Churchill Downs - Race #9

#2 Minaret Station	He's got his work cut out for him with this group, but he has done little wrong through four starts and fired fresh off a layoff last year. He obviously has some issues with the long layoff lines, but he might be able to play with this crew if he brings his game off the bench.
#9 West Hollywood	He rolled in a Grade III in his only career stakes try, and he was back off the break with a nice score in Louisiana last time out. Ability to settle and finish might serve him well in a race with a couple fairly committed pace players.
#8 Lagynos	He can be tough after pulling off a couple scores in New Orleans, but I just worry that he's pretty much got a baseline run and not a whole lot more to offer than that. It's a classy, capable baseline, but he might be vulnerable to someone jumping up with a big one.
Race Summary	Minaret Station is a question mark. He turned in a solid stakes score in his only start as a 3-year-old, and he's now back for his first start of this campaign with what I'm hoping is a tiny bit of upside into the 4-year-old year. Not sure we know how good he is yet, but I think he's good enough to stay in the frame with these.

Churchill Downs - Race #10

#3 Be You	He's an honest enough finisher who doesn't have to be totally outrun early today based on the race flow on paper, and there's no Knightsbridge or Book'em Danno in this lineup. Happy to land here at something shorter than the 4/1 ML offering.
#1 Concrete Glory	Don't love him here, but I think he's the only super-committed pace player in a spot where all the other speedy types can at least tap on the brakes. Chance he sneaks off at some point?
#9 Maximum Bourbon	Class test today for a guy who has turned out pretty nicely for a $50,000 debut claim, but he might be in line for a really good spying trip from out here and may still have some upside with just five career starts to his name.
Race Summary	Be You probably gets bet a little bit in here? I'm OK with that -- I think his recent form looks like a handful compared to these, as he has been running big races against the kinds of horses you'd expect to dust a crew like this if they showed up here instead of running in the Grade I Saturday. Think he's going to roll these.

Churchill Downs - Race #11

#11 Blushing Justice	She's a bit of a reach here, but she impressed me plenty in the Fair Grounds debut score and presumably has plenty of upside with just the one run under her belt. Worth a swing in case she's a really nice one.
#5 Cy Fair	She got beat last out but makes a lot of sense here while going second off the layoff, and she's not going to be have to be a whole lot better today to beat this crew. Best stuff would do.
#3 Final Accord	She couldn't hang late when stretching out for that Breeders' Cup try last year, but she's back to what is probably her ace trip today and seems like one of the ones.
Race Summary	Blushing Justice is meeting a Breeders' Cup winner in just her second career start, so I acknowledge that the ask here is significant. But I was excited to see her run back wherever she ended up after a really nice finishing score at first asking. Willing to give her a shot on the huge hike in hopes there is a ton of upside.

Race Summary	BOURBON CHASE drops below his recent claim level, sheds the blinkers and changes riders as he looks to recapture some of his lost form that led to nearly a quarter million in one-mile earnings. He was hard-ridden while 4-wide on the turn in his second start off a year layoff but lost contact with the 2-to-5 winner and the runner-up who came back to win an allowance. Bet to win and place and play a 2-3 exacta box.

#4 BABY SASSICAIA (9-5)	Been keeping good long-distance company, could return quick claim dividend.

JUSTIVAR - Looking at the information on all of these horses, this is the only one to stalk. Worth a long look at this horse. In this race here, this magnificent animal has notched the highest Equibase speed fig at the distance, so I have to give her the edge. This thoroughbred may have too much power on the grass for the rest of the field. When the field turns for home, she could put these away. Another way to judge class is earnings per start. This entrant has the highest in the field. I think she'll be close at the finish line. EGYPTIAN MISTRESS - Look for this one to go gate to wire in victory at some decent odds right here in this race. Ran fourth in last race, but not more than 5 from the lead at the end. Three consecutive improved speed ratings (71-83-87) make this horse a dominant contender. WINIKA - This filly should give a strong showing of herself in today's affair.
