Brian Nadeau: Gulfstream Monday Full-Card Analysis | July 20

      July 20, 2026 | By 1/ST BET

Gulfstream's second week of Monday racing features 9 races beginning at 12:20 pm ET. It's a Raibow 6 mandatory payout Monday with $26K in the carryover and a pool expected to reach $400K. The $3 Players Late Pick 3 has a 1 Million 1/ST Rewards Points Hit & Split when you play with 1/ST BET and Xpressbet, and the Summer Sweep 5 wager matching races from Gulfstream & Parx has a carryover north of $7,000 and 10X 1/ST Rewards Points offered on its wagers. To help you navigate the waters, Gulfstream handicapper Brian Nadeau has his full-card analysis and picks.

      Race 1:

The two turf races from 3 ZEVI’S ZONE beat these, so while his lack of early speed isn’t ideal, there’s enough zip signed on to set him up late. The wildcard is 7 PROST, who is in for a tag off a long break and has never tried turf, but he won off works in his debut, which helps alleviate at least some of the worry. Good luck with 5 CAJUN GOLD, who has speed and the best turf races, but doesn’t look the same, and the pick easily beat him two-back too. SELECTIONS: 3-7-5-6

      Race 2:

A drop and the ability to settle a bit makes 4 FEAR imposing at this level, especially since he did well to draw outside the speed too. Recent N2L winners 6 VELOCIRAPTOR and 7 BEAUTY BOLT both looked good drawing off, though this is a much tougher group today on the rise. SELECTIONS: 4-6-7-5

      Race 3:

The first start on the main with Lasix resulted in a 7-length win from 3 STREET BELLE, and while this is much tougher today, the price will be right, and she meets what could be some vulnerable favorites too. Which leads us to 4 SECANE, who figures to be bet hard for Saffie, while adding Lasix, but she’s been off since March and her form soured badly when last seen too, so let’s try to beat her on top. Let’s do the same with stablemate 2 CANTON, another who will be overbet for Saffie but is slow on paper, with no real upside either. SELECTIONS: 3-4-2-1

      Race 4:

You should get fair value to see if 6 PEACETHRUSTRENGTH can improve enough to beat tons tougher than he did in an 8k N2L on Tapeta in December, but note how good—and fast—that turf 2nd was when last seen, which says he may be that much better now. They’re all looking up at 3 LONGBRANCH LOU, but he’s won by a nose in his last two, whereas he would usually win much more easily, so his margin for error is a slim one at false odds. What a brutal loss if you had 7 GIVE ME LIBERTY, who was 3 lengths clear of ‘Lou last time before being nailed, which makes you wonder if he’s regressing today. SELECTIONS: 6-3-7-5

      Race 5:

There’s very little to go on with the 2yos, so tab the tote, but 5 THANKS CHARLIE worked 21 1/5 at the sale, backed it up with a bullet 7/11, drew well, and meets a weak favorite, so let’s put him on top. You just can’t lead with 1 STRIKE, who has failed at 1/5, 1/5, and even-money in three starts, and now has to run to the regular finish line too, while already giving it up twice going to the shorter line. David is just 3-for-46 with firsters, so there’s a good chance 2 TOMMY’S MIRACLE needs this. SELECTIONS: 5-1-2-8

      Race 6:

It’s Best Bet time with 1 IRONSIDES off a strong and troubled 2nd last time, and with a good post, and recency edge on the (ML) favorite, he looks primed. A November layoff and short price aren’t ideal with 6 ASSERTIVENESS, but he’ll be bet hard for Saffie and the race goes through him, though this is the time to try and beat. First time Barboza means you can expect a big run from 2 PARIS SURPRISE, who will also love getting out of a strong local stakes. SELECTIONS: 1-6-2-5

      Race 7:

