Meet the Contenders: Saturday’s Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park

    by Jeremy Plonk

The Florida Derby trail heats up Saturday at Gulfstream Park when the Grade 3 $275,000 Holy Bull Stakes anchors a 12-race card that includes 4 stakes. Past Holy Bull winners include 2020 Belmont Stakes winner Tiz the Law, 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro and 1994 Kentucky Derby winner Go For Gin.

Let’s meet the contenders for the Holy Bull Stakes (Race 12):

#1-INCREDIBOLT: Winner of Churchill Downs’ Street Sense Stakes, the Riley Mott trainee aims for a third straight victory. Son of Bolt d’Oro looks to follow in the footsteps of 2024 Street Sense winner Sovereignty, who would win the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes the following spring. This will be his first start outside of Kentucky and first since October. Regular rider Jaime Torres has the mount.

#2-ROGER THAT DANA: Mucho Macho Man Stakes runner-up at 23-1 odds has been a Gulfstream regular in all 4 starts. Florida-bred finished third in the Florida Sire Stakes In Reality behind Strategic Risk, the eventual Smarty Jones winner who runs back Saturday in Oaklawn’s Southwest Stakes. Luis Ramirez trains and Renzo Rojas rides.

#3-PROJECT ACE: Son of 2019 Preakness winner War of Will makes his stakes debut. The Dale Romans trainee won his third start to break his maiden in November at Churchill Downs. Dale Romans trains and Corey Lanerie has been in the saddle each start.

#4-GLOBAL AVIATOR: Nov. 29 Gulfstream sprint debut winner for trainer Rohan Crichton gets tested for distance and class in his follow-up bid. $12,000 bargain buy by Global Campaign. Joe Bravo rode in the unveiling and will again Saturday.

#5-CANNONEER: Turned heads Nov. 29 at Churchill Downs when winning a 7-furlong maiden special weight on the same card as the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. Trainer Brad Cox won the Mucho Macho Man Stakes to start the Florida Derby path with Commandment and seeks to add the second leg with a fresh face. $1,750,000 yearling purchase by Into Mischief is out of the blue hen mare Catch the Moon, who has produced graded-stakes winners Girvin, Midnight Bourbon and Cocked and Loaded.

#6-BUETANE: Reportedly will scratch due to travel issues.

#7-NEARLY: Florida-bred son of hot sire Not This Time has won back-to-back Gulfstream Park starts since a troubled debut at Aqueduct in October. Maiden and allowance victory at 6 and 7 furlongs will get his first route chance and first stakes bid. Todd Pletcher and John Velazquez team up. Pletcher won this race in 2012 (Algorithms) and 2018 (Audible). Johnny V’s only Holy Bull score came in 1997 (Arthur L.).

#8-BRAVARO: Palm Meadows-based colt shipped to Aqueduct to win a New York-bred maiden and $200,000 Sleepy Hollow Stakes among his 2 lifetime starts. Saffie Joseph Jr. is coming off a 1-2 Pegasus World Cup finish last Saturday, and teams with Skippinglongstocking’s pilot Tyler Gaffalione for the first time. Sire Upstart won the 2015 Holy Bull Stakes.

#9-GAME FOR IT: Dec. 10 debut winner at Aqueduct in a maiden optional claiming race. Son of 2021 Florida Derby winner Known Agenda takes a step up in class and extends from that 6-furlong sprint. Bullet workout at Palm Meadows for trainer Chad Summers, who also has Champagne winner Napoleon Dynamite on this year’s Triple Crown prep trail. Junior Alvarado rides for the first time.

Race of the Week: Saturday's Forward Gal at Gulfstream Park

      by Jeremy Plonk

      The Lead:
We'll stay at Gulfstream Park for a third straight Race of the Week analysis after $361 and $451 returns the past 2 weeks. Florida Derby and Kentucky Derby prospects strut their stuff Saturday in the Holy Bull Stakes. It’s part of a 5-stakes menu on a 12-race card that also includes Oaks hopefuls in the Grade 3 Forward Gal Stakes, our Xpressbet Race of the Week. The Forward Gal goes as Race 10 and features 6 last-out winners and a pair of narrow runners-up in the field of 8.

