Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

                  June 8, 2026 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5 and it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

                  Race 6 (8:25 PM EST)

2-Keyang Taco A (6-1)-Shipped in from Hoosier and put in a decent effort in a 152.2 mile. Stayed inside finished 4th and was off over two weeks. This field isn’t as tough, and the team Stratton entry could be sitting on a big try.
4-Bet On Big Joe (9/5)-Joe was bet down to 8/5 and beat this kind 2 back from post 4. Competes but is only 1-15 this year. Could win again with another choice post and will use against this field. Does need the right trip and will offer no value.

                  Race 7 (8:45 PM EDT)

4-Soho Firestone (2-1)-Got the pocket off the gate in last and then settled for 3rd on the rail as the eventual winner took control. Could have been pulled at the top of the last turn but George Brennan stayed inside. Could get a pocket ride tonight, and with Yannick Gingras at the controls there could be a different outcome.
7-Sweet Beach Life (4-1)-As usual, flew off the gate and got the top last time but ended up in the pocket. The winner made an early move, got control, and couldn’t be caught down the lane. Comes back in sequence for the 2nd straight time and the beaten chalk could make amends.

                  Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)

1-Verdun (2-1)-Had the rail in last and dropped to face a field it could wire and did so. This time a 2-hole trip could be the ticket. Does step up, 3 others do the same, and won’t blush at the competition.
4-Captin Hamerhead (9/5)-Made a nice early move to get the top into a tepid opening quarter versus this kind. Scott Zeron worked a well rated 57.2 middle half and could not be touched down the lane. This will be the 3rd start in town, and might work the same game plan. Either way the 7-year-old could have more to give.

                  Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

4-Carabao (6-1>-Not an easy race to read and the 9-year-old has drawn post 8 in 3 straight since coming off the bench. With this post draw Jordan Stratton can have in play early on and faces a beatable field.
5-Stonebridge Wizard (5/2)-Lightly raced 4-year-old isn’t out of place in this hodgepodge field. Yannick Gingras takes the lines and should have the Bako trainee in a position to win at the top of the lane.
7-T H Tyson (5-1)-Jim Marohn sticks with the Chris Ryder entry after driving against better on 6-1. Raced evenly in last at 125-1, and could be overlooked here. Has hit the board in 4 of 8 at YR with 1 win and drops to a more competitive level. Could grind its way around and take a picture at a solid price.

                  $1 Late Pick 4

                  2,4/4,7/1,4/4,5,7
                  Total Bet=$24

                    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #4
#7 Final Minute Debuter looks to have been working well ahead of this one, and I'm not totally sold on anyone else lined up in here. Check him out on the tote and track, but he might be ready to score first out.
#5 Tipsy Mojo He has an experience edge on the top choice, but he only chased kind of mildly that day in a small field and might be a shorter price than he should be here.
#4 Steel of Fortune He's another fresh face, and he might be ready with some synthetic works at Turfway ahead of this. Seems interesting enough on paper.
Race Summary Final Minute and Tipsy Mojo go from the same barn, but the former is more interesting while going first time out. Take a look at him ahead of this, but I think he might be the right one.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#1 Stylet She's got honest form and some pace from the fence, and I just think her recent baseline stuff is good enough to handle this field.
#6 Image of Grace Think she's interesting at an OK price after a flat first try with winners last out, as she might be in line for a pretty good kind of trip in her first local start.
#3 Oh Sheila She might be forcing the issue with the top choice the entire way, and that might leave her in a perfect spot to take command if that one starts to pack things in for the day.
Race Summary Stylet looked good in her local debut when second, and she should be in the mix from the fence from the start. Think Image of Grace might be the appealing price play.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#4 Atwork There are a couple other potential forward players, but he might be the most committed to the front end with the sprint pace to find it. Let's see if he can control this and turn the next guy away.
#8 Reteko His route pace is probably sharp enough to stay up top early with Atwork, and he has been in some pretty sharp and consistent form over the last several months.
#5 Fistfulofmoney He ran on well last out and might be a touch more tactical in this one, and I think you can build a few excuses for some of the flatter tries on his page, leaving him with competitive lines on the page here.
Race Summary Atwork rediscovered his sprint pace last out and might be able to control the tempo here, and I wonder if he has a bit more upside in the third start of the season.