You have to think big improvement is coming from 2 VANISH now that she’s in with Saffie, who immediately runs her on the dirt for the first time and take blinkers off, which means she could blow up for a barn that is 27% with newcomers. If the dirt isn’t the answer, then 4 ZANY LADY will be tough off that fast 2nd last time, which would be way too much for the rest of these. The gap to said rest, including 8 JAMAICAN DESTINY, is a big one. SELECTIONS: 2-4-8-11

      Race 8:

Trying to kick off a Van Winkle late DD with 3 JADES JAY, who should like the cutback to one-turn, has the tactical speed to be close, and shows a few dirt races that could scare these. You have to wonder when 7 BROTHER BRAD is going to stub his toe after so many good—and hard—races of late, though D’Angelo is 22% off-the claim, so a third straight win may be coming. The wildcard is 2 ZOZAN, off since 9/20 but working big for his first for Castro, who has been firing all meet long. SELECTIONS: 3-7-2-6

      Race 9:

It’s Longshot time in the finale with 5 SMART STRIKER, who is back on turf for Van Winkle, while showing a few Tampa races that could play here, and noting he should get a hot pace to rally into. Clearly they all have to beat 1 JAYHAWK, who goes for his fourth in a row, though there’s other speed, and he oddly drops, so there are potential questions here. Not sure what you’ll get from 8 QUIZLER, a voided claim two-back before a Tapeta sprint no-show, but at least he’s back routing on turf. SELECTIONS: 5-1-8-7

Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Spot Plays

        July 20, 2026 | By Al Cimaglia

Yonkers Raceway has a 10-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 starts in Race 5 and tonight due to a carryover it has a $30,000 guaranteed pool. The Spot Plays are in Race 4, Race 5, and Race 10. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

        Race 4 (7:45 PM EDT)

2-TH Colby (9/2)-Recent form is good and has been in the mix hitting the board in 4 straight starts at Yonkers (5-0-2-3-). Looks attractive at the morning line price as Yannick Gingras takes the lines. The Burke barn has been clicking, and this pilot posts 21% winners for this outfit. Faces the same kind, will look for Gingras to squeeze a little more out of the 4-year-old, and this is a beatable field.

        2-5-6

Using #2 TH Colby in a Win Bet

        Race 5 (8:05 EDT)

3-Donegal Luther N (9/2)-This is an on and off sort that drops to a soft spot. Will toss last against a tough crowd in Philly, they aren't going to the half in .53 flat tonight. Could beat these with a big effort and this should be GO Time.

        3-6-4

Playing #3 Donegal Luther N to Win

        Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

5-Full Support (4-1)-One-move type did win 2 back off an efficient trip from the rail versus this kind. Has put forth a top effort in every other start over the last 6 races. Fits with this kind, and this is the "other" start that should lead to a strong try at a square price.

        5-4-1

Using #5 Full Support in a Win Bet

          Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #1
#1 Loan Me a Dime Nothing major to write home about on paper from those who have raced, and he's the most interesting of the fresh faces on paper. Check him out on the tote and track.
#6 Spartan Reign Wonder if he's going to need a race, but he draws well if he has any kind of spying/midpack speed out of the box -- another worth looking at ahead of this.
#4 Stanz Coming He has some fairly honest form so far that might be enough to keep him in the frame with this crew if none of the firsters are anything special. Main worry is that he doesn't finish his races with much enthusiasm.
Race Summary Check out all the new faces in the paddock and parade and trust your gut -- think Loan Me a Dime is going to be the right one in here.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #3
#3 Mitole Magic She looks quickest early in a spot without any pace, and any move forward off the comeback score would probably make her tough. Dangerous race shape for her today.
#1 Austere She might roll this group on class, having missed by just a length in Grade III company in May, but this is a sharper one-turn trip than she's used to in a field without a ton of early speed. I dunno....
#2 Candy Reward She has occasionally shown enough tactical pace to sit close to the top choice early on, but she has also been a little flat in the two runs so far this year. Not sure.
Race Summary Mitole Magic's speed seems like the right lean for me in here, as she's not super cheap speed, having put a local stakes placing on her page last year.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#5 Rocket Rania Taking a little swing here. She's back fresh with a perfect slate so far after two starts, but she's getting a big class test while meeting a couple of pretty serious stakes players listed next. That said, she has looked like you'd want her to in beating those softer groups, and this feels like an aggressive comeback spot, which I don't dislike.
#3 Quiet Street Actually like her quite a bit in here while turning back to a sprint trip, as she posted her only two wins going short and might like the local footing. Just worry that some of the class on her page and the connections will make the price shorter than I want. At something like the 3/1 ML price? In.
#8 Smooch Up Maybe she's the one that helps keep the number playable on a horse like Quiet Street -- she's perfect over the local footing and has shown some versatility to win up top or from off the pace. Dangerous.
Race Summary Rocket Rania is a wildcard here. She has never been over the local surface and brings a couple winds from Mountaineer and Horseshoe Indianapolis with her. Think her tactical speed gets her the right trip to see if she can hang.

            Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

            Louisiana Downs - Race #2
#6 CAPTAIN BLOOD (6-1) Tactical advantage could lead to repeat victory from up close off the claim.
#5 REBEL MOON (7-2) Rallied for second in fast-paced turf route two back, broke maiden at distance.
#7 TYLER’S TURN (9-5) Late runner gets class relief, has best numbers, makes first start as a gelding.
Race Summary CAPTAIN BLOOD survived a stretch-long duel with the 3-to-5 favorite to break his maiden at Lone Star. Just as revealing, he raced closer to the pace with blinkers on for the first time, a tactic that will serve him well in this field for his new connections. The 3-year-old also shows a pair of fast workouts before he broke slowly in his prior start. Bet to win and place and play a 4-5-6-7 exacta box.
            Louisiana Downs - Race #3
#4 DON’T ASK DON’T Begins his quest for a half million in turf earnings at age 12.
#2 THAT’S RIGHT (3-2) Also boasts $450k grass bankroll, faced much better the last two winless years.
#8 CASTILLE (20-1) Won with second-time blinkers, fastest-of-36 work since then, unproven on turf.
Race Summary The iron horse, DON’TTALK DON’TTELL, is back to begin his 12-year-old season. He’s 6/2-3-1 on turf since May 2025 with an average 76 Beyer. He finished second to Gentle Soul (9-31, $327k) off a two-month rest and finished third in his only grass sprint during that time frame to Fit to Fly (11-25, $241k). Bet to win and place and play 2-4, 4-2 and 4-8 exactas.
            Louisiana Downs - Race #6
#6 GOLDEN CITY (9-2) Improved numbers, ran past the clear leader under same conditions at 7F.
            #4 WHERE’S AUNT J (4-1) Ran 1-2 in 7 of 11 starts here, mostly at the $5,000 level, carries 127 pounds.
#7 CLEVER RACE (6-1) Adds blinkers, tries to recapture back-to-back winning form at Delta to start year.
Race Summary GOLDEN CITY won four of her last six starts against Louisiana breds and seeks a repeat victory after catching the 8-to-5 pace setter at 7F last out. She returns under the same conditions at a shorter sprint distance. Bet to win and place and play 6.4, 6-7 and 4-6 exactas.

                  Race 1 - Claiming - 5.0f on the Turf. Purse: $40000 Class Rating: 79

GP - R1 - FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 122 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $30,000, IF FOR $25,000, ALLOWED 2 LBS.
                  RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                  # 5 CAJUN GOLD 3/1
                  # 3 ZEVI'S ZONE 5/2
                  # 2 SEAN NOS DANCING 10/1
I think CAJUN GOLD is a very good choice. Has been racing quite well and has among the best speed in the race for today's distance. He should be carefully examined given the formidable speed numbers. Should come out sharp - I have liked the way this gelding has moved promptly to the front end recently. ZEVI'S ZONE - Make a note that this one runs with second time Lasix today. Could beat this group given the 72 speed fig recorded in his last outing. SEAN NOS DANCING - Must be given a chance in this race if only for the decent speed rating put up in the last contest.