Horseplayers at 1/ST BET and Xpressbet be sure to take advantage of a $1,000 Late Pick 4 Hit & Split on Saturday’s card at Gulfstream Park, which includes the Forward Gal as well as the featured Holy Bull Stakes.

      Field Depth:
Grade 3 winner MYTHICAL (pictured) has the field’s signature score to date. Listed stakes winners include TESSELLATE, SNEAKY GOOD and ON TIME GIRL. Hard to argue against MYTHICAL having held the strongest strength of schedule over the course of her 5 prior stakes bids.

      Pace:
For a 7-furlong sprint, this race doesn’t have a serious of obvious pace players, though every filly in the field has shown the ability to be 1-2 early when called upon. It’s a difficult pace projection with so much style versatility.

      Our Eyes:
      Here are my horse-by-horse notes.

#1-MUSIC BURST: Churchill maiden breaker Nov. 13 against well-bred Cox filly who returned to win Jan. 4 at Gulfstream. Runner-up in Turfway allowance behind multiple stakes-placed filly, so this one has kept solid running lines despite this being her first stakes attempt. Trainer Rusty Arnold won this race in 2023 and jockey Luis Saez has owned the Forward Gal – winning 4 of the last 5 editions and 5 times overall.

#2-TESSELLATE: Two-time stakes winner at Gulfstream and Tampa Bay Downs for Saffie Joseph Jr., who saddled the 1-2 finishers in last week’s Pegasus World Cup. One of 3 fillies in field to have already won over 7 furlongs. Joseph won this race in 2020 and 2024 and turns the reins over to Junior Alvardo for the first time as Edgard Zayas rides Mythical on Saturday.

#3-SECANE: Second shot here for Saffie Joseph Jr. to notch a third Forward Gal victory, this filly finished third in the Tempted at Aqueduct and most recently Gulfstream’s Cash Run. Daughter of Florida Derby winner Audible is proven over the track with a maiden romp here last summer. Jockey Micah Husbands rides for the first time as Irad Ortiz Jr. hops to pilot On Time Girl.

#4-MYTHICAL: Rolled to back-to-back Florida Sire Stakes series victories to close a 5-for-6 juvenile campaign. Jorge Delgado’s Florida-bred won the Tremont and Adirondack at Saratoga against open company and is 3-for-3 locally. Edgard Zayas partners in place of Emisael Jaramillo, who has moved his tack to Santa Anita.

#5-SNEAKY GOOD: Unbeaten winner of a Keeneland debut sprint and Tampa Bay Downs’ Sandpiper Stakes, both at 6 furlongs. Daughter of top stallion Into Mischief overcame a wide post and trip in her last to win with mostly a hand ride. Tyler Gaffalione rides for trainer Brad Cox, whose stable is 3: 2-1-0 in the Forward Gal, including a 1-2 finish a year ago.

#6-ON TIME GIRL: The more accomplished of the Brad Cox uncoupled duo as that barn looks to continue its Forward Gal precision strikes. Not The Time filly has won 3 of 4 and avenged her 1-length loss in Keeneland’s Myrtlewood by dusting A Fine Chardonnay in their Fern Creek Stakes rematch at Churchill Downs. Irad Ortiz Jr. rides this filly out of Pocahontas Stakes winner and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile third-place finisher Girl Daddy. Five workouts on cue since her Nov. 29 victory in Louisville.

#7-HOLLEN DRIVE: Regally bred half-sister to champion sprinter Mitole and fellow Grade 1 winner Hot Rod Charlie. She’s won 2 of 3 for trainer Will Walden, a barn fresh off a Grade 3 Christophe Clement Stakes victory last Saturday at Gulfstream. Disappointed on a wet track in Laurel’s Smart Halo, her only stakes attempt, but may be looking for a dry track to show her best. Jorge Ruiz rides the daughter of Practical Joke.

#8-IMPERATRICE: Four-time Forward Gal Stakes-winning trainer Todd Pletcher brings this Dec. 13 maiden winner back to the site of her first career success. Daughter of Pegasus World Cup and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner City of Light cuts back from a mile in which she had a rather easy trip in victory. She ran second in her debut to Pletcher stablemate With a Kiss, a highly promising Gun Runner-Cathryn Sophia blueblood who hasn’t returned since that Oct. 26 unveling.

