    BRIAN W. SPENCER'S DAILY PICKS

    Fair Grounds - Race #7
#4 Original Sin He's got pretty honest finishing form and got over the track nicely in the score last time out. Think he finds a decent enough spot today without getting totally outrun early.
#8 Tarantino The last couple haven't been much, but he has run in nine consecutive graded stakes tries and wouldn't be a surprise here on class relief alone.
#6 Lure Him In Tactical speed should be in a really good spot into the far turn, but I think there are enough lines on his page that suggest he might be vulnerable to getting picked up late.
Race Summary Original Sin looks like a threat right back after a solid score over the local course last month, and I am going to assume he'll hold his form after just that third start off the long break.
    Fair Grounds - Race #8
#5 Big Scully His last two have been hard fades in the lane, but he's probably quickest early in a group that may not have too many other forward/prompting types lined up. Could rebound at a price on the engine.
#2 Captivating Star He's got reliable form and makes a lot of sense in here, but he's mostly an honest baseline runner who doesn't typically jump up with bigger efforts outside of that -- someone else might.
#7 Southscape Finisher would benefit if one or two of these forced the issue with Big Scully early and ensured a solid tempo, but I think you can at least expect this guy to show up with his regular offering, even if it's too late to land it.
Race Summary Big Scully has a couple of sharp pace tries on his page, and I'm hoping he can bounce back today after a couple of dull runs.
    Fair Grounds - Race #9
#4 Gatsby'sgreenlight She might like the longer stretch here after turning in an OK effort when going a mile at Delta last time out, and I'm hoping she's just tactical enough to avoid getting outrun on a mild pace.
#6 Promesa Divina She hasn't been able to stay with much enthusiasm in her four starts, but she took some heat early last time out and does not appear to be meeting any kind of other serious pace. She has to be on the multi-race plays as controlling tempo in a cheap spot.
#2 Speed Skater I dunno -- she drops for a top team after a no-show debut effort on the turf while getting blinkers for this one, but the price is going to get short by default. Maybe she airs this group, but I'm not that excited to find out at an unappealing number.
Race Summary Gatsby'sgreenlight got past some horses late at Delta last out when trying a mile on the main, and I think that kind of run might translate well enough in a suspect local spot. If the pace stops and the Cox horse doesn't pick up -- she might inherit it in the lane at an OK price.

      FRANK CARULLI'S DAILY PICKS

      Penn National - Race #1
#7 INTER MIAMI (5-2) Finished first or second 6 of last 7 starts for a $4,000-$5,000 claiming tag.
#4 RIDLEY PARK (2-1) Two photo-finish wins, steady form in second half of 2025 for this barn.
      #1 WARRIOR’S CAUSE (6-1) Consistent form, four-time runner-up for $4k, beaten fave last out.
Race Summary INTER MIAMI is 3-for-10 since last May. The rest of the field was 5-for-65 in 2025. Couple that with a class drop and the classy 9-year-old gets the call for a win and place bet. Also play 7-1 and 7-4 exactas.
      Penn National - Race #3
#6 STONE’S THROW (6-1) Drops, wears blinkers, posted encouraging work after 7 months away.
#9 UNCLE MONEY (7-2) Often in the winning hunt, starts fresh off claim by Kulp.
#1 WHERE’S MY CHEW (5-2) Piling up checks, burning a lot of money, cuts back to 5-1/2F for first time.
Race Summary STONE’S THROW has tactical speed, good company lines and a :35-3/5 workout for his return from a long layoff. Could he be a stone’s throw from the winners’ circle on the class plunge? Bet to win and place and play 6-1 and 6-9 exactas.
      Penn National - Race #4
#2 JAKE ROCKS (5-1) Well-beaten in last two tries for $10k, still merits respect off gaudy resume.
#3 FIVE DREAMS (5-2) Drops to half of claim level, troubled starts have been a problem.
#7 ONEOFTHEGOODGUYS (2-1) Consistency, win at this level, put him on brink of six-figure bankroll.
Race Summary JAKE ROCKS, now 10 years old, won 4 of his last 6 starts in the lower-level claiming ranks to prove he had something left. The $500,000 earner romped in a 5-horse field at 6F and repeated on the class rise from post 10 at Parx, but he was no factor in a faster-paced long sprint at this level. Bet to win and place and play a 2-3-7 exacta box.

