Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card with the $1.00 Pick 5 rolling in Race 5. That sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

2-Topville Somebeach (9/2)-Will fade #1 Overthinking the 2-1 ML chalk and look for a solid price with this veteran in the first start off a claim for the DiDomenico barn. Faded last time after coming 1st over. Now, Jim Marohn can land on the point and control the mile.
5-Lyrical Genius A (8-1)-Price shot came 2nd to the $40k claimers 2 back and now drops. Tried to go gate to wire that night and then drew the 8-hole last week. Gingras should be out and rolling, and a 2-hole trip could work for a picture.

Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

4-Rocket City A (7/2)-Put in a decent US start in a needed race, comes right back, and gets class relief. Did come the 2nd half in 56.1 but was raced from the back. Pat Lachance can be more aggressive after a start on the oval.
5-Diego N (3-1)-Broke stride and lost all chance at PcD. Ships back and lands in a soft spot. Should be a main player if comes with a top effort.

Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

4-Typhoon Banner N (7/2)-The 10-yr-old cranked it up and stopped the clock in 150.3 after leaving from the 7 hole at M1. Does know how to win at YR and can show big speed when right. Will look for another strong race and can offer a fair price.
6-Sterling Choice (2-1)--Beat similar 2 back with Jason Bartlett at the controls and then shipped to PcD.
Came 3rd versus W/O and lands back at Yonkers in a winnable race. Has won 7 of 8 on the Hilltop and will respect chances of another picture at a small price.

Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

2-Long Shot Buckets (9/2)-Joe B has steered in the last 2 starts and the improvement is noticeable. Won 2 back in 153.4 and then was a beaten 2nd to Shine A Light who won in the same 153.4. The chalk will be tough but if it doesn't have its fastball the 4-year-old could be posing.
5-Shine A light (4/5)-Winner of 5 straight has used the $15k claimers as an ATM. Bartlett will have the pedal down and go as fast for as far as he can.

Will Rogers Downs - Race #1

#2 His Way	Price won't be much here, but there isn't anything else to worry about from those who have run, and he has some pace to take it to this crew from the start.
#3 Violently Gone	Treat him like a debuter after he dropped the rider at the start in the October debut at Remington, and he seems to be coming into this forwardly enough to think he can make some noise here.
#4 Taking a Nap	First timer is worth a look on the tote and track ahead of this, but I do think the top pair will settle the score here today.
Race Summary	His Way and Violently Gone figure to command most of the cash, and I think one of them will land it -- will take the proven pace of the top choice.

Will Rogers Downs - Race #3

#6 Giveitaspin	Think he's going to get a really dreamy run from out here while tracking a few forward players who aren't known for always seeing out their races -- spy and finish to score.
#4 Samantha Code	She could find a similar trip to the top choice, and she's more accomplished than that one, having landed a stakes score last time out. Obvious player.
#2 Classical Echo	She's drawn closest to the fence of the pace players and figures to have a run for it, and I like the way her form has woken up a big since she found this local kind of crew a couple starts back.
Race Summary	Giveitaspin should be an OK price here while meeting a handful of more likely winners on paper, but I think she's going to trip out from the high draw and brings a local bullet work to this one.

Will Rogers Downs - Race #7

#7 Missing Code	This guy and the next one figure to make most of the early running, and I think he's going to get the best of the cat-and-mouse game up top while drawn outside of the other likely pace.
#4 Copper Magician	He steps up after rolling a claiming group in his route debut, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him win right back if he's able to control the tempo with this group.
#2 Stonington	Honest finisher didn't really offer much enthusiasm last out when a distant third, but there are some tries on his page that stack up nicely enough at an OK price here.
Race Summary	Missing Code looks the part while likely to get a perfect first-over pressing trip, and I'm hoping the presence of sharp last-out winner Copper Magician will help keep the price just playable, even if it's still somewhat short.

Race Summary	MATZOBALL MUHAMMET burned money while finishing in the money three times in four starts when last seen in the first half of 2025. He held second at this level against Davola, who stands 1-for-13 but finished second in a $7,500 claimer two weeks ago. Bet to win and place and play 4-5-3 and 4-5-7 trifectas.

#6 MADDIE’S GARDEN (6-1)	Right set-up, right price, steps up in class at suitable distance.
#3 SOUNDSMISCHIEVOUS (4-1)	Rallied to lead at stretch call and finish 1-2-3 in long sprints.
#5 GOLDEN CHAKRA (5-2)	Good speed, good post, gets Lasix for seasonal debut in new barn.
Race Summary	MADDIE’S GARDEN made a middle move going a route of ground on Turfway Park’s all-weather track. She gets pace to rally into and looms a good value play on the cutback in distance for a high-percentage claim barn. Bet to win and place and play a 3-5-6 exacta box.

Parx - Race #7

#1 CHASE A DREAM (6-1)	Could put rivals in “chase” mode with alert break from the rail.
#5 ROCKET NIGHT (7-2)	Winless in 28 starts with $100k bankroll, solid route numbers, shortens up.
#4 WE MISS NEIL (3-1)	Finished in money in 10 of 19 starts at Parx, barn 21-percent route-to-sprint.
Race Summary	CHASE A DREAM somehow got caught ‘very wide’ in a six-horse sprint in his first 2026 start. He should have no such trouble from the rail in a field that is a combined 8-for-131. He should lead for as far as he goes and offers plenty of value for a win and place bet to go the distance. Also play a 1-4-5 exacta box.

LIGHTEN - Faced tougher last race out at Turfway Park. Based on Equibase class figures, this is a weaker bunch, so I will put this horse on my list of strong contenders. Nice win percentage this jockey and trainer duo have been putting together. It is my opinion that fillys run better the second time they get Lasix. Ness puts this filly on it for the 2nd time today, so give this one a look.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 DREAMING OF BELLA (ML=5/2), #2 COURAGEOUS FERGIE (ML=7/2), #1 HONORISIA (ML=6/1),

DREAMING OF BELLA - This pony hasn't been on the track since Mar 18th. Not even any workouts. Didn't do alot last time out of the box. Probably won't make a winning move in today's race. This runner ran a mediocre speed figure in the last race. She shouldn't run better and will likely lose in today's race running that figure. COURAGEOUS FERGIE - Common speed figure in the last race at Parx Racing at 1 mile 70 yards. Don't think this entrant will improve too much in today's event. HONORISIA - Unlikely that the speed fig she registered on Mar 30th will be enough in this clash.
