Getting a weight break of 5 lbs from last race at Laurel on June 7th. This should help right here. FAYES HEART - I think the shorter distance will help this gelding stay the distance. Was in a $12,500 Claiming race at Laurel in the last race. That clash had a class rating of 77 and he is moving down in today's race. A certain contender. The most recent speed fig of 64 is the top last race fig in the field.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 CLAVIN (ML=5/2), #7 EL JUNIOR (ML=9/2), #3 RAGING CAJUN (ML=8/1),

CLAVIN - The Brain cautions me to stay away from ponies in sprint contests that haven't finished in the money in short distance events recently. The Equibase speed figures are going downward. I'm not betting on this runner off of that trend. EL JUNIOR - Hard to support any animal with lessening speed figures of 70/67/59. This horse hasn't shown much effort in the last pair of races. RAGING CAJUN - Hard to back any equine with declining Equibase speed figures of 68/57/44. I find it hard to invest in this steed this time. LAVENDER EARL - Gelding's last work was second fastest of the day for the distance. This racer collects a lot of cash per start. I believe he will boost the lifetime earnings in this event. Closed well in last race. Longer distance should help. ROCKET HOTSHOT - This horse is very familiar with the winner's circle at Hawthorne. I expect a repeat effort in this event. Looking at today's class figure, this thoroughbred is encountering an easier bunch than last out at Hawthorne. Look two races back where the horse finished second. You can excuse the last race where he bounced a bit. I see a return to form today. REGIMENTAL - Last out, this one was in a race at Hawthorne in a race with a class figure of 79. Dropping considerably in class rating in today's event puts him in a solid position right here. This campaigner coming off a nice contest in the last month or so is a solid contender in my book. WESTEROS - Was in a non-classified race race at Hawthorne last race out. That contest had a class figure of 88 and he is moving down in today's race. A certain contender. This horse looks good today. Hasn't done much lately, but did win a $5,000 Claiming race on May 3rd. This animal didn't run well on a sloppy track in his last start at Hawthorne. You may want to disregard that showing.

The racing week in Kentucky concludes with a solid 11-race card that kicks off at 12:45 PM eastern. It marks the final card before Churchill Downs hits their final week of racing until September. Next weekend should be a banger with the Stephen Foster (G1) headlining a massive card in Louisville on Saturday and mandatory payouts in all pools on Sunday. However, first things first. Let’s see if we can keep a bit of momentum going with a few spot plays this afternoon.


Race 4:
My first play on the Sunday slate comes in this $75k maiden claimer at 1 1/16-miles over the grass where #4 Daring Madison was made the understandable 3-1-ML favorite. The Rigney Racing filly stretched out to a route of ground and moved to the sod for the first time on May 29 and ran pretty well on just 20 days rest. That said, she is likely to get over bet considering the runner that cruised by her easily in the lane came into that race 0 for 18. She retains Jose Ortiz and should be prominent early on, but I cannot swallow her likely off odds.
Instead, I will try #8 Babysitter. The daughter of McKinzie debuted for her original barn on the grass at Saratoga last summer and tired badly after being mid-pack early. She did not return to the races until she was in the hands of Brendan Walsh and at Turfway Park in late February. None of her three starts in Kentucky are overly impressive, but they have all come against MSW competition. Plus, she has the pedigree on the dam side to love the grass being out of a Kitten’s Joy mare that won 2 of her 3 races on the turf and a younger sister to $270k+ earner over the lawn Be My Sunshine. A move forward is well within the range of outcomes.

Race 7:
My next play comes in this $80k non-winners of two at one-mile over the grass where I am hopeful the pace is honest. If so, I love the chances of #10 Plot. The Tommy Drury Jr. trainee has turned a corner since Drury added blinkers and put him back into two-turn turf races this spring. He was out of the gates poorly on April 30, but rallied nicely to finish second versus $50k maiden claimers and then broke a bit cleaner and was given an overall better ride by Christian Torres in his first career victory less than three weeks ago. Torres took over in the saddle that afternoon and is back again. If he can avoid, a wide trip into the first turn, this daughter of Blame should be rolling late in her first start against winners. I need the ML price at least though to go to the windows given the outside draw, her running style, and the step up in class.

