    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Thistledown - Race #4
#2 It's Last Call Think he's going to be in line for a great trip while stretching out, and his local two-turn tries have been pretty solid. Dangerous with first run.
#3 America Lives He drilled a soft group at Mountaineer to graduate last time out, but his only other career dirt try also wasn't that bad, so he might just be finding his home right now.
#1 Astro Beau He's capable of something better than he showed last time out and would be in the picture here if he were able to get back to something like the two-back run.
Race Summary It's Last Call should get the run of the race here and might offer a mildly playable number with a couple of dull route races on his page from those Mahoning tries late last year.
    Thistledown - Race #6
#2 Suzie Q's Sister She couldn't stay late last out when fading behind some of the same ones she'll meet today, but she has room for better with that comeback run under her belt, and she might find herself on on the front end without too much heat.
#5 Unfaithful Rose She's supposed to hit pretty hard here on class while dropping out of a couple stakes spots, and prior to that she was a really good third in what turned out to be a pretty deep Fair Grounds allowance spot. The obvious one to beat.
#3 Honduras Passion She ran on well in the last one when beating a few of these, but I don't totally trust her to back that run up today in a spot without a great race shape.
Race Summary Suzie Q's Sister has some bounce-back appeal here after the fading run off the bench, and the presence of Unfaithful Rose should keep the prices playable just about everywhere else.
    Thistledown - Race #7
#5 Coloryoureggs Dropper is one of a few with a similar kind of pressing style in here, but she's quick enough to maybe find the front and owns a handful of local races on her page that would probably get the job done today.
#4 Instigation She should also be right up in the mix early, but I have a mild worry that her best game is pressing the pace, and the fact that she draws right inside of a pair of other forward players could lead to a tricky trip.
#2 Commissioner D Something like the last would make her tough again, but I worry she's not going to get the greatest setup for her finishing kick today. Player.
Race Summary Coloryoureggs should be right up on the pace from the start here, and she has some room to rebound after the stakes try last out. The form on her page looks pretty sharp once you draw a line through all the stakes starts.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Woodbine - Race #5
#7 MIDNITE SADIE (2-1) Appears rounding to another good effort, could hold tactical advantage.
#4 WHERE’S SAMNBAILEY #4 WHERE’S SAMNBAILEY (5-2) Steady form against better, took on boys in latest, third start this year.
#2 LA BELVA (8-1) Showed pulse when she avoided trouble lines, equipment change should help.
Race Summary MIDNITE SADIE wore blinkers and earned her top speed figure in a maiden-breaking victory. She defeated a follow-up winner, draws favorably and could get the jump on her main rivals with an extra half-furlong to navigate. Bet to win and place and play a 7/2, 3, 4/ALL trifecta.
      Woodbine - Race #6
#6 INDY ONE (8-1) Ideal bounce back spot to try and remain perfect at this distance.
#2 POSEIDON STEEL (3-1) Firing bullets in the morning, gets needed class relief.
#5 ARABIAN PRINCE (2-1) Won the duel, settled for second best as record fell to 3-for-45.
Race Summary INDY ONE lost ground throughout in a shorter sprint in his second start this year, but he won 5 of his 8 previous starts with an average 78 Beyer, including both at 6-1/2F. Bet to win and place and play 6-1, 6-2 and 6-5 exactas.
      Woodbine - Race #8
#7 HIGHLAND LIFE (6-1) Duplicate off-pace tactics from three starts ago could serve him well at 6F.
#8 HARPER CITY (5-2) Runaway upsetter in seasonal debut shows fastest-of-78 workout since then.
#1 CADFAEL (8-1) No match for ‘Harper’ but sheds 6 pounds for new barn at two-time winning distance.
Race Summary HIGHLAND LIFE gets class relief for his third start of a cycle after chasing a repeat winner. He often races close-up, but he earned his top speed figure from off the pace three starts ago, a more likely scenario in this field. He doesn’t win often but give him the nod for a win and place bet.

