The “Lucky Strides” promotion this March at 1/ST BET and Xpressbet offers a $10 bonus when you bet $100 or more at select tracks each Tuesday and Thursday. Penn National will be the track spotlighted for this Thursday. Here’s how I’ll approach that card with the help of the Betmix Angler database.


Penn National: Race 1

#3 Tudox Rocket (8-1 morning line odds) was well-backed in his debut when a troubled trip may have been culprit for the poor performance. Not much has misfired of late for trainer Elisha Perez, who has 5 exacta finishes with her last 10 local starters. Win bet #3. Exacta box 3-1.


Penn National: Race 4

#6 Red Head Italian (10-1 morning line odds) takes a confident step up in class having 2 wins and a second in her last 3 local starts. Trainer Mark Salvaggio is 4-for-5 in the exacta this year with limited starters and has clicked 27% wins with jockey Jomar Torres. Tough to beat 2 runners from top trainer Brandon Kulp in here, but this is the value play. Win bet #6. Exacta key-box 6 with 5,3.

Fair Grounds - Race #6

#4 Rothko	Looks like a bit of a two-horse race on paper, but I think you can lean on this guy off the solid graduation run last time out. He should get a perfect trip right up top and probably still has a bit of upside.
#3 Maximum Promise	His form is all over the place, but he has also been in with some better groups along the way and wasn't embarrassed in his only local try when just two lengths off a Grade III last year.
#2 Dettori	Suppose his better stuff would make him a threat here, but I don't know what to make of the super-dull form through the last three starts. Wouldn't shock, but I don't think you can lean with any real confidence.
Race Summary	Rothko and Maximum Promise seem like the right pair in here, but I think Rothko is more likely to bring the right kind of race, and he should get the jump.

Fair Grounds - Race #8

#8 Incognito Burrito	Her Delta form may transfer OK here, and I think she gets the right kind of trip while perhaps having some upside off the only career turf start -- one that wasn't all bad. Interesting.
#4 Diva Beach	She can be a handful here, as she's got super-reliable form and it wouldn't be a surprise to see her bring another similar effort and win right back. Price probably reflects it.
#2 R T's Gem	She's in good form on the main and is probably better there, but I think she might still be sharp enough right now to land a share in a race that doesn't feel super strong for the level.
Race Summary	Incognito Burrito might get a great trip spying the pace from out here, and I like that she stepped up and held her own on the rise at Delta last time out. Interesting at an OK price.

Fair Grounds - Race #10

#2 Stormforged	The favorite should be tough here, but this guy might get a good trip near the top and has some upside while racing with Lasix for the first time. Price might make the gamble worth it.
#9 Englishman	He was a menace in the debut score at Churchill, and and he comes back to get this campaign kicked off in a race that doesn't feel like it'd take an A+ effort to land. Might roll these.
#5 Silver Talisman	He should be in a good spot to at least throw his hat in the ring turning for home, and I don't think his last is way too far off what it might take to land this. Wouldn't argue too hard if you took a stand with him.
Race Summary	With or against Englishman? Gut says he's legit and will come back running, but I think Stormforged may be the right kind of price to see if he can bring something better.

Race Summary	BLYTHE’S FERRY should live up to favoritism in his second start at this level. He bid 4-wide for the stretch run, dueled with an inner rival and was out-kicked by a deep closer to finish second at this distance. Bet to win and place and play 5-1 and 5-7 exactas.

Turfway Park - Race #4

#6 TRULY AUTHENTIC (5-1)	Shifted out at quarter pole, led in second start, but track favored closers.
#7 MEDIUM COOL (4-1)	Changes surfaces, takes some catching in his seasonal debut with Lasix.
#10 HARBOR POINT (7-2)	Drops for 24-percent barn with maiden claimers, draws post 10.
Race Summary	TRULY AUTHENTIC made a last-to-first move in his first long-distance test, but he was reeled in by his new stablemate and nipped late for the place spot. The raced timed one second slower than a $15,000 maiden claimer for the boys on the same card also dominated by closers. Bet to win and place and play a 6-7-10 exacta box.

