    BRIAN W. SPENCER'S DAILY PICKS

    Mahoning Valley - Race #2
#4 Ryu Mo He showed a little life when getting out of those tougher circuits, and this softer bunch might be all he needs to get over the top.
#2 Lookin Like Lucky He has had a lot of chances, including several at these cheaper levels, but he's still got honest enough form to think he can share -- a win wouldn't be a shock, he's just tough to trust.
#5 Scaredy Catness Something like that last one might fit here, and he should find a good spot right up on the splits with this crew. Lots to like.
Race Summary Ryu Mo hung around a bit better last time out, and I'm hoping he stacks up nicely with the local crew at this level.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #8
#7 Comida Comida Taking a bit of a reach here, but she's better than she showed last time out against a tougher bunch, and she owns a couple competitive starts on her page. Could outrun the price.
#5 Big Ginger She wouldn't be a surprise with some sharp speed and a class edge on a handful of these, but she probably takes a little bit of cash along the way.
#3 The Shoe Lady She has a lot of tough lines on her page, and she's quick enough to keep Big Ginger in her sights throughout. Has drilled horses like this before.
Race Summary Comida Comida should be a solid number on the board, and she has a few back starts that are interesting with this group.
    Mahoning Valley - Race #9
#9 Ashlee's Ring She's not too far removed from being a fairly cheap one, so the drop doesn't feel too panicky on principle after the flat comeback run with better. Outside draw should produce a dreamy prompting trip.
#2 Vitaemi She has competitive enough form, but she has given away ground late in every race on her page, and that's not a comforting sign knowing that she's going to have to turn away the top choice first.
#5 Bel Aria Don't love her that much in here, but I do think she's better than she showed last time out, and the price should be right -- something back on her baseline puts her in the picture.
Race Summary Ashlee's Ring has a class edge here and brings some reasonable upside in the second start back. Should handle these.

      FRANK CARULLI'S DAILY PICKS

      Parx - Race #2
#2 FIVE NINE FIFTY (12-1) Must stay in closer contact with the favorites early, worth a price shot.
#8 LOVE AND KISSES (6-1) Pair of troubled starts after debut romp, also projects good trip.
#5 HALA BLUE (4-1) Nice :47.2 breeze over track for her first start off Pino claim.
Race Summary FIVE NINE FIFTY left too much work to do in a crowded 6F sprint at this level last out, but she gets in light and gets plenty of pace to run at if she breaks better. The price is right for a win and place bet and a 2-5-8 exacta box.
      Parx - Race #3
#7 IT’S GAME TIME (7-2) Still going strong as 10yo season begins, pocketed $322k at 1-1/16 miles.
#3 ADMIRAL’S WAVE (5-2) One of two Lake claims in here has solid Beyers, rallied mildly in ‘key’ race.
#2 ASSEMBLY POINT (10-1) Bided his time before making 12th winning move at this distance.
Race Summary IT’S GAME TIME followed the move of the winning favorite while 4-wide on the final turn, then gave up the chase at the 16th pole and got caught for second. The classy 10-year-old sustained a rally into a slower pace for his 16th win at this distance two back. Bet to win and place and play 7-2 and 7-3 exactas.
      Parx - Race #5
#2 MOOR STRENGTH (2-1) Often in contention, seldom wins, no excuse in this field for new barn.
#3 SHOCK (5-1) Factored for this far in pair or recent long-distance tests, adds blinkers.
#5 BE MY QUEEN (5-2) Lightly-raced 5-year-old seeks third consecutive sprint victory.
Race Summary MOOR STRENGTH bid to a brief lead at the stretch call but fell to 3-for-36 as the beaten favorite. She catches a weak field off the claim at the same level and her race two back featured the likes of Popover Gal (6-20, $152k) and Ambitiously Placed (19-70, $468k). Bet to win and place and play 2-3 and 2-5 exactas.

Race 3 - Maiden Claiming - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $11000 Class Rating: 46

FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 118 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $7,500.
            RECOMMENDED CHOICES

            # 5 TRISH 3/1
            # 2 OH MY VRON 8/1
I lean toward BOUGIE LIKE here. With Huckaby in the saddle guiding her, this mare should be able to break out early here. The average Equibase class figure alone makes this horse a key contender. TRISH - This field is much easier than the last one she was up against. OH MY VRON - Looks very good for the conditions of this race today, showing solid figs in dirt sprint races recently.