                        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

                        Louisiana Downs - Race #1
#4 RIPPLE’S ROCKET (7-5) Pressured by 1-to-9 winner, held second, tries to upstage in-money finishes.
#1 CAJUN SWAGGER (6-1) Finished ? of a length behind ‘Rocket’ off 3-month layoff and 4-wide trip.
#7 COLLECT NOW (4-1) Ran second in dirt sprint two back, between two rivals who had rough starts.
Race Summary RIPPLE’S ROCKET has speed and is acclimated locally after he finished a distant second to a 1-to-9 Churchill Downs shipper last out. Like his chances to break through in his fifth start at this level. Bet to win and place and play 4-1 and 4-7 exactas.
                        Louisiana Downs - Race #4
#3 GOTTA KEEP HIM (4-1) Exits super ‘key’ race, worked :36-2/5 from gate, hit board in 5 of 6 on turf.
#1 PENEI (8-1) Pulled up in three-peat bid at Fair Grounds, bounced back with near miss at this level.
#10 COBOCH (6-5) Ran away from two next-out victors, repeated in turf debut at this level for hot barn.
Race Summary GOTTA KEEP HIM is 1-for-15 on turf and winless at this distance, but he has run well with two-plus months off between starts and rallied into a slow pace to finish third for a higher claiming price on turf in the Fall. He last ran in a 7-1/2F dirt sprint that produced four next-out winners, two in allowance company. Bet to win and place and play 3-1 and 3-10 exactas.
                        Louisiana Downs - Race #7
#8 HE’S CHARLIE (3-1) Raced against track bias from post 10 off layoff, goes well in here.
#1 BEARCAT (5-2) Alert start, extra half-furlong and weight break could make winning difference.
#4 HUSTLIN’ MAN (5-1) Overcame brutal start and duel to romp in second start at this distance.
Race Summary HE’S CHARLIE, part of a formidable uncoupled entry for trainer Alan Klanfer, was in range of the even-money winner but lacked late kick in his seasonal debut. Speed dominated at Evangeline Downs that night and it didn’t help that he was 4-wide from post 10. Bet to win and place and play and 8/1, 2, 4, 6/ALL trifecta.

                              Louisiana Downs - Race #2 - Post: 4:33pm - Maiden Special - 8.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $23,000 Class Rating: 81

                              Rating:

                              #3 CLASSIC SENSATION (ML=7/2)

CLASSIC SENSATION - Ran in the last race against a tougher field at Louisiana Downs. The move down in class ranks should suit him well. Went a route in a Maiden Special race at Louisiana Downs last time out from an outside draw. Moving to the inside at a similar distance should benefit this gelding. Horse has improved at least two speed fig points in last two races. I look for that to continue its positive trend right here in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 ROYAL IRISH (ML=7/5), #1 MATCHING FUNDS (ML=2/1), #2 GOLDEN CITY STREET (ML=5/1),

ROYAL IRISH - Hard to back the public's choice when he continues to lose as the favorite. MATCHING FUNDS - Not the right 'placement' in this event. GOLDEN CITY STREET - Didn't hit the board on Apr 17th at Oaklawn Park. Followed it up with another less than stellar try. This gelding notched a speed figure in his last race which probably isn't good enough in today's event.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Turf Man - CLASSIC SENSATION - This gelding has the best turf speed rating in a route in the last eighteen months. Expect good things today.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #3 CLASSIC SENSATION on the win end if we get at least 1/1 odds
                              EXACTA WAGERS: 3 with 2
                              TRIFECTA WAGERS: Skip
