Scott Shapiro: Bet $50, Get $10 Tampa/Turfway Promo Picks | Wednesday, February 11, 2026

Another midway point of the week is approaching, which means another chance at our Wednesday Wins promotion. For those who missed it during the first few opportunities, it is simple. Just register for the promo, wager $50 each on Tampa Bay Downs and Turfway Park on Wednesday, and earn a $10 bonus. I have been taking part at both mid-week tracks on “Hump Day” to start 2026 when mother nature has cooperated and plan to do so again tomorrow building around these horses.


Tampa Bay Downs Race 8, 4:20 pm ET

My top play in Oldsmar comes in this $16k conditional claimer at two-turns over the grass where there is not very much early speed signed on. I am hopeful #4 Mr. Business can take advantage. The son of Flameaway broke his maiden in his first start off the layoff on January 7 for new trainer Francisco Alanis before being beaten to the lead and caught a bit wide in his first try against winners just 17 days later. Alanis drops this 4YO gelding in class into a spot where jockey Marcos Meneses should be able to control the early tempo. Hopefully, he has enough left late to put this group away in his third start of the form cycle.

Turfway Park Race 4, 7:25 pm ET

I am also hoping the pace is moderate later on tomorrow in this open $5k claimer at 6-furlongs where I like a price. #4 Takethesilver makes her third start of the meet for trainer Roddina Barrett after a fourth-place run versus better on New Years’ Day. Barrett puts the blinkers on for the first time and keeps veteran Martin Garcia aboard. Garcia’s best skill has always been his ability to get horses out of the gate and then relax them on the lead. I am hopeful he can do just that with this Take Charge Indy mare that is in search of her first victory over this surface. The price should be right to gamble on her to win and play a Daily Double into my play of the day up next.

Turfway Park Race 5, 7:55 pm ET

A number of 3YO fillies entered in this auction restricted MSW at 6-furlongs exit a similar race at half a furlong farther on January 9. This not only includes 7-2-second choice #1Edey, but also my top choice #10 Golden Thread. The daughter of City of Light showed decent tactical speed on debut going the challenging 6.5-furlong distance at odds of over 21-1 and battled to the wire to finish second beaten just half a length. Trainer Eoin Harty legs up Alex Achard this time around. Hopefully, Achard can avoid serious ground loss from the outside draw. If so, I like this gal’s chances to take a big step forward in her second lifetime start.

3^rd race [OC 100K/N1X, 7F] – (4) Igniter was a fast winner of his second start in September after pressing the pace going a mile. He returns from a sixth in the Remsen (G2) on the Derby trail. (1) Hedge Ratio was a clear front-end winner of his maiden in November against a field of nine where the second-place finisher was a return winner. (2) Tartabull won a Maryland-bred maiden in his third start and then was third in a state-bred stakes. (5) Hong Kong Phooey won a $75,000 maiden claimer in October and then three weeks ago was third in a starter allowance.

4^th race [NY, OC 45k/N2X, 1 mi] – (6) Three B’s stretched out to a mile and rallied to win the first-level allowance for NY-breds by eight-lengths for Linda Rice. (4) Shadow Dragon was claimed two races back in a similar spot and then tried to step up against open company. (7) Shared Successnotched his eighth career victory when he rallied to get up by a neck in a $35,000 claimer. (1) Hagrid’s Flamehas been racing at Parx where he won the second-level allowance and now returns to face NY-breds for the claiming option.

7^th race [Md Sp Wt, 6 ? F] – (4) Pretty Boy Miah (A) was sent off at 8-5 in his debut at Aqueduct on Jan. 1 where he pressed the pace, had the lead, and finished a hard fought second 20 lengths ahead of the rest. (3) Felonious hit the board in all three of his starts while pressing the pace twice as the favorite and gets blinkers on. (1) Complex Charlie was fourth in both of his races and could improve here. (8) Easy Decisionshows a few fast workouts in preparation for his first start for Amelia Green and Repole Stable.

9^th race [Md 20000, 7F] – (8) Kid Rich(A) moved to the barn of Linda Rice and ran twice as a heavy favorite. Last time he set the pace, finished third, and bled. He has been off since December and comes back with Lasix. (11) Tinseltown dropped down to this level last month and pressed the pace to finish third. (6) Introubleagain also appreciated the drop to this level and the move back to dirt and had his best result when he carried his speed to miss by a half-length. (14) Winston D comes back as a new gelding after a pair of fourth-place finishes.

Best bets: Igniter (3^rd); Pretty Boy Miah (7^th). Best value: Three B’s (4^th); Kid Rich (9^th).

TAKE YOUR MEDICINE - I figure that this race's shorter distance should help this gelding. Pimental brings him right back. I advocate you stick with this strong gelding. SPONGE TIME - I expect this mount to surprise some folks this time. PROFITABILITY - The jockey and handler combination have a profitable return on investment when they team up. Marquez was aboard this gelding in the last race and was impressed enough to take the animal right back. A repeat of that last effort on Jan 11th where he registered a speed figure of 71 looks high enough to score in this race. This gelding is in excellent form right now. Ended up second last time around the track and comes back quickly.

He should improve right here without the off-track conditions. AGNELLO'S DREAM - Skerrett is up for another race today after sitting atop this horse for the first ride on Jan 22nd and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. This gelding is in nice condition, having run a good race on January 22nd, finishing second. This horse picks up a lot of money per race. In the top spot in this event. This gelding's last speed fig is good enough to win here, I'll invest in him back again this time.