      Most Likely Exotics Contender:
ON TIME GIRL is a length from perfection in 4 starts and never worse than second while navigating 3 different surfaces. She galloped out far in front last time and has trained right on schedule for this return spot.

      Best Longshot Contender:
MUSIC BURST should be a fair price. She's by sire Maclean’s Music, whose offspring win a strong 20% of their Gulfstream Park sprints and include elite past GP sprinter Drain the Clock.

      Sending it in ($100 bankroll):
$40 win MUSIC BURST. $30 exacta ON TIME GIRL over MUSIC BURST. $20 exacta MUSIC BURST over ON TIME GIRL. $5 exacta part-wheel and MUSIC BURST over HOLLEN DRIVE and IMPERATRICE ($10).

Scott Shapiro: Handicapper's Preview of Gulfstream's Holy Bull Stakes | Saturday, January 31, 2026

        by Scott Shapiro

After a week off on the Road to the Kentucky Derby for a Pegasus World Cup (G1) detour, the newly turned 3YOs are back on center stage. The Southwest at Oaklawn Park was postponed until next Friday and the Withers at Aqueduct is up in the air due to frigid temperatures in the Northeast, so once again Hallandale Beach will be the focus. The $275,000 Holy Bull (G3) picks things up on Gulfstream Park’s Road to the Florida Derby after the Macho Macho Man kicked things off on January 3. Here are my horse-by-horse thoughts on the Derby prep that awards 20 points to the winner on Saturday afternoon.

1-Incredibolt (pictured): Trainer Riley Mott sends out this son of Bolt d’Oro for his first start as a 3YO after a pair of impressive wins to end his 2YO season. The Pin Oak Stud colt raced against the flow in a sprint at Ellis to kick off his career and since then has done nothing wrong rattling off two straight strong finishes to win races over the Churchill Downs main track. There is no doubt Incredibolt can finish with energy, but the question is whether he is fully cranked and if he gets the setup he needs to be at his best. I will not be surprised if he takes another step forward in the Holy Bull and presents himself as a top contender for the Run for the Roses, but he may have too much to do work late in the Saturday finale. Therefore, I will pass on wagering on him this weekend with an eye towards even bigger races down the line.

2-Roger That Dana: The Florida-bred is tough to endorse on the Win end in the Holy Bull, but he could play a major factor in the outcome nonetheless. The Awesome Slew ridgling dominated a field of fellow Florida-breds on debut this fall, but has been unable to go with the winner in a pair of spots since. From a class perspective, the Luis Ramirez trainee is up against it, but he has early speed and an inside draw, which could make things more difficult for those in with a bigger chance to get to the wire first.

3-Project Ace: Trainer Dale Romans cross-listed this son of War of Will in the Withers at Aqueduct, but the Albaugh Family Stable colt has certainly showed the ability finish with serious energy thus far. The question for him is he can he find any early speed. Project Ace was well out of it early in all three starts as a 2YO, so has certainly needed things to go his way. He picked up the pieces late against a wire-to-wire winner to kick off his career and then continued to come with strong late runs against maiden fields when stretching out to two-turns. Project Ace is likely up against it in the Holy Bull since there is not a ton of early speed signed on, but if they happen to go at it early, he should be absolutely rolling late.

4-Global Aviator: Heading into Thursday, trainer Rohan Crichton was 5-14 over the last 30 days for a $4.21 ROI. The red-hot conditioner will take a swing with this first out winner by Global Campaign. Global Aviator broke poorly in his first start going 6-furlongs over this surface back in late November, but made a strong middle move and had just enough late to hang on by a neck. He has not raced since and gets thrown to the wolves in his first start against winners. He could be a factor early on the stretch out if he cleans up his gate issues, but this is a tall task for the $12,000 FTK October 2024 purchase.

5-Cannoneer: On the other side of things is this $1.75M Keeneland September 2024 purchase who returns to the races for the first time since late November for trainer Brad Cox. Cox debuted the Into Mischief colt in a live MSW event on June 1 where he let the public down after breaking awkwardly and rushing up to show speed before tiring late. Cox gave the Kentucky-bred time and he came back much more professional in his eye-popping victory at 7-furlongs in Louisville. The 7-figure purchase has been in Florida since late December and has pointed to this spot since. Like all Derby prospects in January, Cannoneer has lots of questions to answer, but this is a race he needs to win given race shape and distance if he plans to move forward and be a major player on the first Saturday in May.