                    RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                    # 1 GRAND WARRIOR (JPN) 7/5
                    # 2 PRINCESSONAMISSION 9/2
                    # 3 POWAQA 10/1
I think GRAND WARRIOR (JPN) is a respectable choice. Will almost certainly compete admirably in the pace battle which bodes well with this group of horses in this race. Must be considered a definite contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. Look for this animal to be close up at the wire versus these racers. PRINCESSONAMISSION - Could provide positive dividends based on solid recent speed figures with an average of 61. Should come out strong - I have liked the way this mare has moved rapidly to the front end recently. POWAQA - Had one of the most favorable Equibase Speed Figures of this group in her last contest. Reliable average speed figures in dirt route races make this racer a solid choice.

                      Thistledown - Race #6 - Post: 3:20pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,600 Class Rating: 81

                      Rating:

                      #2 SMASH (ML=8/1)
                      #1 SAILOR'S CHANCE (ML=5/2)
                      #5 I'LL FIGURE IT OUT (ML=3/1)
                      #4 REMEMBER THE FEAR (ML=6/1)

SMASH - A wise man taught me to bet on the lone speed horse. Take a look at this horse. SAILOR'S CHANCE - Hurley brings him back again. I recommend you stay with this hot gelding. Taking this jockey/handler combination is a smart choice. I'LL FIGURE IT OUT - This gelding is in nice form. Ran second on June 29th. Is ranked number one in earnings per race. A dominant outing right here can augment the lifetime total. REMEMBER THE FEAR - You'll be making money right and left by turning your gambling cash onto this jock/trainer combination. Possibly a peak effort for this gelding today. Been getting closer and the finish with each recent start. Gelding made up a ton of ground in a 6 furlongs race. May go better on the stretchout. I like to play this angle, a pony coming back off a strong contest within the last month.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #7 CANDY CRUSHEM (ML=4/1), #6 RULE IT (ML=5/1), #3 JENNY'S BEIGNET (ML=8/1),

CANDY CRUSHEM - No pace in this group to help set-up his late rally. A strong thoroughbred that's been running well, but he's been off the track in the mornings recently. Finished third in his most recent effort with a substandard rating. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this field. RULE IT - I cannot play this frequent non-winner. Gets the task done now and then. JENNY'S BEIGNET - Hasn't been coming close at all recently. Registered a quite unimpressive speed fig in the last race in a $5,000 Claiming race on Jul 1st. Unlikely to see an improved performance off of that number.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #2 SMASH on top if we're getting at least 9/2 odds

                        Prairie Meadows - Race #6 - Post: 6:08pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $21,236 Class Rating: 46

                        Rating:

                        #6 TYPHOON TIME (ML=5/2)

TYPHOON TIME - Jockey jumped on this mare's back for the first time on Jun 22nd. Should be in touch with the animal even better today. Believe in this horse. No other viable pace gives this horse a strong chance at the winner's circle. This mare likes to be near the lead. Today's event is a shorter distance and should promote her chances. This mare's last speed fig is lofty enough to prove victorious here, I'll invest in her back again this time. Was in a Maiden Special race at Prairie Meadows last out. That contest had an Equibase class figure of 63 and she is moving down in this race. A certain strong challenger. This animal collects a lot of money per race around the track. Uppermost in this race.

                        Vulnerable Contenders: #3 OUR LOCKETS ROCKET (ML=2/1), #2 MO KITTY (ML=7/2), #8 ITSTARTSWITHADREAM (ML=5/1),

OUR LOCKETS ROCKET - Just don't believe she is worth it at the morning line odds. MO KITTY - This filly in all probability won't be on the money at the wire. ITSTARTSWITHADREAM - Today's event is 5 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a short distance affair in the last couple months. Not the best of signs.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Putting our cash on #6 TYPHOON TIME to win. Have to have odds of at least 1/1 or better though
                        EXACTA WAGERS: 6 with 2
