Scott Shapiro: Keeneland Pick Six Carryover of $54,037

      April 21, 2026 | By Scott Shapiro

The final four days of racing this spring at Keeneland Race Course gets started with a bang. That’s right, the 8-race Wednesday card was made even stronger after no one was able to connect the dots on Sunday’s $1 Pick 6 sequence. That leaves over $54k in free money for horseplayers to go after over the last 6 races. But wait, there is more since Wednesday also marks the last chance at 1/ST BET and Xpressbet’s 2-Million Reward Points Hit & Split. Just connect the dots on the late Pick 4 after registering for the promotion and split the points with only our customers that took part in the wager. There is lots to get excited about to kick off closing week!!

Grade Descriptions: Grade A=Highest degree of confidence; Grade B=Solid Play. Grade C=Least preferred or pass; Grade X=probable winner but likely at odds too short to play.

      Race 3:
      Grade: C
Main Ticket: 4 Just an Opinion; 5 Commanded
      Backups: 3 Don’t Say It

Forecast: There is a major lack of early speed signed on in this open $25k claimer over the main track, which makes things a bit tricker to decipher. #3 Don’t Say It is a figure horse coming in off a win against lesser at Turfway Park for the white-hot Brad Cox stable, but tough to trust given her lack early zip. I will make #4 Just an Opinion my lukewarm top pick given the addition of blinkers and Luis Saez. Both could lead to enough early speed to give the 5YO mare a tactical edge at a juicy price. #5 Commanded is more logical. The daughter of Lord Nelson has been competitive over the main track and gets some class relief.

      Race 4:
      Grade: C+
Main Ticket: 3 Warlander; 5 Operation Overlord
      Backups: None

Forecast: The first-level allowance up next also kicks of the $3 All Turf Pick 3 and goes through #5 Operation Overlord. The Todd Pletcher conditioned colt has moved forward since adding the blinkers earlier this year in Florida. He ran extremely well in defeat last out when competing against the flow and now gets Irad Ortiz, Jr. back in the saddle. He will be tough to beat if the pace is not overly contentious, but there is a good deal on paper, so I will get sucked back into a horse that has taken a good deal of my money already. #3 Warlander has had lots of excuses throughout his career, but a lot of that could be on him. He gets back to the turf after spending the winter at Turfway Park and attracts Jose Ortiz. Hopefully, I finally see his “A” game.

      Race 5:
      Grade: B-
      Main Ticket: 1 Editor
      Backups: None

Forecast: The 5-2-ML favorite #1 Editor looks tough to beat in this $30k maiden claimer that kicks off the last chance at the aforementioned Hit & Split Late Pick 4 promotion. The lightly-raced son of Good Magic moved to the dirt last time after a debut over the grass and ran second to a next out Eddie Kenneally runner that is now 2 for 2. He drops in class and draws the rail, which should allow Irad Ortiz to get him to the front and never look back.

      Race 6:
      Grade: B-
      Main Ticket: 4 Big Trouble
      Backups: 2 Me Governor

Forecast: #8 Pandora’s Gift holds the class edge in this $140k allowance event at 5.5-furlongs over the grass and therefore was made the 8-5-ML favorite, but I prefer #4 Big Trouble. The Greg Foley trainee was entered in a stakes event earlier in the meet, but opts for this spot. She comes in off a pair of runner-up efforts at Fair Grounds, including one over the grass on February 27 in the Mardi Gras. She has been a little camera shy, but should be sitting on her best off a two-month freshening. #2 Me Governor is an interesting long shot alternative. The daughter of The Factor gets back to the grass in her second try off the bench. Hopefully, she can work out a favorable pocket voyage.

      Race 7:
      Grade: B-
      Main Ticket: 6 Evanescence
      Backups: 2 Roswell

Forecast: Three of the six runners entered in this third-level allowance exit the Hurricane Bertie (G3) at Gulfstream Park where it was the 4-5-favorite R Disaster getting to the wire first. #3 Lynn’s Milky Way battled early and tired late in that race and was made the 9-5-ML choice by oddsmaker Nick Tammaro. She is capable obviously, but I prefer #6 Evanescence. The 4YO filly should be sitting on her best in the third start of her 4YO campaign after an awkward start but strong finish in the Matron at Oaklawn Park. With a better break, I like her chances to make it a perfect 2 for 2 over this surface. #2 Roswell was easily defeated in the aforementioned Hurricane Bertie, but showed life late in her first start off a 3-month break. The addition of blinkers has her finishing races stronger. She should provide solid value for those who include her in horizontals.