6-Buetane: Will not make the trip cross-country unfortunately due to his flight to Florida being cancelled.

7-Nearly: This Florida-bred got off to a slow start in a 6-furlong event on debut in New York and had no shot from there in a race where they ran 1-2-3 around the track, but the Not This Time colt has been dominant in two races since arriving in the Sunshine State. Trainer Todd Pletcher has 2YO champion Ted Noffey gearing up for the Fountain of Youth next month, but in the meanwhile may find out he has another top contender under his care on Saturday. I have two concerns though. Firstly, Nearly has not been great from the gate. He needs to fix that obviously at some point. In terms of his chances on Saturday, I am concerned about regression. He has rattled off two big efforts in a row. Not only does he need to prove he can do similar at a route of ground, but needs to avoid a bounce off his five-length score on January 2. I will let him beat me at his likely price in this year’s Holy Bull, but certainly will not be surprised by another big run.

8-Bravaro: Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. ran 1-2 in the Pegasus World Cup last Saturday. Joseph looks to spring another upset in the feature with this New York-bred colt that enters the Holy Bull a perfect 2 for 2. The son of Upstart won both of his starts going away as a juvenile, but those efforts game against much weaker competition. That said, he comes into his first try against open company foes off a strong series of drills at Palm Meadows and should be able to avoid a wide voyage into the first turn given the scratch of Buetane to his inside. It would be a big surprise if Bravaro put in a big run on Saturday, but this barn has done it before.

9-Game for It: Bypassing the Holy Bull with his eyes on the Sam F. Davis at Tampa next week.

Unfortunately, finding value on top in the 2026 Holy Bull (G3) looks tough to achieve with one of the three logicals likely to get to the wire first. Perhaps, a horse like Project Ace can come running late to spruce up the exotics, but this is Cannoneer’s race to lose. He should find a prominent position early under Irad Ortiz and be tough to get by late if he can handle the two-turn test.

Scott Shapiro: Gulfstream Park Holy Bull Day Late Pick 4 Hit & Split | Saturday, January 31, 2026

          by Scott Shapiro

Another fantastic Saturday slate at Gulfstream Park means another worthwhile promotion at 1/ST BET and Xpressbet. After last week’s Exacta-Thon, the marketing team has turned back to a favorite of mine, the old Hit & Split. This time the late Pick 4 Hit & Split on Saturday in Hallandale Beach will be the first of four $1k promotions available throughout the weekend. Santa Anita on Saturday will follow suit with both 1/ST RACING tracks again providing horseplayers on Sunday with Hit & Splits in the late Pick 4. Just remember to register for the new promotion.

Grade Descriptions: Grade A=Highest degree of confidence; Grade B=Solid Play. Grade C=Least preferred or pass; Grade X=probable winner but likely at odds too short to play.

          Race 9:
          Grade: C+
          Main Ticket: 8 Themanupfront; 4 Mary’s Lad
Backups: 3 Ever Dangerous; 1 Profound

Forecast: This first-level allowance event over the lawn kicks off Saturday’s late Pick 4 and I am willing to toss two of the three ML favorites. The one I like most is #4 Mary’s Lad. The 4-1-second choice on Brian Nadeau’s line enters his second start of the year after a runner-up effort to a good looking off the pace runner in Pass the Hat. Trainer Whit Beckman adds the blinkers for the first time and legs up Tyler Gaffalione. Mary’s Lad is in with a huge chance if Beckman’s equipment change, leads to improved energy over the final sixteenth of a mile. I also give a big shot to #8 Themanupfront. The Coal Front gelding is unlikely to have things easy on the front end once again after battling early and tiring late on January 3. The leg up to Irad Ortiz Jr. for the first time though should lead to an improved trip for this Bobby Dibona trainee. He certainly could be good enough if one of the best riders in the world is able to avoid another duel on the backstretch.