            # 8 MICANOPY 15/1
EXHIBITION ONLY is my choice. Has strong early speed and will almost certainly fare admirably against this field. Win percentage one of the strongest in this group of animals. Ranked high in earnings per start at the distance/surface in this field. GETHSEMANE - May best this field here, showing very good figures of late. This colt has been consistently running well in his latest outings. MICANOPY - This gelding has posted some nice finishes in his last few starts. Is a strong contender based on figs garnered as of late under today's conditions.

              Belterra Park - Race #7 - Post: 1:57pm - Claiming - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $9,600 Class Rating: 66

              Rating:

              #3 GIGGITY (ML=4/1)
              #6 CHASING GRAY (ML=3/1)

GIGGITY - Have to make this gelding a contender; he comes off a nice race on Jun 18th. This jock/conditioner duo has been producing a high winning percentage, right around 33. I like the fact that this gelding's last speed rating, 70, is tops in this group. Should do well in this event. Weight shift of -7 from June 18th race at Belterra Park. CHASING GRAY - Gelding won shipping here on June 10th and looks good right back. You always have to be on the prowl for money generating rider/conditioner tandems; we have one right here. After the contest aboard this horse on June 10th, the rider is going to know the gelding much better. 17-37-59 are last three speed ratings. Improving each time out is something he should do again in this event.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 CAN OF CORN (ML=2/1), #4 A CAB ON THE ROCKS (ML=5/1), #2 FRAME UP (ML=8/1),

CAN OF CORN - In the last event this runner finished seventh. Doesn't bode well for his chances this time out. A CAB ON THE ROCKS - 5/1 odds isn't enough for this participant when looking at the most recent outings. Difficult to put your dough on this speedball. Too much early zip in the race. Earned a mediocre speed figure last time around the track in a $15,000 Claiming race on June 3rd. Not probable to see an improved performance off of that fig. FRAME UP - This thoroughbred likes to land in the top three, but doesn't usually finish on top. Leave out of the top spot. Today's contest is 6 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't hit the board in a sprint race in the last couple of months. Not the best of omens.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #3 GIGGITY to win at post-time odds of 7/5 or better

                Woodbine - Race #2 - Post: 3:42pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $36,100 Class Rating: 60

                Rating:

                #4 TOO MANY AMYS (ML=6/1)
                #6 CAN'T ARGUE THAT (ML=7/2)

TOO MANY AMYS - I definitely see good things for this racer right here. CAN'T ARGUE THAT - Have to make this filly a serious competitor; she comes off a good race on Jun 25th. It looks like Moran had to 'know' this filly on June 25th when riding her for the initial time. Back on again today. Lasix can take some getting used to, especially for a filly. They usually hit stride the 2nd time using it, like we have with this horse.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #3 BUTTERFLY BILLIE (ML=8/5), #2 CRUMLIN FASHION (ML=9/5), #5 HATRIXIE MOMENT (ML=8/1),

BUTTERFLY BILLIE - I can't play this continual non-winner. Gets the task executed from time to time. Once you've got at least ten races at the oval and still have no victories, its tough to break through for a victory. CRUMLIN FASHION - Most of the time I need a sprinter to have some recent success in short distance contests in order to back her. Hard to support any horse with deteriorating speed figures of 73/58/41. HATRIXIE MOMENT - Doubtful for this thoroughbred to do much running with no recent success in a sprint race.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: #4 TOO MANY AMYS to win at post-time odds of 3/1 or better
                EXACTA WAGERS: Box [4,6]

                  # 4 EYE AM TUFF 10/1
                  # 1 ROCK SOLID STONES 5/1
KVN VALIANT CORONA is my choice. Is hard not to consider based on Equibase Speed Figures which have been formidable - 67 avg - of late. Ought to come out very strong - I have liked the way this gelding has moved sharply to the lead recently. He should have a strong showing versus this easier bunch. EYE AM TUFF - Is hard not to examine based on Equibase Speed Figures which have been formidable - 61 avg - of late. Looks quite good to be up on the front end at the first call.
