Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

    May 11, 2026 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

    Race 6 (8:25 PM EDT)

2-Himself N (3-1)-Had a good try from the 7-hole 2 back and finished 3rd, then dropped and popped drawing off by 5 lengths. Jordan Stratton sticks and he could get on the engine and make every call a winning one.
4-Rolling With Sam (4-1)-Sam is a 1-move type that needs a trip. Has been cashing small checks but that was against tougher. Joe B sticks, so will look for a more aggressive steer at this level.
6-GDS Thunder GB (8-1)-Will take a swing for a price and Austin Siegelman could be aggressive off the gate. Faced this kind in last and raced better, will string along, and look for another improved try.

    Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

1-Boston Bound (9/5)-Was used a couple of times after leaving from post 4 and won. Jason Bartlett provided a sharp steer, now draws the 1-hole, and faces the same kind.
2-Matai Phil N (7/2)-Liked Phil last week and Brent Holland went gate to wire from post 8 and stood tall to the wire. Faces better here, Holland sticks and could be up to the challenge. Respecting its chances to double up.

    Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

3-Vicious (5-1)-Didn’t have a great start last week versus the Invites and lost to a well-meant winner. Did go the 2nd half in 55.1, has beaten this kind before and the last winner isn’t in this field. Should be a threat if Tyler Buter provides a smooth steer.
4-Copperfield (3-1)-The last couple have been a bit dull, but Bartlett returns for this affair. The last time in at this condition was bet down to 4/5 and drew off by 3 lengths with tonight’s pilot in the bike.

    Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Verdun (5/2)-Leaving from post 1 might be a bit tricky, but Pat Lachance knows well and this field isn’t as stacked as those in the Borgata Series. Lands in a soft spot and will look for Lachance to push the button at the right time and take a picture.
5-Catalpa Rescue A (8/5)-This is another who found the water too deep in the Borgata series. Not loving the short price, but Bartlett has that effect and he hasn’t steered the 7-year-old this year. Has won 5 of 15 at YR and the pedal will be down when the wings fold against this crew. Bartlett posts 44% winners when he drives for the Scott Blackler barn.

    $1 Late Pick 4

    2,4,6/1,2/3,4/1,5
    Total Bet=$24

      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

      Thistledown - Race #4
#7 Kiddie Cocktail Don't trust her a whole lot given that she hasn't been a serious threat to a winner in a long time, but she has a mild ability to get past horses that might work in her favor here. In the mix.
#2 Beachglass She's another with a couple running lines that hint she might be able to finish up and score here, and she may still have a little bit of room to come forward after just three starts.
#1 Storm Search Not sure she's quick enough to lead from the fence on the cutback, but she has some mild appeal with route pace turning back against Ohio-bred company for the first time. Not sold, but not impossible.
Race Summary Kiddie Cocktail has fairly honest form that has snagged her a handful of underneath shares, and she might find herself in a really good spying spot with this crew while racing fresh.
      Thistledown - Race #5
#4 Tale of Lemonbelle She rallied well in her local debut and looks like a player if she's able to bring something similar right back. She's probably a touch more tactical than she showed last out if she needs to be.
#6 Taqdeer She woke up in a hurry when facing the locals for the first time, rolling home by six while paying $2.10. She rises with competitive enough form to handle winners in her first try.
#8 Honor and Obay She often finds herself empty in the final yards, but she draws well to attack the pace from out here and wouldn't be a surprise. I wouldn't argue too hard with you if you landed here.
Race Summary Tale of Lemonbelle turned in a good one in her first start over the course, and she might be a bit closer to the early pace than she was last out.
      Thistledown - Race #7
#4 Anotherhope Her local debut was solid when second last out against similar, and she's probably in line for a really nice trip while tracking the pace here.
#1 Miesha She's quick enough to find a good spot near the top from the fence, but she can also tap on the brakes just enough if they want to back off if an early battle starts.
#5 Queenofthebuckeye Think she's a bit of a reach to land this, but she some occasional grinding form that helps her get past a couple horses, and that could lead to a small share today at a nice price.
Race Summary Anotherhope probably doesn't have to get in a fight early like she did last time out, but I liked that race either way -- think she can get first jump for home today.