          Race 10: Forward Gal (G3)
          Grade: B-
Main Ticket: 8 Imperatrice; 2 Tesselate; 6 On Time Girl
Backups: 7 Hollen Drive; 1 Music Burst

Forecast: The first of three stakes races to close the card and sequence is this 7-furlong dash for 3YO fillies over the main track. 9-5-ML favorite #6 On Time Girl is likely to take a lot of public support after taking a huge step forward with her dominant win in the $225k Fern Creek at Churchill Downs to end her 2YO season. The Albaugh Family Stables homebred has been given time since by trainer Brad Cox and is the one to beat, but things could be contentious on the front end. If so, there are a pair of fillies I give a chance to spring the upset. #2 Tesselate enters the Forward Gal off a pair of wins from a few lengths off the pace for Saffie Joseph. She faces the toughest field of her career in this spot, but has the right running style to take advantage of the probable race shape assuming she is able to relax early along the inside. I also give a big chance to #8 Imperatrice. The $500k daughter of City of Light has done little wrong thus far and moves from an inside draw to the far outside. This should allow John Velazquez to stalk in the clear just off the early leaders. With a less stressful trip, Imperatrice should be full of run late on the cutback to seven-eighths.

          Race 11: Sweetest Chant
          Grade: B
Main Ticket: 3 Brat Pack; 10 Aggressive Lime
          Backups: 7 Bert’s Knoty Girl

Forecast: The final turf race of the afternoon is for 3YO fillies at 1 1/16-miles where there does not appear to be a lot of early speed signed on. I will lean on a pair of gals that have some ability and should not be too far off a likely moderate first half-mile. I landed on #3 Brat Pack on top. Trainer Graham Motion has meant business thus far at the Championship Meet and one of his victories came with Brat Pack on Christmas Eve. The Gun Runner filly showed tactical speed out of the gate that afternoon, but settled mid-pack before making a winning three-wide move on the far turn under strong turf rider Jorge Ruiz. With an inside draw this time and an overall lack of early zip entered, I expect Ruiz to have this homebred in a prominent spot early. I also expect #10 Aggressive Lime to be ridden aggressively out of the gate. The daughter of Authentic retains the services of Irad Ortiz Jr. and has been freshened after besting a field of allowance foes in November. Her tactical speed should allow Irad to avoid significant ground loss early. Hopefully, one of these two or long shot #7 Bert’s Knoty Girl is good enough to take down 2-1-ML favorite #8 Sister Troienne. The Brian Lynch trainee has rattled off 4 in a row, but is going to get tested on Saturday afternoon.

          Race 12: Holy Bull (G3)
          Grade: B
          Main Ticket: 5 Cannoneer
          Backups: None

Forecast: I am all in on #5 Cannoneer in this 20-points to the winner Kentucky Derby prep to close the afternoon. The $1.75M Keeneland September 2024 purchase was dominant off the bench in his second career start going 7-furlongs in late November. Brad Cox has had him in Florida pointing to this spot since. The Into Mischief colt should be able to use his early speed to make the front or sit just off the early pace. From there, expect him to stamp himself as a serious player on the Derby Trail for a barn that has made the Sunshine State one of its main homes in the winter the last couple of years. For a horse-by-horse analysis of the Holy Bull, check out my “Handicapper’s Preview of Gulfstream’s Holy Bull Stakes” blog from Thursday morning.

          Good luck!

Jeremy Plonk: Tampa Bay Downs Saturday Pick 4 Analysis

            by Jeremy Plonk

Tampa Bay Downs has a pair of turf stakes co-features on Saturday and I’ll weave surrounding plays around those for a late pick 4 that is rather focused in terms of coverage.

            Race 6: maiden

Promising group of 3-year-old fillies led by rookie raiders #6 Sorokin for Saffie Joseph and #1 Current Yield for Chad Brown. Logical debut-placed local runners #10 Princess Vekoma and #4 Sammytrindamo were both well-backed at first asking and ran well enough to back again.

Race 7: Grade 3 Tampa Bay Stakes

#3 Quatrocento (pictured) appears to have a pace advantage and could wire this group under Julien Leparoux, who has been very good on these types over his career. #6 Win for the Money has a lot of class to fall back on as a middle-distance turf specialist.

