Throughout July, Tuesdays and Thursdays heat up at 1/ST BET and Xpressbet with our Red, White & Bet promotion. Bet $100, Get $10 on select tracks this month. Next up Tuesday will be Mountaineer. Here’s how I’ll approach the card in West Virginia with an assist from the Betmix Angler database.

Mountaineer Race 3 | 7:50 pm ET
#6 Frozen Four (10-1 morning line odds) was an even third in his first start for trainer Wilson Langley, notably the only of 6 turf runners for this barn at Mountaineer this year not to finish in the exacta. Everything else has been on point and expect a big improvement for this gelding who won over the course last year in his only other local grass appearance. Win-place bet #6. Exacta key-box 6 with 1,7,5. Picks: 6-1-7

Mountaineer Race 4 | 8:15 pm ET
#5 Flight Control (9-2 morning line odds) has outstanding early speed for this class level and the gameplan will be simple: as fast as she can, as far as she can. Going to the 7-pound apprentice helps the cause. Trainer Juan Pablo Silva’s Mountaineer turf runners this season are 9-19 in the exacta and show a flat-bet profit on the win end. Presque Isle Downs - Race #4

#2 Cole's Valentine	She tracked the pace in a good spot before fading in her only previous route start, but that was for twice this price, and a similar trip might leave her in the right kind of position to grind this out for a mild upset.
#8 Caparbia	Not sure what to do here, because I expected better last time out despite her being 15/1, but the drop in price tag gives her some room to rebound today.
#1 Channel Me In	She's had a lot of chances, but she has some ability to stay on late, which might be at a premium in a race without much proven finishing punch.
Race Summary	Likely favorites are unaccounted for in these choices -- Cole's Valentine is pretty appealing to me here while getting to the level she belongs at in the third start off the two-year layoff, and I think a spying trip could be exactly what this race shape calls for.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6

#5 John Dutton	He ran a big race off the bench last year and has been competitive with some pretty tough customers over that time. Pace should force the issue from the start.
#6 Souper Forces	Considered him on top here while turning back and getting over a surface that produced a diploma at first asking last season, and he's since shown a bit of class in landing a small Florida stakes race in November. In the mix if he fires fresh.
#1 Going Up	He traded decisions with the top choice last season, and he's quick enough to stay in the mix early in this small spot without a ton of serious pace.
Race Summary	John Dutton gets the call with what I'm hoping will be another big comeback effort this season. Think the race flow flatters his ability to show some attacking pace.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #7

#1 Starship Discovery	Everyone else in here has some sort of pace or tactical speed, so I'm hoping she can just sit back and save ground before launching the last and winning run. She's got a bit of class to prove here on the rise from a cheap spot, but her last was sharp.
#5 Tiger Eye Pearl	She's another with a bit of a class question on paper, but this race is just not very deep for the level any way you cut it, so I think it's OK to just lean on the recent local form. Two-deep race for me.
#4 Intimate	She's probably the most likely of the potential forward players to settle a touch off the pace, and she has been pretty honest over the local footing.
Race Summary	Starship Discovery looked good beating a soft group to graduate last time out, but she's rising to try winners in a very winnable spot for a first allowance try with what feels like a great race flow waiting for her.

#4 TALENTED MAN (3-1)	Barn holds trump card for $467k earner who stands 5-for-16 at Parx.
#3 LASSO (5-2)	Should work out ideal trip as distance which he’s run 1-2 in 6 of 10 starts.
#6 MILES AHEAD (4-1)	Won easily in five-horse field but came up empty in the slop in follow-up.
Race Summary	TALENTED MAN, no factor in a rapid-paced turf sprint, returns to the main track with a live shot at a quarter million in Parx earnings. He has done his best running for the barn that re-claimed him recently and battled until the stretch two starts ago in a race won by Jolly by Golly (6-32, $232k), who came back to win a starter allowance by 6 lengths as the odds-on favorite. Bet to win and place and play 4-3 and 4-6 exactas.

Parx - Race #5

#1 WORLD WIDE WEB (5-1)	Clear second on track that favored closers, gets speed to rally into.
#5 MY BANDIT (6-1)	Ranged up on turn, flattened out in stretch off similar layoff to today.
#3 BUFF GARY (2-1)	Found blinkers of little help, remains a speedy threat nonetheless.
Race Summary	WORLD WIDE WEB ‘closed well’ in the stretch but couldn’t dent the margin of the 8-to-5 second favorite and one of the day’s lone front-end winners. He could sit a similar trip on a fast track today and at least will offer better value for a win and place wager. Also play a 1-3-5 exacta box.

SPASTIC BID - The rider/handler twosome of Silvera and Guerrero has a strong return on investment together. Expect better today as this filly gets Lasix for the 2nd time. You have to really like that most recent race speed rating, 71, which is the best most recent race speed rating of this group. COURAGEOUS FERGIE - Sophisticated analyzers will tell you that this horse has strong pace. I am keen on that recent effort on July 7th at Parx Racing where she finished second. Look at this pattern of improvement. 49/64/68 are the last 3 Equibase speed figures. HONORISIA - I think this filly is coming into top form. Wired the field on July 7th at Penn National. Quite possible she can do it again in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 ROSIE OUTLOOK (ML=7/2), #3 RANTING AND RAVING (ML=6/1), #5 ALWAYS IN PLAY (ML=8/1),

ROSIE OUTLOOK - Hard to bet on this horse out of the July 13th clash. Only faced maidens in that one. Not probable that the speed rating she garnered on Jul 13th will be enough in this event. RANTING AND RAVING - This filly is always hitting the board, but just doesn't get the job done. Difficult to bet on her on the front end. The speed rating last out doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a vulnerable competitor. ALWAYS IN PLAY - While Equibase's speed ratings are solid, I would discount the high one from the June 23rd on a sloppy track. Some horses just run well on the off going. This mount ran a most unsatisfactory fig last time out. She shouldn't show signs of improvement and will probably suffer defeat today running that rating.

Has very strong Equibase Speed Figures and has to be considered for a bet in this race. This filly looks good in this race since Motion has a strong win percentage with horses going this distance. FIRESTREAK - She has put up very good numbers under today's conditions and ought to fare well against this field. VOLUNTARY - Has put up sound speed figures in turf route races in the past. Garnered a formidable Equibase speed fig in the last race. Can run another good one in this race.

ONE STEP BEYOND - You'll be making money right and left by turning your betting money onto this jockey/handler combination. This horse coming off a strong race in the last month is a contender in my book. MR BUSINESS - Tapara was aboard this gelding last out and was impressed enough to take the animal right back. I have to figure Bernardini is making a good move here. This gelding can only benefit from the shorter distance. Bernardini has an 'uncoupled' entry here. Best to beware the longer priced half. Trainer Bernardini moves this thoroughbred down the class scale to face a less competitive field. Look for a good race at this level. This animal has the class to win the race. A tactical ride by Tapara, and this one could bound home the winner.

HOW ABOUT IT - This questionable contender has been disappointing the public as the favorite time and time again. Finished second in his most recent effort with a run-of-the-mill speed figure. DANCING KING - Pony ran a great speed rating in the last race, but that was on a sloppy track. ANTE ANTMAN - Going to have a hard go of it with all the early foot in this event.
