Cincinnati Reds @ St Louis Cardinals - CARDINALS TO WIN (-114)
    Listed Pitchers: Cueto vs Lohse
(Note: I'm risking 2.28 units to win 2 units)
5* New York Yankees Run Line -1.5

The Minnesota Twins opened up their series with the Yankees with a 7-3 win, making them 3-7 on the season. The Twins were swept on the road against Baltimore to open the season making last night their first road win of the season. In their previous series at home against the Rangers the Twins were also swept scoring just 6 runs in their three losses. The Yankees lost dropped them to 5-5 on the season, and 2-2 at home. Tonight's starting pitch up match up heavily favors the Yankees with Francisco Liriano going for Minnesota and ace CC Sabathia going for the Yankees. Liriano is 0-1 on the season with a 10.00 ERA. He has pitched 9 innings allowing 15 hits, 10 earned runs, with 6 strike outs and 5 walks. He also has a high 2.22 WHIP and .375 opponents batting average. In 2011 Liriano went 9-10 with a 5.09 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, and .249 opponents batting average. Sabathia hasn't been himself in his first two starts of the season, but pitching at home should help him get back on track. Sabathia has pitched 12 innings giving up 16 hits and 9 earned runs for a 6.75 ERA in his two starts. Last season Sabathia went 19-8 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and .255 opponents batting average. He was also 8-3 at home with a 3.07 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and .234 opponents batting average. In his career against Minnesota Sabathia is 13-8 with a low 2.98 ERA and two shutouts. The Twins victory on Monday night was a rare win in New York, as the Yankees have beaten Minnesota in 33 of their 41 games at Yankee Stadium. Take note that the Twins are 6-20 in Liriano's last 26 starts vs AL East opponents, 2-5 in his last 7 road starts, and 1-6 in his last 7 starts vs the Yankees. As a team dating back to last season the Twins are just 6-20 in their last 26 road games, 2-8 in their last 10 road games vs a left-handed starter and 13-38 in their last 51 vs AL East opponents. The Yankees are 45-10 in their last 55 games as a home favorite of -201 or more, and 38-17 in their last 55 home games. The Yankees are also 45-16 in Sabathia's last 61 starts as a favorite, and 37-14 in his last 51 home starts. The Yankees are 24-6 in Sabathia's last 30 starts as a favorite of -201 or higher, and are 4-1 in his lsat 5 starts vs the Twins. Minnesota is a team that the Yankees have dominated recently and I look for that to continue tonight with their ace on the mound at home for the first time this season and with them coming off a loss last night.

Boston Celtics at New York Knicks

The Boston Celtics (36-25, 31-28-2 ATS) renew their rivalry with the New York Knicks (31-29, 31-29 ATS) at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY Tuesday night at 8:00 ET in a game carried on TNT. The Celtics sat out their veteran Big Three of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen on Sunday, and yet they still managed to cover as road favorites in a 94-82 win over the hapless Charlotte Bobcats. The Knicks meanwhile lost 93-85 on national television to the Miami Heat on Sunday, although the New Yorkers still hold on to the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a two game lead over the ninth place Milwaukee Bucks and just six games remaining.

The Celtics can afford to rest their aging stars because they seemingly have a lock on the Atlantic Division title with a four game lead on the Philadelphia 76ers and five games remaining. That means that Boston is basically already assured of being no worse than a four seed, although it is still mathematically possible to finish third as the Celtics trail the Indiana Pacers by 2 games. Regardless, pending a miraculous collapse, Boston will have home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Now that does not mean that the Big Three will sit out again here, and Pierce and Garnett are indeed listed as probable. Allen is a different story as he has missed five games with a legitimate ankle injury and he remains questionable. Boston has been one of the hottest teams in the NBA since the All-Star break and the Celts have rewarded their supporters by going 18-7-2 against the spread in their last 27 games. They have not minded travelling recently either, going 6-2 straight up and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight road games including upset wins over the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers.

The Knicks look to be in good shape as far as the playoff picture goes, but they cannot continue to be a one-man show, and that cost them in the Miami loss. That one man is Carmelo Anthony, who poured in 42 points against the Heat. That marked the second straight Sunday that Anthony went off vs. a marquee opponent on national television, as he scored a season high 43 points vs. the Chicago Bulls last week. The difference this time around though was that Anthony got precious little support, as no Knick starter scored more than nine points and the only other player in double-digits was J.R. Smith, who provided 16 points off the bench. Still, you have to give the Miami defense credit as the Heat's philosophy was apparently to let Anthony score his points and suffocate everyone else. Even with that loss, New York is still 18-4 ATS in its last 22 home games as well as 14-5 ATS in its last 19 games overall.

However, the Knicks will have to overcome Boston's absolute dominance of this head-to-head series the last two years. If we include the four-game sweep by the Celtics over New York in the NBA Playoffs last year, they are now 10-1 straight up vs. the Knicks since the start of last season, with the only Knicks' win being a non-covering two-point win on opening day this season.

                    PICK: NY Knicks -3