Race 9:
My final play of the week comes in this first-level allowance for 3YOs+ travelling 7-furlongs over the main track where #8 Bold Strength is expected to take a lot of public support. The Juddmonte colt comes in off a pair of runner-up efforts in New York for Brad Cox and lures Irad Ortiz Jr. He is obviously capable, but that will almost definitely be reflected on the tote. Therefore, I will look elsewhere to the lightly-raced #2 Envision. The son of Into Mischief is out of the LNJ Foxwoods beautiful white mare Dreamologist. I got to see her run multiple times during my time in Southern California and she had some serious talent. She has been solid as a broodmare as well producing three-time winner Striker and a few other winners and this guy did nothing wrong on debut winning despite drawing the rail at Turfway Park back in late December. He obviously moves up in class and has to prove himself over the dirt, but comes in off a strong series of drills for one of the hottest trainers around. The upside is there to take a swing, assuming he does not take much money at the windows.

Race 2 (6:22 PM CDT)

4-Ashton Hill Dave (9/2)-My guess is the veteran could offer more than the 9/2 morning line and finally lands an inside post. Has been stuck with outside draws 8-9-8 and has taken the long way around in the last 3 races. This will be the 4th race at Aces this season and should get an up-close seat tonight. Luke Plano sticks and will look for an aggressive drive. Has been trying hard and could get rewarded tonight.

4-Ashton Hill Dave (9/2) playing to Win

4-6-7

Race 6 (7:50 PM CDT)

8-Inferno DK (5/2)-Left from post 5 last time, tried to go gate to wire but fell a head short and finished 2nd. Rosecroft shipper was facing Open company there and hit the board in 9 of 17 races but had only 1 win. Went off at 8/5 last time and will look for a better price leaving from post 8. This is the 2nd start in town and doesn't have to be leading every step of the way to beat this field. Brady Jensen entry should be a main player.

8-Inferno DK (5/2) playing to Win

Race 7 (8:12 PM CDT)

7-K T Part E (7/2)-This is an Elim for a upcoming Stakes Race and should have no problem qualifying for the Final. The question is how much effort will be put into this start? This is the sharpest horse, comes off a win 2 back, then a 2nd place finish in 151.4 in last, and the winner isn't in this field. The post draw helps the price. This is another Team Jensen entry, and should be racing at the top of the stack before the last turn. Could beat this crew without emptying the tank despite leaving from the outside post.

Churchill Downs - Race #4

#5 Cynical Humor	There are a couple of OK names on her page from those past races, and she gets in for a tag for the first time today while maybe capable something a bit better than we saw last out. Some questions to answer -- may help keep the price fair.
#2 Long Live	She was a distant runner-up in the debut try, so there's some natural upside while going second out and trying the turf for a top team. Wouldn't surprise.
#4 Daring Madison	Wouldn't argue too hard with you if you landed here -- she proved a good fit with similar when second last out and might get a pretty sweet run in a race without much pace.
Race Summary	Cynical Humor has some midrange price appeal in a race without any real standouts. She's out of special weight company for the first time in her career and could be a touch more tactical today.

Churchill Downs - Race #9

#8 Bold Strength	Not a fan of the likely price, but I think he's going to be tough if he holds that recent form today. He has proven form against some of these and should get a perfect trip right up on the pace.
#1 Only Phil	Half to Derby runner-up Two Phil's moved forward nicely in the Ellis graduation run last summer, and he should be in line for a similar kind of tracking trip while racing fresh. Dangerous if he's ready to roll -- and keep an eye on him later...could be fun when he goes long.
#2 Envision	The Turfway debut score in December was pretty solid, and I suppose the talent might be there to stay in the picture with this crew if he has moved forward since that run six months ago.
Race Summary	Bold Strength is likely to be tough in here -- he has the pace to get a good trip right up on the splits, and he has already beaten some of the main players in here. Only Phil is the most reasonable alternative.

Churchill Downs - Race #10

#2 Gigabit	She rolled at 8/5 on the main last out, but the turf starts last season were both pretty solid, and she might have some room to improve on those as a better horse today than she was then.
#9 Cloe	Think her best stuff probably gets the job done here, and she gets a good setup from close range while racing in behind a small handful of more committed pace and pressing types. Lots to like.
#6 Dangherecomesshang	She makes a lot of sense in here, but the one she beat last out has become a bit of a nibbler, and I wonder if a lot of action is going to land here on the tote. One of the ones for sure.
Race Summary	Main worry for me is that there are a couple of other pretty quick horses who might put pressure on Gigabit early, but I have a little bit of confidence that she can tap on the brakes a touch if needed.
