Jeremy Plonk: Bet $100, Get $10 Finger Lakes Key Plays | Tuesday,

    July 13, 2026 | By Jeremy Plonk

Throughout July, Tuesdays and Thursdays heat up at 1/ST BET and Xpressbet with our Red, White & Bet promotion. Bet $100, Get $10 on select tracks this month. Next up Tuesday will be Finger Lakes. Here’s how I’ll approach the card in New York with an assist from the Betmix Angler database.

Finger Lakes Race 2 | 1:24 pm ET
#6 The Brown Egg (7-2 morning line odds) showed vast improvement last out when dropping to this class level and adding blinkers. Horse who finished ahead of him there came back to beat winners next out by 6-1/2 lengths. Trainer Charlie Baker has won with 4 of 9 local starters in recent weeks. Win bet #6. Picks: 6-1-3.

Finger Lakes Race 6 | 3:20 pm ET
#7 Banking Silver (3-1 morning line odds) steps up in class naturally off a good maiden-breaker June 22, the classic “nibbler breaks out” candidate after several close losses. These types often win right back. No barn hotter than Rachel Sells in recent weeks at Finger Lakes and note this one beat an Aqueduct debut runner-up for Miguel Clement in that last win, a strong rival for a FL maiden heat. Even sprinter should like the route and barn excels with the stretch-outs. Win bet #7. Picks: 7-1-6.

      #3
      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#5 Ohoopee Think she's supposed to be tough right back after handling some of these on the lead last time out, as I don't think there's much reason to doubt she can control the tempo again with these today. Dangerous right up top the whole way.
#3 Miss Thalia She's a new face who might get an OK trip while sitting close to the top choice throughout, and she's probably competitive at this level on the price drop. Wouldn't argue too hard with you if you landed here as an alternative to the top choice.
#7 Mistrial Wind Route pace turns back for this one and might find an OK kind of tracking trip from the high draw today, and she obviously likes the local footing. Worth a look at this trip over this surface.
Race Summary Ohoopee was 30 cents on the dollar when easily handling some of these last time out, and she's in line to get a similar outcome today if she can just hold that form. The race shape works in her favor again.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#4 Ms Brightside She beat a decent runner in the local debut and has some finishing punch in a race with a few forward players who might be ready to get scooped up in the lane. Can win right back.
#3 Stylet She has been OK going long before and has some stretchout pace that should keep her right up near the top early on with this group -- not sure if that's a good thing or not, though. My favorite of the forward players.
#2 Athaliah Speed goes second off the bench after a useful comeback score on the turf in Indiana, but I'm not totally sold she has a great rating gear, and I think there is enough speed to make things tough for her.
Race Summary Looking for someone to run from a bit off the pace in here, and Ms Brightside should be the one to do it. A few potential pace horses should ensure at least an honest pace for her rally.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#8 Xmas in Cairo Think pretty highly of the next one's pace, but I think this filly is going to be in a prime spot to sit just behind that speed and take a shot on the far turn. Think she's going to like it here -- Cairo Prince runners are a flat-bet ROI winner here over the last couple years.
#4 Justifiable Steel She's got to prove she fits in this allowance spot, but the simultaneous move into statebred company might help her make the step after a couple of sharp scores in her last two starts in Indiana. Upside here in the second start back while controlling the tempo. Lots to like.
#6 Omikami Her form is always all over the place, but she has bounced back from dreadful tries in the past, so there's some potential for a better finishing effort today at a nice price. Not particularly excited about her, but I do wonder if you can forgive her for the last couple after running that big three-back effort when second to today's top choice.
Race Summary Xmas in Cairo is a strong lean to end the day -- think she's tactical enough to keep tabs on Justifiable Steel, and she's bringing that really solid Penn form with her to the local debut. Believe she'll win this if she doesn't hate the footing.

