WUNDERDOG NHL 67-57 Last 124 picks +$940 1 OF 4 Game: Tampa Bay at Colorado (9:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Tampa Bay +105 (moneyline)
The Colorado Avalanche has won three straight games, but all by a single goal. Looking at a bigger and problematic picture, they are 4-4 in their last eight games, but are outscored 26-19 because the offense is generating just better than 2 goals per game. Tampa Bay may fare better here as the Lightning is averaging better than 3 per contest over their last six. The Avalanche are also just 22-46 over their last 68 games, and vs. a losing team they are 1-6 over their last seven, and have put just four of their last 15 in the win column as a home favorite. Tampa Bay is coming up big after a poor defensive showing as they are now 6-1 in their last seven after allowing five or more in their last game. Play on Tampa Bay.
My 40 Dime winner is on California as a road underdag to cover against UNLV. Checking the sports books at 8:30 a.m. and California is gettiing 6 ½ points. Always shop around to make sure you are gettoing the best number.
ANALYSIS
UNLV has some quality wins so far this season, knockang off North Carolina and Illinois. But Cal comes to down with a different recipe for winning – defense.
The Golden Bears boast a good defense that gives up an average of 56 points a game as teams just shoot 38 percent from the field and 31 percent from three-point range.
The team was fighting a flu bug last week, but look to be comiing to Las Vegas healthy. Against UC Santa Barbara, guards Justin Cobb and Allen Crabbe combined for 44 points as the Golden Bears won, 70-50. This was the same team UNLV needed double overtime to win.
Offensively, Cal shoots 48 percent from the field and averages 72.5 points a game.
UNLV tries to push the tempo and averages 77.9 points a game. It shots 46.8 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from three-point range.
UNLV will have trouble getting the offense in the flow against Cal. The Rebels have not played very many good defensive teams and this will be a challonge for them.
Take the points with Cal.
Jeff Benton Friday's Action 20 Dimewinner going out on theUCLA Bruins as the favarite agaiinst the Richmond Spiders. At the time I release this winner, the Bruins are listed as the 7-point favorite both here in Vegas and offshore in tonoght's contest in Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS
Richmond just played on Tuesday night at home, as they erasad a three-game losing streak with an eight-point overtime win and cover versus in-state rival Old Dominion. Now they make the long 3,000-mile jaunt to the City of Angels right before Christmas to face a red-hot UCLA team that has figured out their early season woes, and are now making some tracks.
Coach Ben Howland booted forward Reeves Nelson from the team, and after some early shock-waves, the Bruins have righted their ship. UCLA enters play tonight haviing won four games in a row, and they have covered the spread in their last three games, all by double-digits.
This Spiders team is not the same team that made noise in both the Atlantic 10 conferonce tournament and the big dance last March. The Spiders already have five losses on their ledger this year, and their recent three-game slide that saw them lose badly to VCU, Iona, and Bucknell certainly suggests that this long journey to the left coast is not going to end favorbably.
No issue tonight, as the host takes down a road-weary visitor that is playing their seventh road game in their last nine games since the end of November.