Turfway Park - Race #6

#8 MY BUDDY BROOKS (7-2)	Shuffled behind tiring leaders, gets class relief, once romped at 1M.
#2 CURLS NITE OUT (5-2)	Tries to upgrade recent in-money finishes, usual strong barn been ice cold.
#1 ISA LEI (6-1)	Steps up off the claim, been stuck in ‘third’ gear of late.
Race Summary	MY BUDDY BROOKS backed off the pace on the first turn, lacked room on the second turn and lacked stretch kick. He drops in for the cheapest claiming price of his career and has a one-mile maiden romp on the all-weather track to summon. Bet to win and place and play 8-1 and 8-2 exactas.

2^nd race [NY, Md 40000, 1 mi] – (1) Nightscope (A) was a Linda Rice first-time starter who was sent off at 2-1 two weeks ago, was slow to stride but pressed the pace, and finished second well clear of the rest of the field. (4) Raynham Hall (B) climbed badly in her first dirt start and drops into a claimer for the first time. (2) Hip Hop Dancer had the lead last time in a similar spot and finished second. (5) Roseberns Dream will drop into a maiden claimer for the first time.

3^rd race [Alw 50000s, 1 1/8 mi] – (6) Big Dip pressed the pace and finished second by less than a length at this level in her first start in New York last month. (4) Pam Pam won 3 out of her last 5 races in a $25,000 claimer and a pair of starter allowances at Parx Racing. (5) Higher Force won both NY-bred allowances at the end of 2025. (2) Racing Colorshad the lead and was second in a similar starter allowance last month.

4^th race [Md 20000, 1 1/8 mi] – All but one of the seven horses in this field are NY-breds which under the conditions race for a $25,000 tag. (1) Good Cop (C) was bet down from 4-1 to 2-1 in a race where 4 out of the 7 were NY-breds racing for a $16,000 claiming price and pressed the pace before finishing third. (4) Beck’s Dreamer (B) was claimed from her last two races and in January stumbled badly, lost all chance, and was taken for $12,500. (2) Inonit is one of the NY-breds who was third by a length 18 days ago and gets blinkers on. (3) Lucky Dragon was third in that same race as Inonit.

6^th race [Alw 50000s, 1 mi] – (3) Carvellian Quest was an open-length winner and was claimed for $20,000 in January. He moved up to this starter allowance level and twice was in the top three. (1) Morlock won a $30,000 maiden claimer and then was second in a starter allowance with his top speed rating. (2) Twohonestmischief won a NY-bred maiden special weight and then was second in the first level allowance before running behind the top choice. (4) Whiskey N Soda won a pair of open claimers during the winter and was claimed for $20,000 in February.

COOKIE TIME - Filly is a first-timer whose last three works were on this track. When this jock and conditioner combine forces you have to take a look. McKee and Drury have been fabulous together. Drury adds Lasix to this one today. I'd look for a chance at a big improvement. WATERCOLOUR - This thoroughbred could be tough today, especially since Burgos rode last time around the track and now should be plenty familiar with this one. When Burgos and Lobo combine forces on horses the ROI has been fantastic at +100. I just may give this one a shot. Should improve off last race where she did run outside the top 3, but was within five lengths at the finish line. It is my opinion that fillys run better the 2nd time they get Lasix. Lobo puts this filly on it for the second time today, so give this one a look. BOURBON AND SPICE - Nice return on investment for this jockey and conditioner tandem. First-timer has workouts over the Turfway Park strip, which is always a plus.

This gelding looks very good in this contest since Saul has a strong win percent with horses going this distance. Has the looks of a profitable bet. TEN CENT TOWN - Miceli has this gelding running well and is a respectable pick based on the quite good Equibase Speed Figs recorded in sprint races recently. With a formidable 89 speed figure last time out, will clearly be a factor in this contest. PLAY - With a +3 return on investment, this jockey and conditioner combo has produced competitive gains recently for players.
