    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Belterra Park - Race #3
#4 Rachel's Kid She has had plenty of chances and is short on excuses, but she has some ability to get past horses late which may serve her well in a race without any real finishing punch. Grinds it out late?
#3 Tacit Agreement She's worth a look in her first dirt start after a few chase-and-fade efforts at Turfway, and she could find the local crew a bit more to her liking.
#5 Sisterlithic She's another forward player who has faded late in her starts, but she's not meeting much on paper in here and might be able to stick around better if she's able to sneak off at any point.
Race Summary Not sure what to do with #6 Belongtothenavy -- she didn't show anything in the debut, but that came with a better group at Keeneland. Your call. Rachel's Kid has some mild finishing form that could play well in a modest spot.
    Belterra Park - Race #5
#6 Flaming Mama Think you can go a few different ways in this one with the logical players, but this one has some upside in the second start off the bench and probably doesn't have to come forward too much off the last one to land this.
#2 Bermuda Cay She's another with some reasonable upside in the second start off the layoff, and she's quick enough be in a the frame turning for home. Wouldn't argue with you.
#5 The Pretty One The last one stacks up OK on paper, but she is finding a deeper spot today and might be most likely underneath here.
Race Summary Flaming Mama has been pretty close a couple times and brings some upside to this one after a useful comeback run. Think she'll graduate with this group.
    Belterra Park - Race #7
#2 Smooth Whiskey He stretches out for the first time, and he showed enough sprint pace to think he'll be right up on the splits early while trying this longer trip. He beat a small group last, but there is probably still some upside.
#6 See Ya Alligator He's another getting his first route test, and he has a little bit of honest sprint form from off the pace -- that said, I think the last couple are pretty compelling.
#4 Party Boy He's probably capable of something better than he showed a couple starts back, and he at least has a little bit of proven route form in a race where the main players are stretching out.
Race Summary Smooth Whiskey and See Ya Alligator both try two turns for the first time, but the former is a bit more tactical and should get the jump into the far turn.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Penn National - Race #2
#6 BALLYKEEFE (5-2) Overtaken on lead by 4-to-5 winner in latest, class drops for third start of year.
#9 REGAL MISS LILLY (4-1) Mid-50 Beyer type can rally for share at maiden-breaking distance.
#2 MUSIC CLARIFICATION (7-5) Steady check-getter disappeared in latest, turf the question.
Race Summary BALLYKEEFE has speed, gets class relief for her third start of a cycle and gets in light-weighted. She’s one of three entrants with a win on turf, so give her the nod for a win and place bet to go along with 6-2 and 6-9 exactas.
      Penn National - Race #5
#5 FINE DIAMOND (15-1) Barn on a roll with claims, looking for a gold diamond with this one.
#4 ONEOFTHEGOODGUYS (5-1) Six-figure earner with ten 1-2 finishes in 18 starts at this distance.
#7 CONFISCATED (5-2) Sped away with back-to-back wins but got caught late in three-peat try.
Race Summary The field is a combined 55/16-12-6 at 6F. Taking a longshot stab on FINE DIAMOND, who showed a passing gear when he won at first asking and gets plenty of pace to rally into if his new connections opt for those tactics in this allowance sprint. Trainer Ernesto Padillo-Preciado is on a 21-for-73 run with new claims. Bet to win and place and play a 4-5-7 exacta box.
      Penn National - Race #7
#4 RIPPIN (4-1) Costly run into traffic jam on the turn as beaten sprint fave, deserves another chance.
#8 APOLLO ELEVEN (8-5) Fair Grounds invader takes the plunge after series of double-digit setbacks.
#1 SOO HANDSOME (3-1) Finished second in 5 of his last 8 long-distance tests, none from the rail.
Race Summary RIPPIN rallied boldly between rivals on the turn at 6F but had to regroup after he lost momentum in a traffic jam nearing the stretch. He finished a willing third as the favorite, now goes long on the dirt for the second time in his career. Bet to win and place and play 4-1 and 4-8 exactas.

