    BRIAN W. SPENCER'S DAILY PICKS

    Charles Town - Race #3
#8 Camp Crystal Lake The move back around one turn might wake him up a bit after the flat try going longer last time out. Even kind of run from the outside might play well here.
#4 Mark of Greatness He finished ahead of the top choice when they met recently, and his better stuff stacks up well here despite the page full of mainly dull races with better. Capable.
#2 Punxadonny Fresh face debuts in a reasonable spot and isn't meeting anything particularly formidable on paper, even for the level. Check him out.
Race Summary Camp Crystal Lake looks interesting enough here while turning back off the mild run last time out, but I think his baseline sprint run is competitive with this group at a midrange price.
    Charles Town - Race #6
#1 Dribbledrive Get a look at him on the track and tote ahead of this, but there doesn't appear to be much depth of form in this race, so he might be able to make some noise right out of the box.
#5 Speedy Sammy He woke up nicely when trying this level for the first time, and he's got the pace to stay in the picture from the start again tonight. The one to beat.
#6 Mustwinagenda Liked the improvement last time out that at least kept him in the picture with Speedy Sammy, and something similar to that might be enough to put him in the picture again.
Race Summary Dribbledrive goes first time out in a spot that runs through Speedy Sammy on paper, but if that guy can't see this out, then a fresh face might.
    Charles Town - Race #7
#4 Nola Boss Think the local form is pretty compelling, as he has caught a couple of OK winners in the last two and should find a good spot tracking the pace again here.
#3 Im the Director Don't always trust him to back up a good run -- he has a habit of stepping back off scores -- but his general form fits well here, and he should find a good trip while sitting close throughout.
#6 Ozone His honest finishing form always makes him a threat to pick some of them up late, and he figures to show up with another reliable effort for at least a piece again. Your call if he's getting over the top tonight.
Race Summary Nola Boss might be an OK price in here while bringing decent form, and he has some pace to force the issue early on in a spot without a ton of committed early burn.

      FRANK CARULLI'S DAILY PICKS

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #1
#7 JOHNNY BOLT (4-1) Dueled into defeat off layoff in longer sprint dominated by closers.
#6 DAVE DID IT (12-1) Yet to run back to top speed figure four starts ago, lures Camacho.
#9 VINO’S VALENTINE (6-5 Best numbers, lone out-of-money try in last nine starts was from post 9.
Race Summary JOHNNY BOLT pressed the pace between rivals until the stretch before the deep closers ran past the favorite. He shortens up for his second start off a five-month layoff and broke his maiden from just off the pace, where he could be sitting today. Bet to win and place and play a 6-7-9 exacta box.
Tampa Bay Downs - Race #2
#1 I’M MISCHIEVOUS (5-1) Hard duels at 7F took their toll but prepared him well for a 6F sprint today.
#7 BALL OF FIRE (2-1) Gets class relief, gets in light for third start of cycle, but plagued by bad starts.
#5 IF I CAN DREAM (8-5) Arrives in top form at maiden-breaking distance, starts for new connections.
Race Summary I’M MISCHIEVOUS dueled to the stretch in his last two starts but was no match for the short-priced repeat winner. He finished behind a couple of his main rivals today but could turn the tables on the cutback to a short sprint. Bet to win and place and play 1-5 and 1-7 exactas.
Tampa Bay Downs - Race #7
#8 SECRET VICTORY (8-1) Made moves in last three grass routes at Tampa, good value play.
#4 LADY EMBRACE (7-2) Finished 1-2-3 with Leon aboard in long-distance turf races.
#6 QUADRA (5-2) Sheds blinks, plays catch-me-if-you-can on class drop in first route since September.
Race Summary SECRET VICTORY was overhauled by the favorites when third at this level four starts ago, then made a middle move at one mile on the class rise for $25k and ‘hung’ around for third behind Bonita Breeze (4-15, $81k). She raced very wide on soft footing last out and is worth a win and place bet at an inflated price.

            Race 4 - Claiming - 5.5f on the Dirt. Purse: $21000 Class Rating: 60

            # 1 INAMORATA 10/1
LAUGHING LADY has a very good shot to take this race. Must be carefully examined given the class of races run as of late. Overall, this conditioner has been lucrative at this distance/surface. SANDY GIRL - Displays sound speed figures on average overall when compared with the rest of this field. She looks competitive in this slot and I expect will be on the lead or close at the midpoint.

