Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6 (8:45 PM EDT)

1-All Alone (5/2)-Drops to a level where a win could happen. Has had the 8-8-7 posts in the last 3 races. Will benefit from this post draw and the new pilot Joe B, will have in play when the wings fold.
6-The Ideal Dancer A (6-1)-This race could set up for a stalker and Pat Lachance could go that route. The price is right to use because the veteran has back class and has enough gate speed to be in play early on. Could pay off at a price with the right trip.

Race 7 (9:05 PM EDT)

3-Vicious (5-1)-Comes off a 3rd place finish at PPc and was flying late. Raced from the backfield, was 10 lengths from the leader at the first call. Missed 3 weeks before the last race, and now regular pilot Tyer Buter is back. Will look for an aggressive drive and could be over looked.
4-Copperfield (5/2)-Was used hard off the car at PcD on a sloppy track and faded to come 5th. Jason Bartlett is not in the house tonight so Colin Kelly steers for Engblom and will look for a big try.
5-It’s a Me Mario (5-1)-Not sure what to think here. Started the Borgata Series with a 2nd place finish and a win. Then was put away and requalified on 4-24 and won. Now comes back to face a beatable field if 100%. Using at a 5-1 ML and will hope the Tritton trainee is dialed on high.

Race 8 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Quote Me Not N (3-1)-Came 2nd against the $30k claimers and hasn’t connected versus this kind. Same can be said for the entire field. The Engblom trainee lost by 1/2 length in the last 2 starts and will look for better leaving from the 1-hole.
5-Alta Classic A (9/2)-Has been close against the $30k claimers but hasn’t won a race since January. Brent Holland had the pedal down and left from post 6 into a .27 1st quarter. Worked to get on the point and then faded. This time could get a pocket ride or land on the point and may have an easier time off the gate. Does come back in sequence and had missed a start before the last race.

Race 9 (9:45 PM EDT)

4-Always A Thrill (9/5)-The Alexander trainee lands in a soft spot. The same could be said for Mattai Phil but he draws the 8-hole. Matt Kakaley should be able to work the right trip for a win. Could leave, get on the engine, and not look back.

Thistledown - Race #4

#1 Truest Air	Probably not much of a price here, but she looks like the controlling pace from the fence while dropping in for a tag for the first time. Should run these off their feet.
#3 Bobber's Rocket	She has landed far underneath a few times but has yet to be a serious threat to a winner, and while she's getting into a cheaper spot like this for the first time today, I think she has some work to do to land this.
#4 Miz Biondetti	She debuts here with reasonable expectations at this level, and she's not meeting much on paper outside of the top choice -- and even that one isn't bringing a ton of sharp form.
Race Summary	Truest Air isn't meeting much other pace, and she has shown speed against better groups. Guessing that kind of pace will translate into something tough in a bad race.

Thistledown - Race #7

#6 Parlay Charlie	She was a good fit with this kind of group last year and should be in line for a good run of things while tracking the pace from the outside draw. Dangerous if she's ready to roll.
#4 Instigation	She's super reliable and almost always brings her A-game from close range, and her baseline effort probably makes her tough with these. Price will reflect it.
#1 Credit Check	Positional speed could work out an OK trip from the fence, and she was in the frame with the top choice when they met last year, so the hike isn't a huge concern right now. One of the ones.
Race Summary	Parlay Charlie landed a few shares with similar here last season, and she should get a really good spying trip against this group today. Would be playable as the second choice.

Thistledown - Race #8

#7 Zippin Gigi	Dangerous pace isn't meeting a whole lot of other serious speed in this one, and I think his better stuff will make him a handful with these. Controls this one the whole way?
#6 Oleg	He's another forward player who should be in the frame early with the top choice, and his ability to tap on the brakes just a bit can help him here, too.
#4 Harbour Bridge	Honest finisher tends to settle underneath, and I'm not totally sold that he's going to get a big pace setup to help him get over the top -- makes sense for a piece.
Race Summary	Zippin Gigi and Oleg have a little bit of pace in a race that otherwise doesn't have much, and I think the former will be able to control the tempo and see this one out.

#2 GOODMORNING GRACIE (4-1)	Takes some catching on surface switch despite class jump.
#5 LOST ART (6-5)	‘Fractious’ behavior in lone turf try but overall form looks ok in this field.
#6 IT’S JUST SIMPLE (6-1	No factor in Maiden Special Weight company on Fair Grounds lawn.
Race Summary	GOODMORNING GRACIE dueled and held second in a pair of dirt sprints at Fair Grounds and could get loose up front in her first start on turf. Her dam, Gunnite Gracie, was 21/6-6-2 on turf and a one-mile allowance winner while campaigning for the same barn. Bet to win and place and play 2-5 and 2-6 exactas.