            RECOMMENDED CHOICES
            # 1 GIOTTO 5/2
            # 5 FULLA WICKED SUGAR 8/5
            # 6 GOLDIE'S MOON 15/1
GIOTTO looks to be a very good contender. Overall the Equibase Speed Figures of this racer look respectable in this contest. Appears to be the type to be helped with second time Lasix here. Trainer boasts very strong win numbers at this distance and surface. FULLA WICKED SUGAR - With one of the strongest jocks in terms of profits at the window, don't count this filly out. Looks solid versus this group of horses and should be one of the front-runners. GOLDIE'S MOON - Must be carefully examined - I like the figs from the last contest. Sharp jock with conditioner figures make this horse a strong wagering choice.

              Penn National - Race #1 - Post: 5:45pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,000 Class Rating: 71

              Rating:

              #3 HONORABLE CHILL (ML=4/1)
              #5 SHINING SPIRIT (ML=8/5)

HONORABLE CHILL - This horse should go right out to the early lead and may never look back. Could wire the field. I have to like this mare's chances to win at the shorter distance. SHINING SPIRIT - Mare had the second fastest workout of the day prepping for this. This beautiful animal is in great demand coming off two claims in her last two starts. Don't overlook this mare in your gambling today. A win percentage the likes of what Rodriguez and Kulp have achieved together is outstanding. The Kulp barn does well with horses off the claim. Just claimed this racer, expect an improvement

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 QUEEN WIGGY (ML=7/5), #4 MY BOSS LADY (ML=6/1),

QUEEN WIGGY - Didn't do alot last time out. Probably won't make a winning move in today's event. I don't normally play a probable favorite that hasn't been to the track in the last 3 weeks. The speed figures continue to descend, 57/46/31. Not a positive sign. Substandard fig last out at Parx Racing at 6 furlongs. Don't think this pony will improve too much in today's race. MY BOSS LADY - I can't play this frequent non-winner. Gets the job executed from time to time.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - SHINING SPIRIT - This mare has the top speed figure last race with a very good 73. She is the top wager here.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #3 HONORABLE CHILL on top if we're getting at least 5/2 odds

                The Walker Group Picks

                # 2 AGRADECIDO 7/2

                # 5 ANOTHER CONQUEST 5/1

                # 3 SHIROI KAO 2/1

AGRADECIDO looks to be a formidable contender. ANOTHER CONQUEST - Has been running quite well lately and will almost certainly be close to the front end early on. SHIROI KAO - Has decent early lick and ought to fare quite well against this group of horses.

                  Charles Town - Race #6 - Post: 9:21pm - Maiden Claiming - 4.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $20,500 Class Rating: 52

                  Rating:

                  #8 MIRACLE LAD (ML=7/2)
                  #4 DIRECT TO HEAVEN (ML=3/1)
#1 SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT (ML=6/1)

MIRACLE LAD - Dropped in class last time around the track, running against the same type today. DIRECT TO HEAVEN - Raspaldo comes to ride again after getting to know the colt in the last contest. Last workout should have legged up this colt for today's race. I like this animal. Finished in front of today's chalk horse last out at Charles Town, and I think he will do well versus this field today. The addition of the 'shades' usually means that a trainer wants a thoroughbred to show more zip or to keep his attention focused. SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT - Last ran at Charles Town and finished sixth. Reviewing his PP lines, I see he was close at the wire, within five of the winner. For my money, a bullet workout is the best indicator of fitness there is. Look at that last one - 35.8. Very impressive. This one is not the M/L choice, yet he finished ahead of today's chalk in their last race together.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 KING UNI (ML=5/2), #2 MILLE PAROLE (ML=5/1),

KING UNI - This gelding finished off the board on Apr 9th and wasn't close to winning last out either. Quite unimpressive speed rating in the last race at Charles Town at 4 1/2 furlongs. Don't think this steed will improve too much in today's event. MILLE PAROLE - This horse didn't race too well last time finishing eighth. Don't see any chance of any change in today's event. When scrutinizing today's class rating, he will have to register a much better speed fig than last time around the track to compete in this dirt sprint.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #8 MIRACLE LAD to win if you can get at least 4/1 odds