QUARTER HORSE 330Y, FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 126 LBS.; OLDER, 128 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $10,000. LOUISIANA BRED CLAIMING PRICE $12,500.
              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 7 TEE PRAIRIE 5/1
              # 8 NOSABENADA 4/1
              # 3 THE FLAME 20/1
I think TEE PRAIRIE is a solid choice. The Lasix change (with second time Lasix) may spark a comeback for this gelding. Bustamante has shown excellent profits (+12 return on investment ) at this distance/surface. As of late Edison has been on fire which may give the edge to this gelding. NOSABENADA - Should compete admirably in the early speed clash which bodes well with this group of animals. The extreme drop in company can only help this horse this time around. THE FLAME - Don't let this gelding slip past you. Could win at high odds. Expect this pony to be close at the finishing post versus these horses.

                Parx Racing - Race #6 - Post: 2:20pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $26,000 Class Rating: 70

                Rating:

                #3 PENN FRANKLIN (ML=3/1)
                #5 TEN PLUS TEN (ML=15/1)

PENN FRANKLIN - Wyner drops him down to this level. You don't need too much more handicapping information to think this one has a good chance at this level. Searching through the past performances for this race, I noted right away this animal's last effort was more than meets the eye. Showed good zip, fell back, and then ran evenly. TEN PLUS TEN - Nunez is right back for another affair today after getting on board this horse for the 1st ride on January 5th and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. Looking at today's class rating, this campaigner is encountering an easier field than last out at Parx Racing. The addition of the 'shades' usually means that a trainer wants a pony to show more early zip or to keep his attention focused.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 LION IN THE SUN (ML=9/5), #1 UP THE KINGDOM (ML=5/2),

LION IN THE SUN - Tough to put your money on the win end of any horse that finishes second and third as often as this participant does. No wins for this horse at Parx Racing. UP THE KINGDOM - Hasn't hit the board in any short distance contests recently. Not likely to see him doing it in today's event either. Hard to play any horse to turn things around if there is no reward to taking the shot.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 PENN FRANKLIN is going to be the play if we are getting 7/5 or better
                EXACTA WAGERS: Box [3,5]

                  Turf Paradise - Race #4 - Post: 2:37pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,000 Class Rating: 93

                  Rating:

                  #7 PRINCE PRANCEALOT (ML=7/2)
                  #1 UPRIGHT (ML=8/1)

PRINCE PRANCEALOT - Don't often see a lucrative ROI like +177. This jock/trainer duo has done well together over the last twelve months. UPRIGHT - This gelding is a gem of consistency, almost always in the top three. This thoroughbred coming off a good try in the last month is a contender in my opinion.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #2 SIR BREGOVIC (ML=5/2), #6 GODSEND (ML=9/2), #4 TRACK ROBBER (ML=5/1),

SIR BREGOVIC - Jan 18th is the last time we've seen this gelding around. Have to be a little bit leery. Tough to put your dough on this oft beaten chalk. Not much value. Disappointing speed rating last out at Sunland Park at 6 1/2 furlongs. Don't feel this vulnerable equine will improve too much in today's event. GODSEND - Pace makes the race. Hard for this speedball to be able to manage the early pressure from the rest of this bunch. TRACK ROBBER - Tough for anyone who saw this horse in his last clash to wager on him this time. This gelding recorded a speed fig in his last race which likely isn't good enough in today's race.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #7 PRINCE PRANCEALOT on the win end if we get at least 3/2 odds
                  EXACTA WAGERS: Box [1,7]
                  TRIFECTA WAGERS: Pass

IDEALSOMEMAGIC A unquestionably seems to be the standardbred to beat in here. The handicapping team knows that speed is King in harness racing. This standardbred will unlock our way to a nice win. Many analyzers will recognize the amazing speed rating in the last race. Stacks up against any horse in this pack. Take a long look at making this horse your win wager based on excellent win percentage alone. IMA HAPPY FELLA GB - The trainer Green has a knack with this gelding, regularly cashing in their races. Might be there at a nice price tag. Most definitely one to keep in your exotics. GOLD STAR SVEN - The knowledge group gives this solid standardbred a really good chance to take this race, class rankings are tops in the field. The 1 hole is on fire here at Monticello Raceway. More wins than normal.

                        # 4 RISKY HILL 3/1
Feel pretty confident putting cash down on UNCLE MONEYBAGS. Feel the need for speed, this fine animal has been turning in some outstanding TrackMaster speed figs averaging around 77. The 5 position is on fire here at Miami Valley. More wins than you would expect. ROSE RUN ARCH - Could surprise us at a nice price. Don't leave out. RISKY HILL - The 4 hole sports a much better than average win percentage at Miami Valley. This standardbred may have some hidden form, a win would be a pleasant surprise.
