Woodbine Mohawk Park wraps-up the weekend with a 10-race card. The 0.20 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7 (9:01 PM EDT)

3-Smiles For Miles (7/2)-Wasn't a match for the one below when bumped up to face this kind after winning 2 straight. This looks like a 2-horse race and may need the chalk to get a bumpy trip. But will respect with this post draw and the last line was better than it looked.
8-Stickeminlethimgo (3-1)-Comes off a dominate win from the 9-hole against this company. The trip wasn't kind, that effort should win here, and the post helps the price.

Race 8 (9:24 PM EDT)

1-What About Elmo (5/2)-This is the 4th race off the bench, and so far it hasn't been pretty. Broke in its season debut, then was handled cautiously, and put 2 in no-move miles against tougher foes. Could have its way with this crew if brings a top try but can't completely trust.
2-Mastercraft (3-1)-This is the other big dropper, and the 5-year-old has good gate speed. Will look for Jonathan Drury to take control and could be tough to tackle with a well-rated mile.

Race 9 (9:47 PM EDT)

7-Miraculous Desbi N (3-1)-There are reasons to not use this horse but in a formless field the veteran may have dropped low enough to win. The rubber hits the road with the trip and could be the best down the lane if it doesn't have too much work left to do.
8-Bet The BB (9/2)-Made its 1st start of the year at FlmD, drew post 7 and basically put in a tune up. Should be competitive if tight enough and can offer a square price. Gets a positive driver change in Travis Cullen and to win probably has to fire out. Anticipating that to be the case and should be racing near the top of the stack if dialed on high.

Race 10 (10:10 PM EDT)

6-Djimon (3-1)-Went gate to wire from this post 2 back and then stepped up and drew the 9-hole. Left, was used to get the top but faded. Draws the choice post and that could be a winning difference. Has won 6 of 29 at Mohawk and shouldn't blush at this group.
9-All Gas No Brakes (7/2)-The switch to Louis Roy won't help the price but can make it interesting. Needs to be used off the gate and could take a picture if on top or close to it at the head of the stretch. The veteran has won 22 of 93 starts at Mohawk and its last win was at Wbsb against better back in March.

Santa Anita Park - Race #5

#7 French Moonlight	Honestly thought she might run a little bit better than she did in the stakes try last out, but she's back in a much friendlier spot for this one and brings some baseline form that might make her tough.
#6 Fibonaccis Ride	She's a fit from off the pace if you take the last two at face value, and she may still offer an OK price with these despite the recent form. Maybe too late?
#2 Jennys Wine Girl	She's got honest form and some tactical pace that will keep her in the frame early on, and she's a threat right back on the rise after dipping into an easier spot to score last out.
Race Summary	French Moonlight makes sense on the drop, and she has some spying speed to stay in the picture early. Capable on the drop.

Santa Anita Park - Race #8

#5 Stronghold	He looked solid winning the comeback race at Oaklawn, and he's landing in what feels like a pretty soft spot for a local Grade III. Think he's supposed to handle these.
#3 The Goat	He's back for the first start since December 2024, but he has been working pretty well ahead of this comeback run -- take a look at XBTV.com. He had some quality in South America, so let's see how that translates here, especially considering most of his important work there came going longer.
#2 Bartholdy	He has landed a few underneath shares in graded company, and he's quick enough to be in the mix early at this kind of trip. Enough to like.
Race Summary	Stronghold should be a handful against this group -- he's bringing a sharp comeback run with him and meeting a fairly modest cast for the level. The Goat is the wildcard.

Santa Anita Park - Race #9

#3 H Q Wilson	He goes for the new team off the layoff after what felt like a useful run on the main track last time out. He'll need to fire fresh, but he might get an OK run of things in a race without much proven finishing form.
#10 Maximon	Wouldn't argue much if you leaned hard here, as he's got honest form at the level and should get a perfect spying trip from out here. The main concern is that all of those things were true last time out, too. Dangerous, but tough to get excited about if the price is short.
#8 Mr American Pie	He has only shown a little bit of chasing pace so far, but I wonder if this turf sprint trip might be exactly what he needs. Wouldn't be a surprise on the drop.
Race Summary	H Q Wilson might be able to outfinish these from a spying spot while coming back fresh in a race where I don't see a ton of serious finishing form. Ready for better at this kind of trip?

Can run another good one in this contest. Has been close up on the wire most every time lately. SERENE SPIRIT - Will almost certainly compete admirably in the pace contest which bodes well with this group. Had one of the most competitive Equibase Speed Figures of this group of animals in her last affair. DESTINATION - Should come out very solid - I have liked the way this mare has moved quickly to the front end recently. Tough to pass on this mare with Briceno in the saddle.

SHE'S AN EARNER - A wise man taught me to play the lone speed horse. Take a look at this horse. You always have to be on the watch for money making jock/conditioner duos; we have one right here. The May 1st race at Oaklawn Park was at a class level of (78). Dropping to a lower class level significantly, so she should be in a good place.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 RHYTHM AND BRUISE (ML=4/1), #1 SIGNDSEALDDELIVERD (ML=5/1), #8 SISSY SOX (ML=6/1),

RHYTHM AND BRUISE - When scrutinizing today's class figure, she will have to register a much better speed fig than in the last race to be competitive in this dirt sprint. SIGNDSEALDDELIVERD - Will be hard for this animal to beat this bunch off of that last speed fig. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure close to today's class rating, so put her on the possibly overvalued equines list. SISSY SOX - Earned a substandard speed rating last out in a $30,000 Maiden Claiming race on May 16th. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that figure.

BEACH BEAMER - This colt has plenty of ability on the turf. Could be long gone by the time they hit the stretch. This colt garnered a good speed fig of 71 in his last race. That rating should be strong enough to triumph this time out. Have to make this colt a serious competitor; he comes off a solid outing on May 16th. DRAFT RIOTS - I believe that this shorter distance should help this gelding. Horse's last race was at Aqueduct in a race with a class figure of 80. Dropping significantly in class rating this time around puts him in a solid position today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 SOUPER DOCUMENT (ML=7/2), #1 WHALEAXE (ML=9/2), #7 IF EVER (ML=5/1),

SOUPER DOCUMENT - 7/2 odds isn't enough for this thoroughbred when looking at the most recent efforts. It appears like too much speed is signed up in this race. This speed merchant will probably get cooked up front. WHALEAXE - Not likely for this runner to do much this time. The very long layoff is a troublesome sign. Improbable that the speed fig he earned on October 17th will be enough in this affair. IF EVER - This colt hasn't had any strong efforts in sprint affairs in the last 60 days. That was simply not a very good showing in the last race.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - DRAFT RIOTS - One of the class angles that my good bud Steve and I play, is to look at the lifetime earnings per start. This thoroughbred is at the top in my book.
