Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    April 27, 2026 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5 and it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

3-Coaches Corner (8/5)-It looks like the Coach will need a win to make the Final and with this post draw he should get the jump on others. Captain Albano could be leaving too but draws the 6 hole and isn’t as desperate for a win. Fell short by a neck in last leaving from post 7 and will lean toward Jason Bartlett finding a way to win tonight.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

4-Bet On Big Joe (3-1)-This is the 3rd start on Lasix and in the previous 2 races stayed inside and cashed smaller checks. Drops and this looks like the time to take the wrapper off and post the first win of the year.
7-Coalford Topguy GB (5/2)-Winner of 2 straight versus similar lands in a good spot and is the one to beat. Went gate to wire and won easily in last and should be on the point or racing in the pocket behind Big Joe around the first turn. A 3-peat could happen.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

1-The Bigboss A (6-1)-Could offer a square price, drops and at this level should be a player drawing the rail. Beat this kind going gate to wire at the beginning of the year and will expect an aggressive steer from Matt Kakaley and probably needs to be leading at the top of the lane to win.
4-Hammering Hank (5/2)-The Laterza trainee dropped to this level in last and drew post 4. Went off at 7/5 and tried to come off cover but could only finish 2nd. Has the speed to win but needs a trip. Brent Holland should be racing close to the leader at the 3/4's pole

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

2-Major Pocket A (6-1)-Could be overlooked and does its best work when getting an up-close seat and might be able to land on the point early on. Has hit the board in 20 of 29 and took 4 pictures at YR. Colin Kelly posts 19% winners when driving for the Adamczyk barn and could be sitting on a big try.
5-Checkonwilliam GB (5/2)-The veteran won 3 back for the Laterza barn and was claimed back in the last race. This barn wins 35% of the time in first starts off a claim. Holland is the regular driver and this time he is between the pipes.
7-Deetzy (4-1)-Was claimed 2 back by the Deb Daguet barn and left hard last time from post 7 and faded badly. Does comes right back, and now Bartlett is at the controls. When Bartlett steers for this Daguet +barn he posts 44% winners. Should offer a fair price and will respect chances of a rebound with an aggressive steer.

    $2 Late Pick 4

    3/4,7/1,4/2,5,7
    Total Bet=$24

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Will Rogers Downs - Race #6
#10 Myrna Stretchout player has been honest enough locally, and he should find a good first-over kind of run from this high draw. Seems like the right one today.
#3 Truly Authentic Think the two-back run from Turfway might stack up okay at the local special weight level, but he didn't back it up with anything last time out and will probably take a little cash off that form. Possible.
#6 Bella's Atreides She just missed last time out when finding some better form, and she's capable right back if she's able to repeat that against this crew. That said, she's tough to trust with a lot of dull chances already on her page.
Race Summary Myrna seems like the one to beat while stretching out for the first time, and she has a pedigree to handle this mile trip. Think she's going to be tough in an underwhelming race.
Will Rogers Downs - Race #7
#9 Big Muckity His route form has been solid, so the move back around two turns isn't any real issue, and he handled a similar kind of group going short here in February. Dangerous.
#5 Sharp Lorenzo Forward player looked good when beating some of these last time out when getting back around two turns, and something similar would make him a danger to win right back.
#10 Quarterly Report Think the better stuff on his page would probably leave the rest of these running for second, and he can bounce back off that run last time out while getting in with a friendlier crew.
Race Summary Big Muckity has a ceiling high enough to make short work of this group if he's able to bring his best stuff, and I'm hoping the presence of a guy like Quarterly Report will help keep the price just playable enough.
Will Rogers Downs - Race #8
#1 Bailey Sioux Mild worry that she's going to get a tough trip from the fence here with some other forward players likely to stack up outside of her, but I think she might be able to tap the brakes just a touch if needed. Reliable form outside of that stakes try.
#6 Gospel Precious She was no match for an easy winner at this level two starts back, but the overall form is pretty honest and gives her a chance to land this from a really nice spying spot.
#9 Miss Code Red Could see her finding a really nice run of things from the outside draw while just waiting to make her move from a pressing spot. Hasn't done much wrong yet through four starts.
Race Summary Bailey Sioux has the form to play with this group if she can work out a trip from the fence, and the price might be OK despite finishing second against similar last time out when catching a tough winner.

