player while cutting the tag today, but there's not much to write home about from the two fade jobs so far, and I think there might be just enough other pace in here to make sure he can't scoot clear.
Race Summary	Thirty Thirty isn't much to look at on paper, but I think this could be a race that stays open for anyone who can plug away late, and I'm hoping the Belterra run is the standard for that today.

#7 R SKYLINE (3-1)	Dam ran well on dirt tracks, barn is running well with first-time Lasix angle.
#2 MY LIL FLIRT (5-1)	No factor in fast route at Gulfstream, gets Lasix, changes riders again.
#3 KNOWLEDGE IS GOOD (2-1)	Contested slow pace, just missed under the same conditions.
Race Summary	R SKYLINE stalked a decent pace on a synthetic track but raced evenly, then was outrun in a well-bet stretch-out attempt on turf. Now she tries conventional dirt for the first time, a surface her dam, City In Sky (4-14, $82k), did her best running. Bet to win and place and play 7-2 and 7-3 exactas.

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #3

#4 ARROGANCY (5-1)	Regained some of lost form in victory, holds tactical advantage at decent price.
#5 EMPRIE SKY (5-1)	Slow-starting and overland trips have taken toll, gets in light, can’t be ignored.
#1 CINCO DE MO (3-1)	Piles up the checks, needed last after three months away.
Race Summary	The photo-finish camera was needed the last four times ARROGANCY battled for the lead sprinting at various venues. His form regressed in the second half of a lightly-raced 2025 season, but he arrives off a win at Tampa earlier this month and can maximize his speed in this field. Bet to win and place and play 4-1, 4-5, 5-1 and 5-4 exactas.

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #6

#2 NIGHT RAVEN (8-1)	On the improve, will be running late, price attached.
#4 I’M MISCHIEVOUS (5-2)	Plays catch-me-if-you-can in fourth try at the $16,000 level.
#10 RED FERN (7-2)	Encouraging workout over track, must avoid wide trip from out here.
Race Summary	NIGHT RAVEN improved with Lasix in his last two starts and should get a much livelier pace to rally into on the cutback to a long sprint. The inner post draw helps and the price is right for a win and place bet. Also play 2-4 and 2-10 exactas.

I like C C SHORT DRIVE here. This filly has posted some nice finishes in her last several efforts. Overall, has one of the top earnings per start in dirt sprint races in this group. Has been racing quite well and has among the most favorable speed in the race for today's distance. WUPKAR - Wong has a solid winning percentage with horses running in dirt sprint races. Has formidable Equibase Class Figures relative to this group of animals - worth a look. VIV'S WILD ACES - I would have to consider this mare on the jock and handler numbers alone. A nice ROI of +26 with this rider and trainer duo.
