At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the New York Rangers over the Florida Panthers. The Rangers come into this second game of 2012 off of their thrilling 3-2 victory over the Flyers outdoors in Philadelphia in what proved to be the most exciting edition of the Winter Classic to date. With 52 points, New York is now tied for second in the points lead in the NHL along with the Blackhawks (the Canucks moved ahead of both of them on Wednesday night). Meanwhile, the Panthers' storybook season has taken a bit of a downward turn. After winning 16 of its first 28 games, Florida has now lost seven of its last 11 and at least part of the problem for this club has been injuries. The Panthers currently have eight of their regulars either out indefinitely or questionable for this game, and the reasons include everything from an abdominal injury to a concussion to a possible suspension for a racial slur directed against an opposing player. The other problem for Florida is that the Capitals are starting to find their stride again so the Panthers' stay atop their division may be somewhat short-lived. The Rangers are 21-7 in their last 28 games and Florida is 5-13 in its last 18 vs. the Atlantic Division. Also, Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist is 5-0-0 in his last 5 starts, including a 4-1 win Friday vs. Florida, with a 1.20 GAA. He's also 7-2 his last nine vs. Florida with a 1.22 GAA. Take the Rangers. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.

At 9 pm, our selection is on the Indiana Hoosiers, as Michigan falls into a negative 87-156 ATS system of mine based on its seven-game win streak (and the fact that they're going on the road off a string of home games). Overall, the Wolverines are 12-2, but they've yet to beat a quality team on the road. Indeed, they've only notched 2 wins this season against Top 50 RPI clubs (Memphis (in Maui) and Minnesota (at home)). In their lone road game this season, they went down to Charlottesville, VA, and the Cavaliers blew them out 70-58, as 3-point favorites. In that game, Michigan was limited to 44% FG Shooting, and was outrebounded 36-26. We had UVa in that game, and we'll play on Indiana, which has won its first 10 home games here at Assembly Hall, tonight on Thursday. Indiana is 17-2 straight-up and 13-5-1 ATS its last 19 home games vs. Michigan. Take the Hoosiers. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.