            # 4 GOLDEN ICE 8/1
            # 1 IN SPADES 5/1
I like AWESOME FLAY here. Has very good front-end speed and will most likely fare quite well versus this group. Has to be given a chance - I like the figs from the last competition. GOLDEN ICE - Boasts reliable Equibase Speed Figures on average overall when compared with the rest of this group. Martinez's ROI over the last 30 days automatically makes this pony a strong contender. IN SPADES - Has been racing strongly in races of this distance, going 5 for 27 under similar conditions. Ought to be given consideration - I like the numbers from the last race.

              Mountaineer Park - Race #7 - Post: 9:30pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $7,000 Class Rating: 70

              Rating:

              #2 DADS GOOD RUNNER (ML=3/1)

DADS GOOD RUNNER - My buddies and I have made bucks playing ponies with this type of speed. Follow my advice and do the same. Ran in the last race against a much better field at Aqueduct. The move to a lower class level should suit him well. This gelding's last speed fig garnered on December 5th is number one in last race speed ratings.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #5 TIZ SPEEDY (ML=2/1), #3 PAPA KATZ (ML=5/1), #1 DISTORTED LIMITS (ML=8/1),

TIZ SPEEDY - Hasn't raced or had any drills since April 3rd. Not much value on this morning-line choice. You always think this equine has a shot to cross the finish line in first, but he falls short frequently. PAPA KATZ - This gelding hasn't been showing me anything in the last two outings. DISTORTED LIMITS - Today's race is 6 furlongs. Hasn't hit the board in a sprint event in the last 60 days. Not the greatest of signs.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - DADS GOOD RUNNER - This gelding is ready to do some damage in today's race. He has recorded three excellent speed figs over his last three races.

Will Rogers Downs - Race #6 - Post: 3:30pm - Maiden Special - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $25,000 Class Rating: 55

                Rating:

                #3 TRULY AUTHENTIC (ML=3/1)

TRULY AUTHENTIC - Looking at the past performances on all of these horses, this is the only one to stalk. Worth a serious look at this horse. The Mar 19th event at Turfway Park was at a class level of (69). Dropping down the ladder based on class drastically, so she should be in a good spot. You have to consider this magnificent animal in today's contest. She has been claimed out of her last two races.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #10 MYRNA (ML=7/2), #9 FLAT OUT CHROME (ML=4/1), #6 BELLA'S ATREIDES (ML=6/1),

MYRNA - 7/2 is too short of a price to take on this thoroughbred. FLAT OUT CHROME - She showed not much at all in the last contest. The speed rating last out doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class figure of today's event. Mark this racer as a likely underpriced contender. BELLA'S ATREIDES - When scrutinizing today's Equibase class figure, she will have to garner a much better speed rating than last race out to be competitive in this dirt route.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 TRULY AUTHENTIC is the play if we get odds of 1/1 or better

                  # 4 GRINNELL 5/2
                  # 2 HAPPY RANCH 3/1
BIG STETSON looks to be the bet in here. His 64 average has this gelding with among the most competitive Equibase Speed Figures for this event. Will probably be one of the leaders of the bunch going into the midpoint of the affair. Has run very well when travelling a dirt sprint race. GRINNELL - Should be given a chance here on the basis of the figs in the speed department alone. Reason to like this gelding as he has in the irons one of the best jocks using winning percentages over the last month. HAPPY RANCH - Has formidable early lick and should fare admirably versus this group of horses. Must be carefully examined based on the decent speed figure put up in the last race.