            Race 8: allowance

In what should be an either-or kind of race, #9 Disruptor returns from 10 months away and showed obvious talent to open his career before being sidelined. But #10 Littler Thunder was fantastic at first asking over the track and distance, wiring the field and putting more than 11 lengths on the third-place finisher. The pace doesn’t look overwhelming, so I’ll take him right back to outfoot the Pletcher “name” invader.

            Race 9: Endeavor Stakes

Jockey Ben Curtis was one of the most profitable riders to back in 2025 stakes races and I love seeing him head to Tampa to ride #5 Aussie Girl for Will Walden. Perfectly spaced workout tab since being forced out of the race in December makes her fresh and fit. #11 Public Defender got too far behind a ridiculously fast pace last time but should be closer to the hunt in what projects a far, far more modest tempo. The outside post could spell ground loss. The speed could come from #10 Starship Impulsive, and the outside draw here feels less a hindrance given her running style. She should clear the others inside her in the initial stages coming out of the inner turf chute and onto the main course.

            The Ticket:

            6,1,10,3 with 3,6 with 10 with 5,10,11 = $12 for each $.50 play

Scott Shapiro: Santa Anita Spot Plays | Saturday, January 31, 2026

              by Scott Shapiro

They are back in action once again this afternoon at the Great Race Place after kicking off the racing week with an 8-race card yesterday. The 9-race slate is headlined by a pair of graded stakes, as well as a pair of maiden special weights for 3YOs over the second half of the day. Here are a few horses I like most later today at Santa Anita Park.

              Race 3:

There is not a lot of speed at all signed on in this $25k non-winners of two life time at one-mile over the grass, which should benefit #1 Exington. The daughter of Hard Spun went too fast early going a 1 1/8-miles on December 29 and tired on her own to finish fourth against a few of her rivals today. The difference hopefully is the turnback to eight furlongs. Edwin Maldonado has been on board the last three starts and returns to ride this afternoon. If he can ration out Exington’s speed a little more on the backstretch, she should have enough to get to the wire first.

              Play: #1 Exington (5-1 ML)

              Race 4: San Pasqual (G2)

The first of two graded stakes races on the agenda is this 9-furlong test for 4YOs and up over the main track where I am willing to take a swing against both morning line favorites. 9-5-top choice #5 Pony Express has run some big races, but his barn is cold and he clearly has issues of some sort preventing him to put back-to-back races together. 2-1-second choice #3 Getaway Car competed in some big races early in his career, but has never wowed me making his likely price impossible to swallow. #4 Bartholdy will have to work out a trip in order to get the added distance, but comes into the race in the best form of his career for trainer Steve Knapp. He tried to the wire against two serious Baffert runners in the Laffit Pincay Jr. (G2) to close his 4YO campaign and should be set for another big run in his second stakes try.

              Play: #4 Bartholdy (4-1 ML)

              Race 8

This first-level allowance at the tricky 6.5-furlong distance marks the 2026 debut of #5 Cornucopian. The $1.1M Keeneland September 2023 purchase wowed everyone with his dominant win on debut at Oaklawn Park, but did not get back to that effort in his two tries versus winners last spring. He was set to return in the Malibu (G1), but was forced to scratch shortly prior to post time in late December. Trainer Bob Baffert takes the blinkers off for the first time, which suggests his colt is relaxing better in the mornings, but he is still hard to trust at his likely price, so I will try to get him late with #2 Red Flag. The 8YO gelding has won 8 career races, including last out in his first start off the claim for Jeff Mullins when he was bet down to 2-1-favoritism and was absolutely loaded late when taking advantage of a favorable setup to score by two. He continues to try hard far more often than not and should get another contentious pace to run at in the first half of the late Double.

Play: #2 Red Flag (6-1 ML)

Gulfstream Park Hotlist - January 31

By Bob Ehalt and Matt Shifman

                Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches in the final 3 minutes and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
                * - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (6) Resort drops into a claimer and may wake up here. (10) Eternal Mandate drops and gets a nice rider switch to Irad. (4) Mis Brunellas should fare better on turf. (3) Blazing Bridgette may be helped by a quick pace. Betting strategy: 6 to win, place. Exacta box: 3-4-6-10.