      Race 8:
      Grade: C+
Main Ticket: #1 Astar; #4 Go for Rocket; #5 Master Sommelier; 7 Lahainaluna
      Backups: None

Forecast: I am not in love with the ML favorites in the payoff leg for all horizontals, so I will use a few in hopes of catching a price, including top choice #1 Astar. The Oscar Performance colt returns to the races for the first time since last July and now appears in the Mike Maker barn. Maker adds blinkers and legs up Ben Curtis. Do not be surprised if this leads to a forward trip given the rail draw and Curtis’ ability to get longshots home in grass races. Astar has plenty of warts, but so does the entire field.

Jeremy Plonk: Bet $100, Get $10 Mountaineer Tuesday Picks

        April 21, 2026 | By Jeremy Plonk

The “Blooming Bankrolls” promotion this April at 1/ST BET and Xpressbet offers a $10 bonus when you bet $100 or more at select tracks each Tuesday and Thursday. Mountaineer will be the track spotlighted for this Tuesday. Here’s how I’ll approach that card with the help of the Betmix Angler database.

        Mountaineer: Race 5

#2 Shiva (10-1 morning line odds) was a debut winner last May and proven to be able to get ready for a start strictly off of workouts. It’s his first start of the year, which makes this race condition suit him very well for horses who have yet to win in 2026. Trainer Marshall Godsey won with 2 of 3 local starters last week, including a $23 score. Win-place bet #2.

        Mountaineer: Race 8

#1 Feels Like a Kylla (20-1 morning line odds) makes his first start at Mountaineer and first start on dirt with a chance to wake up. Fast work April 14 over the track (second-fastest of 25 despite being a maiden claimer). Trainer Julie Mathes has had some early success with her Fort Erie charges at Mountaineer, including 6-1 and 7-1 winners last week while going 6: 2-0-2. Win-place bet #1.

          #5
          Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Will Rogers Downs - Race #5
#3 Sabres Price may not be much, but she's probably in line for the run of the race while sitting a perfect first-over kind of trip.
#2 Gottotry Mischief Speed doesn't always stay, but she looks like the controlling pace here and could stick around if she doesn't get into any kind of early tussle with the rail runner.
#1 Catale Winemixer She's quick enough to play a part of this early from the fence, and that at least gives her a chance in a small field like this if the race flow goes soft enough.
Race Summary Sabres should be tracking the two drawn just inside of her the whole way, and I think her baseline stuff should handle these. Solid lean.
Will Rogers Downs - Race #6
#9 Maritude Stretchout player isn't meeting a whole lot of serious pace in here, so she might find herself right up top from the outside draw. Wouldn't surprise to see her carry these the whole way -- or even most of it.
#6 Aroa She's tough to trust after a bunch of chances, but she is also pretty reliable for a horse at this kind of level, and she figures to come with her typical grinding run late. In the mix in a soft spot even for the local level.
#3 Osage Express She's capable of something better than she showed last time out, and she's also probably going to find a much better trip if she can get away from the gate better. Wouldn't argue with you.
Race Summary All three of these seem to have a decent claim on this, so check the board and see if any of them are getting let go. Maritude might trip out with a bit of stretchout pace from the outside.
Will Rogers Downs - Race #7
#6 Letta's Legacy Seems like there are a few in here with similar styles who could be near the top, but this one gets the edge with super reliable form and a sharp comeback win under her belt. Dangerous.
#2 Eireann She's probably going to find a good tracking trip with these, and it's tough to argue with her consistent form. Worried she'll get bet a bit, but she makes a lot of sense.
#1 Imamidnightspecial She has traded decisions with some of these, and she has enough pace to stay right up on the splits from the fence. Maybe the rail draw forces her hand?
Race Summary Letta's Legacy should get a great run while sitting just off a couple more committed pace players, and that ability to tap the brakes just a bit should serve her well.

            Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

            Turf Paradise - Race #3
#3 LEXITHEA (5-2) Met tigress in stakes, back sprinting, back on Lasix in speed-laden field.
#1 DEEP DESIRES (6-1) Disputed pace to stretch in seasonal debut with Lasix, might need passing gear.
#2 TIGER LADY (7-2) Will be running late at maiden-breaking distance for 18-percent ‘repeat’ barn.
Race Summary LEXITHEA, no match for unbeaten Song of Songs in the one-mile Arizona Oaks, is back sprinting and back in her element today. She spurted clear at 6F two back after setting a :43-3/5 pace and got caught. Bet to win and place and play a $1 Pick 3 with numbers 3/1,7/3,6.
            Turf Paradise - Race #4
#1 MOM SAYS (6-1) Race shape says he goes far on front end at tempting morning-line price.
#7 STRETCH RUN (5-2) Nine wins, six-figure bankroll, ultra-consistent sprint form, Nunnally sticks.
#5 MR. FABRICATOR (4-1) Proven miler tries 4-1/2F for first time in career for Team Silva.
Race Summary MOM SAYS seeks his third wire-to-wire victory in his fifth start this year. He lands in a great spot to maximize his speed at a half-furlong shorter than his wins. Bet to win and place and play a 1/7/ALL trifecta and 1-7 exacta box.
            Turf Paradise - Race #5
#3 R BARRACUDA (8-1) Four-time claim since July is live price play if he breaks alertly.
#6 CANDY’S CHROME (6-1) Held well for second behind odds-on fave in lone start since October.
#5 CAUTION CARDINAL (7-2) Second in ‘key’ sprint at this level two back, can join $100k Club.
Race Summary R BARRACUDA returns to the main track, where he has finished first or second in 8 of 18 starts. His prior one-mile start on dirt was a good one for a lower claiming price. He sustained a 3- and 4-wide run from midway on the backstretch to the wire despite spotting the field several lengths at the start and lugging in through the stretch. He’s worth a win and place bet at 8-1 on the morning line.

