Tough to pass on this filly with Kimes in the irons. IT AIN'T LIKE THAT - Looks very good for the conditions of this outing today, showing solid figs in dirt sprint races recently. Has respectable speed figures and has to be considered for a bet in this competition.

LAPIN DE PLAGE - I think Day Phillips is making a good move here. This filly can only benefit from the shorter distance. I like when a race sets up this way. This filly has the lone speed to demolish this field. This horse brings in a lot of money per start. Number one in this race. Have to give this horse a long look. In recent races, has posted the best speed figs on the turf at this distance. MARY GOODNIGHT - You'll be making money left and right by turning your cash onto this jock/handler combination. Munger is back for another race today after riding on board this animal for the first time on June 13th and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. This filly has the top turf fig in her last race. It doesn't take a college grad like The Brain to figure this here horse has a good chance. I like the hard fact that this filly's last speed rating, 79, is tops in this group.

LADY ADMIRAL - Looks very good for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid figures in dirt sprint races lately. She looks formidable in this spot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point. DELPHINE - She has a good opportunity for this event as trainer, Rushton, has strong win clip with horses going this distance. Had one of the top speed figures of this group of horses in her last affair.

The racing week in Saratoga Springs concludes later today with a ten-race card where older female sprinters take center stage in the Honorable Miss (G2). The six-furlong affair over the main track goes as Race 8 and makes up the center leg of the late Pick 5. Here are a couple spot plays I like most later this afternoon in New York, as well as my thoughts on the feature.


Race 1:
The Sunday slate kicks off with this MSW event for 2YOs over the Inner Turf where eight first-time starters are entered in the main body of the field. This includes some runners for some of the country’s most highly regarded barns, but I will try to beat them with #1 Kipros. The son of Oscar Performance is out a Thunder Gulch mare that won 6 of 16 in her career, including her first two starts over the Santa Anita sod. She was versatile and relished two-turns, while almost all of her foals’ successes have come over the grass. That is exactly what Kipros gets along with a favorable inside draw to kick off her career for trainer Ray Handal. Handal does not excel with debut runners, but deserved better a summer ago with a talented 2YO turf colt in Heeere’s Johnny. Hopefully, he gets some revenge with this $150k Keeneland September ’25 purchase.

Race 8: Honorable Miss (G2)
There is plenty of early speed signed on in this year’s Honorable Miss given the presence of #1 Maida, #3 Striker Has Dial, and odds-on favorite #6 Grand Job. Grand Job comes in off of two brutal nose losses in graded stakes races, including during the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival where she lost by a nose 3-5-favorite Ways and Means. The Justify mare clearly has issues that do not allow her run often, but when she competes in the afternoon’s she means business. The outside draw should allow Junior Alvarado to stalk just off the two inside leaders and take control when they turn for home. The bigger question is who picks up the pieces? #4 Haulin Ice will likely to take the most action underneath Grand Job in the exacta pool, but I am going to try to get a bomb into the number instead. #5 Going Steady ships in from Kentucky for trainer Robbie Medina. The Constitution filly comes into New York in the best form of her career having won a first-level allowance in Louisville five weeks ago. She is almost certain to be outrun early, but her running style gives her a big chance to pass a number of tiring rivals late. Hopefully, it is good enough for second or third.

Race 9:
My final play of the week comes in this $130k allowance at 6.5-furlongs over the main track where Qatar Racing’s #4 Senior Officer is likely to be a significant favorite. The son of Into Mischief is lightly-raced, but has never been worse than second. The Brad Cox conditioned gelding won his first start over this surface last month when nailing longshot Contrary Thinking at the wire. He is a solid favorite, but not unbeatable, so I will take a small swing against with #5 Sacrosanct. The Linda Rice trainee makes his second start of the form cycle after a runner-up finish in a state-bred turf race in late June at Aqueduct. Rice sports extremely strong numbers over the years when making the move from grass-to-dirt and this guy’s effort two-back over the main track was a strong one. Manny Franco has been riding well this summer thus far and retains the mount on the former Cox runner.

Running Aces has a 12-race card with the $50,000 Dan Patch Final rolling in Race 8. The Free-For-All also starts the 0.50 Pick 5 that has of $45,280.68 carryover and a Forced Payout. The Spot Plays are in Race 9, Race 11, and Race 12. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 9 (8:56 PM CST)

8-Fifty Rivers (7/2)-Left from the 7-hole last week and rallied from the backfield with a 56.1 back half to finish a close 2nd. The outing wasn't typical, usually is racing on the point once the wings fold. This time comes back in sequence and will look for an aggressive steer from the word-Go. The 2nd program chalk should offer a fair price, and its Aces record is difficult to ignore (7-3-2-2).

1-Banker's Grace (9/2)-The 5-year-old likes to get on the engine or race close to the lead. She wins off that kind of trip and having the rail should help execute that plan. Gets needed post relief, fits, and this is the level where a picture can happen at a square price.

When you dive into a card and prices jump out, you get excited. That could be the case on Sunday at Del Mar, where an 11-race program features the Grade 2 $250,000 Eddie Read. Formidable Man is 7: 6-1-0 at Del Mar and a legitimate favorite to defend the Eddie Read title he secured at 4-5 odds last summer. But it’s the undercard that offers lucrative opportunities. First post is 5 pm ET / 2 pm PT.

Each day this summer at Del Mar, I’ll be handicapping the action with my top plays on the card – including full-card selections for a featured program each week (this week’s full-card came Saturday).

Del Mar: Race 1 | 5:00 pm ET
#8 Corporal Violette (6-1 morning line odds) comes from an obscure jockey-trainer combo, which helps insure a good price. But note she won this condition in October and like many of the Starspangledbanner offspring does excellent work on this turf course. Love the second-off-the-layoff and sprint-to-route form cycle; she upset at Santa Anita at 8-1 the last time trainer Mark Rheinford sharpened her in a sprint prior to routing. Win-place bet #8. Del Mar: Race 2 | 5:32 pm ET
#1 Bello Rosso (15-1 morning line odds) gets a longshot look with a chance to show some rail speed if allowed to cook early. Resisted restrained last out in his first route and Kyle Frey gives him his best chance if able to get into gear in a short field without a ton of early pace. The offspring of Violence move way forward at Del Mar (20% wins, 19% profit in recent years coming into this meet). None of these proven at the distance and likely favorite, #2 Van Gogh Style, has failed to last on the lead in his last 2 shots. #3 Mickey (by Gem Heist) also bred for Del Mar success. Del Mar: Race 6 | 7:40 pm ET
#7 Boracay Miss (20-1 morning line odds) doesn’t look like much on paper, but perked up with some speed in her last 2 and catches a weak field while getting some weight break with the apprentice. Omaha Beach offspring are a sharp 23% winner over the Del Mar dirt in recent years coming into the meet and note trainer Jeff Bonde’s first 4 starters this stand averaged 10-1 odds and included a pair of runners-up. Win-place bet #7. Exacta box 7-5. Picks 7-5-11

Del Mar: Race 8 | 8:40 pm ET
#4 Lovely Medaglia (12-1 morning line odds) is 2-for-2 sprinting and wasn’t embarrassed vs. tougher in a turf route last out. Back to a very winnable level and offspring of Gato Del Oro continue to outrun their odds and have positive showings on this main track. The rest of the field hasn’t had any local success and little experience as well. Win-place bet #4. Daily Double 4-8 to Formidable Man in the Eddie Read. Picks 4-8-3