              Charles Town - Race #3 - Post: 7:57pm - Maiden Claiming - 4.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $20,500 Class Rating: 48

              Rating:

              #5 DIRECT TO HEAVEN (ML=5/1)
              #8 CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE (ML=6/1)

DIRECT TO HEAVEN - Good trainers run fit horses. The fact that McKee worked this colt at a long distance tells me this one should be ready today. Took a significant drop in class rating last time out at Charles Town. Returning to a similar class level in this race. I'd calculate a good performance. CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE - He has the highest earnings per start. Take a good look at this horse.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #2 PUNXADONNY (ML=5/2), #4 MARK OF GREATNESS (ML=3/1), #6 JUSTOUTOFTHEBLUE (ML=4/1),

PUNXADONNY - Don't believe this racer is worth 5/2 in this affair. MARK OF GREATNESS - When scrutinizing today's class rating, he will have to earn a much better fig than last out to vie in this dirt sprint. JUSTOUTOFTHEBLUE - Don't figure that this runner is worth 4/1 in this event.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - DIRECT TO HEAVEN - I would infer that this thoroughbred should sit in the 'garden' spot, then this colt should be flying down the homestretch and romp to victory.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #5 DIRECT TO HEAVEN to win if we can get at least 9/5 odds

                # 7 LIBERTY CAP 10/1
                # 8 CIRCLE OF FIRE 7/2
LUCKY NEA has a formidable shot to take this race. Her earnings per start in dirt sprint events alone makes you take a look at her. Has very good Equibase Class Figures relative to this group - worth a look. She has put up solid figures under today's conditions and will probably fare well against this field. LIBERTY CAP - With one of the most competitive jocks in terms of gains at the window, don't count this mare out. With a solid 59 speed figure last time out, will clearly be a factor in this competition. CIRCLE OF FIRE - With a reliable 50 average speed fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. Amador's return on investment over the last 30 days automatically makes this animal a very solid contender.

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #1 - Post: 12:15pm - Claiming -5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,900 Class Rating: 75

                  Rating:

                  #3 DAVID'S GEM (ML=3/1)

DAVID'S GEM - The jockey/handler duet of Rodriguez and Johnson has a strong ROI together. Ran a lackluster race at Mahoning Valley Race Cour in the last race. Racing with the benefit of a fast track puts this gelding at the top of my list of contenders. This racer brings in a lot of money per start. I believe he will boost that total right here.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 JOE PHILLIPS (ML=2/1), #4 STAR SHOPPING (ML=5/2), #2 MAKING ME CRAZY (ML=7/2),

JOE PHILLIPS - Should have at least finished in the money in the last couple of months in a short distance affair to be worth the chance at low odds in a sprint. Can't play this probable favorite off the long layoff. Hard to keep stabbing at this sort of 'hanger' horse. STAR SHOPPING - Hard to take this vulnerable equine at these odds after the result (fourth) in the last race. This runner ran a run-of-the-mill speed rating in the last race. He shouldn't show signs of improvement and will likely suffer defeat in today's event running that rating. MAKING ME CRAZY - This gelding didn't do much for me last time out. This gelding is always close, but just doesn't finish first. Hard to wager on him on the top end. Registered a pedestrian speed rating last time out in a $4,000 Claiming race on Feb 26th. Unlikely to see an improved performance off of that figure.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 DAVID'S GEM to win at post-time odds of 1/1 or better

QUILL GORDON is tough to overlook as our best wagering option in this affair. Could provide us a triumph based on really good recent TrackMaster SRs - earning an average of 62. The knowledge group gives this standardbred a respectable chance to win this one, class ratings are tops in the field of horses. That 61 TrackMaster speed fig clocked in the most recent race puts this fine animal in the mix in this race.ALWAYSINAFRENZY G - The number crunching team knows that speed is the key in harness racing. This interesting entrant will unlock our way to a nice trip to the winner's circle. It's a bit risky to consider solely based on class, but this gelding has among the most competitive class numbers of the field. SWEET DANCER - Sullivan has been very good at moving his entrants down in class.

Hard not to favor ANNIE L as the top choice today. Don't let a horse with such a clear-cut winning percent like this be passed over. KING OF CASH - Could be considered for this one if only for the competitive TrackMaster SR earned in the most recent contest. When Chupp sends this contender out you can bet they'll hit the board, statistics show them there 56 percent of the time. GOTTA HAVE RHYTHM - Tough to pass on this gelding with sharp Merriman in the sulky. Major player for the victory. This entrant earned a nice speed rating in last race. Looks sharp to come right back.