        #4
        Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

        Fairmount Park - Race #2
#6 TAPINYOURBLUEJEANS (9-5) Slowed by pace and class-dropping winner, gets in light.
#4 BLURT (15-1) Can carry speed farther in this spot, has nine wins at this distance.
#3 JET FLIGHT (Even) Piled up the checks at Hawthorne, overmatched in local bow.
Race Summary TAPINYOURBLUEJEANS was up against a slow pace while chasing odds-on winner Gold Smoke (8-37, $115k), who was exiting allowance company. He sheds 7 pounds for his third start of a cycle and second off the Martinez claim. Bet to win and place and play 6-3 and 6-4 exactas.
        Fairmount Park - Race #3
#2 TRICKY HUMOR (4-1) Chased short-priced faves in fast debut, good value play in here.
#7 AVERYZ DAY (8-5) Rallied for minor awards in last three sprints and a MSW route race.
#6 SOUL KEEPER (9-5) Stepped it up a notch for bullet gate work, gets Lasix for debut.
Race Summary TRICKY HUMOR debuted in Maiden Special Weight company, chased the 8-to-5 winner and 6-to-5 runner-up while 4-wide on the turn and faded to fifth on a muddy track. But the race timed 3/5 of a second faster than a $20,000 optional claiming race that followed on the July 4 card. Bet to win and place and play a 2/3, 6, 7/3, 6, 7 trifecta.
        Fairmount Park - Race #6
#6 LADY ELISE (2-1) Could takes some catching in first long-distance test in third start this year.
#8 MIDNIGHT DATE (12-1) Proven one-mile form, second start off layoff, use in all gimmicks.
#1 RAZ ON FIRE (4-1) Ended long bout with seconditis with victory at this distance.
Race Summary LADY ELISE is re-united with Illinois-bred rivals after a useful try in an open allowance sprint. She was bumped at the start in the race prior and “battled hard” into the lane while unable to match strides with the top two finishers who stand a combined 8-for-32 with $200k in earnings. Bet to win and place and play a 6, 8/1, 2, 6, 8 exacta.

              # 3 SOUTH OF BIRMINHAM 6/1
GRACE MET CUPID looks to be a decent contender. He has been running admirably and the Equibase Speed Figures are among the strongest in this field. A solid 75 avg class figure may give this colt a distinct class edge versus this field. Has put up formidable Equibase Speed Figures in dirt sprint races in the past. BANDOLERO - The average class figure of 59 makes this horse hard to beat. Trainer boasts sharp win figures at this distance and surface. SOUTH OF BIRMINHAM - Has earned solid Equibase Speed Figures in dirt sprint races in the past.

                # 7 UNBRIDLED BOMBER 10/1
                # 8 DREAMS OF MYFATHER 3/1
URANIUM is the best bet in this race. Might best this group of animals here, showing very good figures of late. Has to be given consideration for this race if only for the solid speed fig posted in the last race. Seems to have a solid class edge based on the most recent company kept. DREAMS OF MYFATHER - Must be given consideration based on the quite good Equibase Speed Figure put up in the last contest. Lately Elliott has been hot which may give the edge to this gelding.

                  Thistledown - Race #2 - Post: 1:20pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $21,900 Class Rating: 71

                  Rating:

                  #8 JOHN FITZGERALD (ML=8/1)
                  #6 SOCIAL HISTORY (ML=9/2)

JOHN FITZGERALD - Ran last out against a tougher field at Thistledown. The move to a lower class level should suit him well. Have to like the way Sweeting has raced this gelding back into shape off the layoff. Horse is well spotted in this sprint and I think he'll run well today. SOCIAL HISTORY - This race horse should be thundering in the homestretch.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #4 THAT'S THE WAY (ML=5/2), #2 REIGNING DREAM (ML=7/2), #7 OLLIE'S FOLLY (ML=4/1),

THAT'S THE WAY - Usually I need a sprinter to have some recent success in short distance races in order to support him. REIGNING DREAM - Hasn't finished in the money in any short distance races lately. Not probable to see him doing it in today's event either. OLLIE'S FOLLY - In the last event this less than sharp equine finished fourth. Doesn't bode well for his chances this time around.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #8 JOHN FITZGERALD is going to be the play if we are getting 2/1 or better

                    Parx Racing - Race #4 - Post: 2:01pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $50,000 Class Rating: 72

                    Rating:

                    #5 IRISH MAMBA (ML=5/2)
                    #1 WHO'S YOUR HATTIE (ML=5/1)

IRISH MAMBA - I expect this horse to bewilder some handicappers this time around. WHO'S YOUR HATTIE - The jock/trainer pair of Vargas and Lake has a strong return on investment together. Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this thoroughbred is up against an easier group than in the last race at Monmouth Park. This colt recorded a good fig of 76 in his last event. That speed figure should be high enough to win this time.

                    Vulnerable Contenders: #6 A OH GEE (ML=3/1), #4 BROTHER ENERGY (ML=7/2), #7 COME OUT AND PLAY (ML=5/1),

A OH GEE - Likely won't make much of an impression this time. BROTHER ENERGY - Improbable for this one to do much running with no success lately in a sprint contest. COME OUT AND PLAY - Doesn't seem to be in a cozy spot in today's event.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #5 IRISH MAMBA to win at post-time odds of 9/5 or better
                    EXACTA WAGERS: Box [1,5]
                    TRIFECTA WAGERS: Pass
