Jeremy Plonk: Penn National Bet $100, Get $10 Plays for Thu 4/9

    April 8, 2026 | By Jeremy Plonk

The “Blooming Bankrolls” promotion this April at 1/ST BET and Xpressbet offers a $10 bonus when you bet $100 or more at select tracks each Tuesday and Thursday. Penn National will be the track spotlighted for this Tuesday. Here’s how I’ll approach that card with the help of the Betmix Angler database.

    Penn National: Race 4

#6 Shout to the Lord (3-1 morning line odds) makes her Penn National debut for a Todd Beattie barn that has won with 5 of 6 starters since March 6. Lightly raced Curlin mare has back class and fit very well regionally in Laurel sprints previously. Win bet #6.

    Penn National: Race 7

#6 Tallahatchiebridge (5-2 morning line odds) gets a major jockey change here to David Cora, who has won 5 of his last 7 two-turn route mounts at Penn National (all paid $6-$12). Veteran has been most competitive in his one start at this class level sprinting in December. Bruce Kravets and David Cora have a winning ROI in tandem. Win bet #6.

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Keeneland - Race #4
#1 Callmeyourmajesty There are probably more likely winners in here, but I liked the way she stepped up when getting on the lawn last time out, and there is probably still some upside in the third lifetime start. Mild worry she'll become a mid-level wiseguy on the board, but I like her a lot today.
#3 Amberglen She went evenly when no threat in stakes company off the graduation run, but this easier spot makes sense for her to kick off her 3-year-old campaign, and she might find herself in a really good spot in midpack.
#9 Luster She showed a bit of positional pace while racing up close in the debut score last summer at Woodbine, and a similar kind of trip should leave her right up on the splits in a race without a ton of confirmed pace. Might trip out.
Race Summary Callmeyourmajesty posted the $51 upset in her turf debut last out, but I like the way she did it and think she might be in the mix here with any reasonable step forward after just the two starts.
      Keeneland - Race #6
#7 Kokomotion Hate to take a short kind of price in here in a spot with a handful of interesting players with some upside, but I just think her baseline form so far will be good enough to handle this crew while dropping out of (an admittedly soft) Grade III.
#4 East Jabip Pace looked good winning at first asking, and the way she ran that day hints to me that she can probably tap the brakes a little bit if she needs to in order to avoid a battle with any of the other forward players. Considered her on top and would want her covered in everything. Likely player.
#1 May Gray Like the way she moved forward to post that easy score last time out, and she's got a pedigree that should suit for the move to the grass. Wouldn't argue too hard with you if you wanted to land here -- she figures to fire.
Race Summary Fun race -- Kokomotion gives me a tiny bit of pause at what is not going to be too appealing a price, but she still has some of the same upside the rest in here do after just two starts, and I think that will be enough. If the price spread between her and East Jabip gets too big....reconsider.
      Keeneland - Race #7
#6 Queenstown Think she's a reasonable enough alternative to the likely chalk, and I'm hoping her relatively inconsistent form will help keep the price in a playable spot. Should get a great run from the outside with these.
#3 Majestical Really thought she'd bring something a touch better in the Grade II last time around, but there is nothing like Bella Ballerina or Luv Your Neighbor lined up in this spot today, so she may only need to run back to the December graduation score to handle these.
#2 Market Chill Suppose she has a bit of appeal while not yet a totally known commodity on the main track after just one try on the footing -- but she sure looked good handling that group in her dirt debut last time out. Wouldn't surprise me at all, but I think the top pair are more likely.
Race Summary Queenstown has some tactical pace in a race that lacks any real early burn, and that might leave her in a really dreamy spot heading into the far turn at a trip that can play to forward players.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Keeneland - Race #2
#3 SEA ZEST (4-1) Troubled but useful return, looms forward factor with Saez and second-time Lasix.
#8 LITTLE EMPRESS (15-1) Took money in her debut, worked in :35 flat at Keeneland, price attached.
#5 SHARING WISDOM (3-1) Owns top dirt speed figure in field, gets class relief, cutback should help.
Race Summary There’s a lot to like about SEA ZEST in this $20,000 maiden claimer at 7F. She ‘improved’ in a key race to cap her 2-year-old season and factored for this far in a 1-1/16-mile seasonal debut despite bumping with a rival at the start and not changing leads in the stretch. The runaway winner was dropping from Maiden Special Weight company. She lures Luis Saez to ride and should be close to the pace in a crowded field at 7F that lacks speed. Bet to win and place and play 3-2, 3-5 and 3-8 exactas.
        Keeneland - Race #4
#1 MA RAE’S GIRL (4-1) Runner-up in good company at four different venues, today’s Best Bet.
#7 FLAME DANCER (9-5) Good speed, best overall numbers, has shown passing gear if needed.
#3 MOM’S CHEESECAKE (6-1 Last-to-first on fall Keeneland visit, gets pace to run at.
Race Summary MA RAE’S GIRL could pay off quickly on a $30,000 claim. She finished second to multiple stakes winner Nerazurri three starts back at this distance, was forced to steady sharply on the class rise two starts ago, then ran second to the late-running favorite in a long sprint on Turfway Park’s all-weather track at this level. Bet to win and place and play a 1/3, 7/ALL trifecta.
        Keeneland - Race #9
#12 MERRY MADISON (2-1) Late foot with blinkers on in rapid-paced race at Tampa, post the concern.
#3 ONMYWAYTOSAVTHDAY (9-2) Upper-50 Beyer type ran second in 4 of last 8, two with Gaffalione up.
#11 BUT SERIOUSLY (10-1) Improved with Lasix, switches surfaces, De La Cruz rides again for new barn.
Race Summary MERRY MADISON, 3-wide on the turn, gained late to finish third as the favorite in a long sprint at Tampa Bay Downs last out. She chased faster fractions than a same-day, $10,000 open claiming race for the boys at 6F. Early position will be paramount from post 12 in her third start as a 4-year-old, in lieu of $100,000 in career earnings. Bet to win and place and play 12-3 and 12-11 exactas.