Louisiana Downs - Race #5

#6 BARRICADE (4-5)	Class should tell in this spot, key on top in all gimmick wagers to try and get value.
#5 STANS HOME RUN (5-1)	Texas invader has finished in the money in 22 of 33 stars on the main track.
#4 Z Z’S PRINCE (6-1)	Been facing better on turf, starts fresh for new barn with 7-29 record intact.
Race Summary	Hard to look past odds-on choice BARRICADE despite a voided claim two starts ago. He was all-out to prevail as the 1-to-5 choice in a route race at this level, but the $232k earner should out-class six rivals who are a combined 3-for-76 since 2025. Make a flat win bet and play 6-4 and 6-5 straight exactas for better value.

Louisiana Downs - Race #6

#3 LEWIS MEMORIAL (4-1)	Should sit ideal stalking trip on return to the lawn, good value play.
#2 RANDY DAYTONA (8-1)	Idle since fall, solid works, tries to carry speed at maiden-breaking distance.
#5 PRINCE PERFECTA (7-2)	Runs okay for Dominguez, with only one win and a pile of seconds.
Race Summary	LEWIS MEMORIAL held off next-out, wire-to-wire winner Witchology to break his maiden at one mile on the main track. Now he looks to turn the tables on speedy RANDY DAYTON when he ran second to that rival in his lone start on turf. Bet to win and place and play 3-2 and 3-5 exactas.

FALL IN LOVE - I like horses that return to a similar class level after dropping at least five class rating pts like this one did last out. I believe she'll be competitive at this class. MY LUCKY DEIA - True, this horse is coming off a layoff, but this mare runs well fresh. Baird drops her down to this class level. You don't need too much more handicapping knowledge to think this thoroughbred should run well at this level. This mare is very familiar with the winner's circle at Mountaineer Park. I expect a repeat trip right here in this race. I may not be the top handicapper in the world, but I know a good thoroughbred when I see one. Last three races before this one have been strong for this horse. Based on that, should do well in this field.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 SHE GRINS (ML=2/1), #7 R CANDY (ML=9/2),

SHE GRINS - Hasn't raced or had any drills since April 7th. Not much value on this morning-line favorite. R CANDY - Had to give me more than that last time out. Never made much of an impact. Most of the time I need a sprinter to have some success lately in short distance contests in order to bet on her.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - FALL IN LOVE - I've checked and double checked my historical statistics. This equine is the only dominant stalker in this group. Should make a big move turning for home on her way to the winner's circle.

AGNELLO'S DREAM - Is a strong contender based on figs put up recently under today's conditions. AULD LANGE SYNE - Risk takers should take a good look at this one as this gelding has one of the best win percentages at this distance in this field. With Rodriguez aboard him, this gelding will probably be able to break out sharply in this contest.

Should be tough on the front-end. THE TIRE MAN - Was in a non-classified race race at Parx Racing in the last race. That affair had a class figure of 83 and he is moving down right here. A certain strong challenger. Is ranked number one in the field in earnings per race entered. A powerful effort in this event can add to the lifetime total. IT'S AUTHENTIC - Looking at today's class rating, this thoroughbred is encountering an easier group than last time around the track at Parx Racing.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 CARLIN CONTENTION (ML=7/2), #5 ACCELERATED DATING (ML=4/1), #4 WEEK'S STRONG (ML=9/2),

CARLIN CONTENTION - This come from behinder should have a rough go of it to be along in time with the paucity of early speed in this race. ACCELERATED DATING - Sophomore versus older for the first time is a tough one. Have to see this effort first. No speed in this field to help set-up his closing rush. WEEK'S STRONG - Hard to keep stabbing at this sort of 'bridesmaid' horse. The speed rating last time out doesn't fit very well in this clash when I look at the class rating of today's contest. Mark this thoroughbred as a vulnerable competitor.

LOST ART looks very good to best this field. This filly with Dominguez in the saddle makes her a definite contender. Keep this filly in your exotics as Dominguez has given backers some double digit gains. Earnings per start at the distance/surface is a good handicapping key. This one ranks at the top in this lot. SHOW' EM NOLA - West has this filly running well and is a very strong selection based on the very good speed figures put up in route races as of late. GOODMORNING GRACIE - Should come out strong - I have liked the way this filly has moved quickly to the front end recently.