                Aqueduct - Race #5 - Post: 3:12pm - Claiming - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $27,500 Class Rating: 78

                Rating:

                #8 TAMMY'S CRUISER (ML=8/1)
                #6 SPIRIT OF ESTHER (ML=2/1)
                #7 BLUE EYED SCOUT (ML=6/1)

TAMMY'S CRUISER - You'll be generating money right and left by turning your racing money onto this jockey/conditioner combination. This animal has the pace, and no one may be able to keep up with her. Mare got a healthy fig last time she tried this distance. That number would be good enough to win today. Always watch out for the longer priced animal when a trainer has an 'uncoupled' entry in a race. SPIRIT OF ESTHER - I'm anticipating this race horse to run a big race this time around. BLUE EYED SCOUT - You have to really like that recent race fig, 56, which is the best most recent race speed rating of this field.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #4 TAKE ME TO LONDYN (ML=3/1), #5 CARA'S CHIANTI (ML=8/1), #10 CALLING AN AUDIBLE (ML=8/1),

TAKE ME TO LONDYN - This filly has already been defeated as the public's top choice twice in a row. Hard to give her another chance. CARA'S CHIANTI - Today's contest is 7 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a sprint affair in the last 60 days. Not the greatest of signs. CALLING AN AUDIBLE - A pattern of dropping speed figs 64/51/41 for this pony. Difficult to play any steed in a short distance affair if she hasn't hit the board in a sprint in the last couple of months.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #8 TAMMY'S CRUISER on the win end if we get at least 5/2 odds
                EXACTA WAGERS: 8 with [6,7]
TRIFECTA WAGERS: Box [6,7,8] Total Cost: $6

QUARTER HORSE 350Y, FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 125 LBS.
                  RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                  # 3 BOBS SPEEDYSAINTJESS 6/1
                  # 6 HICLASS FAMOUS ONE 3/1
                  # 10 NOT ANY DYNASTY 4/1
BOBS SPEEDYSAINTJESS is my choice. Has competitive speed figures and has to be considered for a bet for this event. Will almost certainly come out strong - I have liked the way this gelding has moved quickly to the lead recently. With a very strong 73 speed rating last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this affair. HICLASS FAMOUS ONE - She has been running solidly and the Equibase Speed Figures are among the top in this field. Always good to invest in a handler with this kind of strong win percentage - 16 percent - at this distance & surface.

                    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                    # 2 INTANGIBLE 5/1
                    # 9 MIGHTY NORA 7/2
                    # 4 SISSY SOX 4/1
I've got to go with INTANGIBLE. Is worth careful consideration and may be a wager - strong Equibase Speed Figures (70 average) at today's distance and surface as of late. This filly could improve on Lasix. She has been travelling well lately while recording strong Equibase speed figs.MIGHTY NORA - May best this group of animals here, showing quite good figures of late. Has a solid shot here if you like back class. SISSY SOX - Earned a sound speed figure in the most recent race. Can run another good one in this contest. There is a strong chance that this entry's late pace will improve with second time Lasix.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #2 - Post: 12:43pm - Claiming -6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,400 Class Rating: 45

                      Rating:

                      #7 STICK AROUND (ML=3/1)
                      #2 SMARTASSET (ML=5/1)

STICK AROUND - Taking a trip down the ladder based on class; has the power to make her presence felt. You may want to ignore that last event at Mahoning Valley Race Cour in the mud where she finished off the board. Should do well in this event on a fast track. SMARTASSET - My handicapping know-how tells me to be on the alert for this horse in this event

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #5 DIANNA'S LADY (ML=9/5), #6 NO NAPPING (ML=5/2),

DIANNA'S LADY - Would have to move up off that fifth place finish last time to make an impact here. NO NAPPING - While Equibase's speed ratings are solid, I would seriously discount the high one from the Jan 13th on the mud. Some entries just run well on the off going.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Put your money on #7 STICK AROUND on the nose if you can get odds of 2/1 or more

DC BATGIRL will not be denied the victory in this event. Could very well provide us a victory based on very good recent speed figs - earning an avg of 87. Seems to have a formidable class edge based on the entrants she has raced against. Had one of the most favorable speed ratings of the pack in her last affair. I'd recommend using in your wagers. GALLEYS IMAGE - Excellent winning rate makes this solid standardbred an excellent selection to take home the dough. May be the most competitive in the race here, showing formidable numbers of late. Avg speed is a solid 82. ALWAYS A CARD - This entrant and Stewart have a very good relationship. In the money figure for this tandem is high.

After thorough analysis by the consortium, GARDYS LEGACY A comes out as the top pick. Can't overlook based on speed figures which have been outstanding (77 avg) recently. Seems to have a formidable class edge based on the competition he has raced against. Merton is racking up the wins lately. Amazing win percent makes this horse our pick. FOX VALLEY INFERNO - Hands down the best hole at Monticello Raceway is the 1. The win pct is great. Many expert selectors know speed is is key. This contender has credentials with a 71 average figure. SAFENSOUND HANOVER - With a formidable 68 TrackMaster Speed Rating last time out, will surely be a factor in this race. Top driver-trainer tandem, with one of the best ROI percents in this group of horses.