              Turf Paradise - Race #8 - Post: 4:40pm - Maiden Special - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $17,000 Class Rating: 85

              Rating:

              #6 DUTTON'S SONG (ML=5/2)

DUTTON'S SONG - We have lots of early speed with this mount. He could wire this field. I like the case that this colt's last speed fig, 81, is tops in this bunch.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #9 LITTLEYELLOWJACKET (ML=3/1), #4 JARVIS JUNCTION (ML=4/1), #1 NOW CATO (ML=6/1),

LITTLEYELLOWJACKET - Has been defeated as the public's top choice back to back. A repeat is probably in store. Finished second in his most recent effort with a mediocre fig. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this group. JARVIS JUNCTION - Granted the last race was strong, finishing third. The lack of any recent activity raises some concerns though. NOW CATO - Substandard speed rating last time around the track at Turf Paradise at 6 furlongs. Don't feel this mount will improve too much today.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - DUTTON'S SONG - Has been racing regularly since a freshening. According to my data, horses hit their peak cycle in their 3rd or 4th race back. Watch out for this one in today's race.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #6 DUTTON'S SONG is the play if we get odds of 1/1 or better
              EXACTA WAGERS: 6 with [5,9]
TRIFECTA WAGERS: 6 with [5,9] with [1,4,5,9] Total Cost: $6
              SUPERFECTA WAGERS: 6 with [4,5,9] with [1,3,4,5,9] with [1,3,4,5,9] Total Cost: $36

                # 11 MIDNIGHT MAJESTY 5/1
                # 2 CITY OF CLOUDS 9/2
I have to consider DERBY DATE here. Has been consistently racing well lately. I like the jock on this gelding - very strong chance to win the competition. Could beat this field given the 93 Equibase speed fig garnered in his last outing. MIDNIGHT MAJESTY - Hartman has this gelding racing well and is a respectable pick based on the strong Equibase Speed Figures posted in sprint races lately. CITY OF CLOUDS - Manley has one of the most competitive winning percentages in this group of horses in this race with entries running at this distance and surface. Overall, this conditioner has been profitable at this distance/surface.