                  # 1 BIG WALT 6/5
                  # 4 WARRIOR OF GOLD 9/5
                  # 5 SNEAKY FEET 6/1
BIG WALT is the strongest bet in this race. Shows sound speed figs on average overall when matched with the rest of this group. Has solid early lick and will almost certainly fare strongly against this field. Could beat this group of horses given the 53 Equibase speed fig earned in his last outing. WARRIOR OF GOLD - Has been running admirably lately and should be close to the lead early on. Is a key contender - given the 72 Equibase Speed Figure from his most recent race. SNEAKY FEET - The average class figure of 50 makes this horse tough to beat. Trainers don't bring ponies back this soon without a good reason.

                    Will Rogers Downs - Race #3 - Post: 2:14pm - Allowance - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $26,000 Class Rating: 81

                    Rating:

                    #4 ASPIRATIONAL (ML=15/1)

ASPIRATIONAL - This rider and handler's horses have been generating a positive ROI. It looks like Kimes had to 'know' this mare on Mar 28th when riding her for the initial time. Back on again today.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #3 QUEEN CLANCY (ML=8/5), #1 GHOSTLY NIGHT (ML=2/1), #5 MISS ESCAPADE (ML=3/1),

QUEEN CLANCY - This mare hasn't had any recent good results in short distance affairs. No picnic to invest in her in this contest. The speed rating in the last race doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's event. Mark this thoroughbred as a likely underpriced contender. GHOSTLY NIGHT - No picnic to wager on this entrant this time out. Make her show you something in a short distance race before you bet on her in a race of 5 1/2 furlongs. Finished second in her most recent race with a substandard speed fig. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this group. MISS ESCAPADE - This mount gave a less than rousing performance last time finishing fifth. Can't expect any betterment in today's event.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #4 ASPIRATIONAL to win if you can get at least 1/1 odds

                      # 6 WEEKEND FLAME 6/1
                      # 7 BUCKIN' DREAMER 12/1
                      # 1 ROYAL CURLIN 2/1
WEEKEND FLAME could be the wager in here. Should be given a chance in this event if only for the solid speed figure posted in the last contest. Has to be given a shot versus this group displaying quite good numbers lately and an average Equibase Speed Fig of 73 under similar conditions. Very strong pick to take this race going in a dirt sprint. BUCKIN' DREAMER - His 82 average has this gelding with among the best Equibase Speed Figures for this event. Treharne has a sharp win percentage with horses running in dirt sprint races. ROYAL CURLIN - This gelding is coming back almost immediately to the track. With a reliable 73 average speed figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest.

                        Rating:

                        #3 R BARRACUDA (ML=8/1)
                        #5 CAUTION CARDINAL (ML=7/2)
                        #6 CANDY'S CHROME (ML=6/1)

R BARRACUDA - The rest of the bunch may trail this animal all the way around the track. CAUTION CARDINAL - I like to see fast drills. This gelding's last one was very good. Second fastest of the day. Ranks number one in earnings per race entered. A powerful performance today can augment the lifetime bankroll. CANDY'S CHROME - My experienced judgement tells me to be ready for this animal in this race

                        Vulnerable Contenders: #2 DRIVE TRAIN (ML=3/1), #4 K R RULES (ML=4/1), #7 CHANCES TAKEN (ML=5/1),

DRIVE TRAIN - I cannot play this continual non-winner. Gets the job executed from time to time. When looking at today's class figure, he will have to notch a better speed rating than last time out to compete in this dirt route. K R RULES - This gelding didn't do much for me last time out. Hard to play a entrant that can't even score one time in his last ten races. CHANCES TAKEN - Looked good on March 24th, finishing first, but no workouts since is a bit troublesome.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 R BARRACUDA is the play if we get odds of 3/1 or better