3rd race – (1) Noble J gets some added distance here but will be helped by a rail trip. (2) Awesome Beast comes off a nice second and should be a top threat. (4) Roar Ready is capable of a better effort here. (7) Thirty Pound Test is dangerous off a win in his last race. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2-4-7.

5th race – (2) Alpyland seeks a fourth straight win and shapes up as the one to beat. (5) Thousandsticks should be a threat in his stakes debut. (6) Turf Star cannot be ignored in this field. (4) Glorious Boy may be closing quickly at the end. Betting strategy: 2 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-5-6.

8th race – (6) Solitude Dude has romped in both career starts. Should remain undefeated here. (5) Diciassette seems ready for his 3-year-old debut. (1) Class President looked sharp in his debut win. Betting strategy: 6 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-5-6.

10th race – (6) On Time Girl closed out her 2-year-old season with a win and can resume her winning ways here. (8) Imperatrice looked good in a maiden win and should be main contender. (2) Tessellate chases a third straight won and should not be overlooked. (3) Secane seems like the one to catch here. Betting strategy: 6 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-3-6-8.

By Bob Ehalt and Matt Shifman

The $275,000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3), Gulfstream Park, Race 12, 5:45 p.m. Eastern

                  (7) Nearly makes his stakes debut off two impressive wins. Seems well-bred for the two-turn distance and gets the nod here. (8) Bavaro is undefeated in two starts and looks like the main rival. (5) Cannoneer exploded for a big win last time and should be a factor here. (6) Buetane ships in from California and will be dangerous on his best try. Betting strategy: 7 to win. Exacta and trifecta box: 5-6-7-8.

COMMENTS: TOMS MAGIC has a pair of his best workouts prepping for today. WIN FOR THE MONEY has definitely faced and beaten better. QUATROCENTO ran the highest last race speed figure and is the most likely to win gate to wire. SPELLCAST is a longshot that has two wins and a close second in three at the distance.

COMMENTS: CANDY QUEST will be rolling late and that Tampa stretch drive feels like forever. AL JAFARA has some of the best turf breeding and is another that will drive home hard. PUBLIC DEFENDER won three of four at the distance and has second start upside. AUSSIE GIRL is highly consistent with excellent grass credentials.

COMMENTS: GETAWAY CAR will go to the front for trainer Bob Baffert and try to stay there. BARTHOLDY finished in the money eight of eight at Santa Anita. PONY EXPRESS wins this with ease at his best but first up outings have been his worst races. WESTWOOD showed elite late pace in his last but tends to fall just a little short at the end.

COMMENTS: MY PERFECT WAVE won two in a row and could be better in the second up. GOING LUCKY won big last out in her first on Santa Anita and has room for more. PRINCESA MOCHE will likely sit off the pace and try to bring it home late. PUBLIC ASSEMBLY is a consistent closer that is all or nothing at Santa Anita with two wins in four tries.

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #5 - Post: 2:25pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $23,500 Class Rating: 67

                              Rating:

#6 THEY CALL ME SUE (ML=4/1)
                              #10 CHANCE ON ME (ML=20/1)

THEY CALL ME SUE - I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run his best in the 3rd or 4th start back. Have to give this gelding a good shot. Ran a nice effort last race out within the last month or so. Gets help from Wilson with the addition of Lasix. This gelding is number one in earnings per race. Give the once over to this animal before the race. CHANCE ON ME - The January 18th race at Tampa Bay Downs was at a class level of (72). Dropping down the class scale considerably, so he should be in a good place. It looks like Casique had to become familiar with this gelding on January 18th when riding him for the initial time. Back atop again today. Have to give this gelding a chance. Ran a sharp outing last time around the track within the last thirty days.

                              Vulnerable Contenders: #2 GIGGITY (ML=2/1), #8 PEPPAPETE (ML=7/2), #11 SIM SALA BIM (ML=6/1),

GIGGITY - Morning line odds of 2/1 make this horse a pass by my examination. PEPPAPETE - This steed will in all probability be way back as this field crosses the finish. SIM SALA BIM - No good results for this steed in a sprint race over the last couple months tells me that this colt is in a formidable spot This colt hasn't been showing me anything positive in the last couple of races. When examining today's class figure, he will have to garner a much better speed rating than last time around the track to compete in this dirt sprint.