        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Parx - Race #4
#7 CHELSEA WALL (5-2) Ness re-claim loves to win, move forward in second start off layoff likely.
#1 GOLDCREST (9-2) Remains eligible for this spot off runaway victory, moves outside in.
#2 TARIBA DREAM (7-2) In top form, proven one-mile record, can surpass $100,000 in earnings.
Race Summary CHELSEA WALL followed the move on the turn by 9-to-5 winner Rowsie Express (737, $288k) and settled for second off a five-month layoff in a longer route race. She romped to the top speed figure of her career off a shorter rest in the Fall. Bet to win and place and play 7-1 and 7-2 exactas.
        Parx - Race #1
#2 CLASSIC MYSTERY (6-1) Belated ‘energy’ can turn into contending energy in this field.
#1 ROYALTIES RICHES (2-1) Will be an underlay in first start for Pino and for lowest tag of career.
#7 BROAD STROKES (5-1) Drops below claim level, has done the least wrong in field that is 9-for-146.
Race Summary CLASSIC MYSTERY showed some late interest in her last two sprints against a pair of runaway winners with $80,000-plus in earnings. She was up against a slow pace two back and a 6-to-5 favorite last out. She should get ample pace flow to rally into today at a decent price. Bet to win and place and play a 1,2/1, 2, 7/ALL trifecta.
        Parx - Race #2
#6 J.C.’S LOVIN LIFE (2- No excuses in this field with decided tactical advantage at another short price.
#2 SMOKIN’ HOT WIFE (6-1 Owns top two dirt speed figs, steps up off the claim at Turfway Park.
#5 THINK I’M IN LOVE (9- Gets class relief, gets blinkers, gets new rider for third start.
Race Summary J. C.’S LOVIN LIFE, the beaten favorite in 5 of 6 starts, will take some catching in this spot with Paco aboard. Give her one more chance in her first start for a claiming price and second start as a 4-year-old. Bet to win and place and play 6-2 and 6-5 exactas.

              # 4 TRICKY TIGER 4/1
JOHN'S ROCK is my choice. When a handler brings any horse back this soon it is a positive signal. Has the looks of a lucrative bet. Has strong Equibase Class Figures relative to this group - worth a look. HOT GUNNER - Earned a strong Equibase Speed Figure in the last race. Can run another good one in this contest. TRICKY TIGER - Ran a solid last race. Rivera and Chavez have won 32 percent of their races giving this racer a strong chance.

FOREVER HOPE is the best wager in this race. Is a solid choice - given the 61 Equibase Speed Figure from his most recent race. MOVIN OUT - Overall the speed figures of this equine look strong in this contest. Has solid early speed and will probably fare very well against this group. THOUSANDS OF HOPES - Has been travelling solidly and has among the strongest speed in the race for today's distance. No strangers to the winner's circle, Garcia and Pedroza will most likely have this gelding breaking away from the field.

                  Rating:

                  #4 PRINCESS AZARA (ML=2/1)

PRINCESS AZARA - Whitacre is right back for another affair today after sitting atop this animal for the 1st ride on Apr 21st and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. A thoroughbred coming back this rapidly after a good effort is a good signal.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #6 GORDA (ML=4/1), #7 SILVER WISHES (ML=9/2), #3 CATRINA ZAR (ML=5/1),

GORDA - Recorded a substandard rating last out in a $4,000 Maiden Claiming race on Apr 28th. Not likely to see an improved performance off of that rating. SILVER WISHES - No favorable outcomes for this questionable contender in a short distance event over the last 60 days tells me that this filly is in a tough spot CATRINA ZAR - Not probable that the rating she registered on April 14th will hold up in this affair.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #4 PRINCESS AZARA to win if we can get at least 1/1 odds

                    #2 TAVERN TIME (ML=3/1)

AND THATS MY STORY - The rest of the group may trail this animal all the way around the track. TAVERN TIME - I'm counting on this horse to run a good race this time around.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #5 BONAFIDE (ML=5/2), #7 TALL COTTON (ML=4/1), #4 REAL MEN VIOLIN (ML=5/1),

BONAFIDE - The fourth place result in the last event was not the greatest. Hasn't raced or had any morning drills since Apr 18th. Not much value on this morning-line favorite. TALL COTTON - Unlikely that the rating he earned on March 28th will hold up in this event. REAL MEN VIOLIN - This animal hasn't been in the money in either of his last two efforts.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #1 AND THATS MY STORY to win at post-time odds of 7/5 or better
