    DENVER -1½ over L.A. Lakers

The Lakers blew a big opportunity to close this thing out in Los Angeles last game and now this aging club has the enviable task of trying to close it out on the road. The more the Lakers travel to and from L.A. to the mile high city, the better it is for Denver. The Nuggets are younger, fresher and very used to playing in the high altitude. After that win in L.A., Denver’s confidence should be soaring and suddenly, JaVale McGee has emerged as a significant factor. The Lakers have a size advantage and they have Kobe Bryant but Denver’s bench is significantly stronger, as it has shown in every game of this series. Prior to game five, the Nuggets were not shooting well. That also changed last game and if they can even come close to matching their shooting percentage they posted last game or for the entire season, they’re very likely to force a game seven. Play Denver -1½ -107 (Risking 2.14 units to win 2).

Texas Rangers @ Baltimore Orioles - RANGERS TO WIN (-123) **GAME #1 - 4:05 PM EST START**

        Listed Pitchers: Lewis vs Chen
(Note: I'm risking 2.46 units to win 2.00 units)

The Texas Rangers will look to lock up this 4 game series against the Orioles by winning tonight's game. This one follows a historic night where Josh Hamilton went 5 for 5 including 4 home runs for 18 total bases - an unbelievable performance. Texas is now 20-10 on the season, and 12-5 away from home. The Orioles are still an impressive 19-11 on the season and 8-6 at home. Texas has won 7 straight meetings between these two clubs and are looking for #8 tonight behind Colby Lewis. Lewis is 3-1 on the season with a 2.97 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and .267 opponents batting average. Lewis started the season with 5 straight quality starts before being roughed up a little in his last start at Cleveland (10 hits and 6 earned runs over 6.2 innings). Take away that last starts and Lewis has been stellar. Rookie southpaw Wei-Yin Chen takes the mound for the Orioles tonight. He is 2-0 with a 2.76 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and .250 opponents batting average. Take note that the Rangers are hitting .308 against lefties with a .364 OBP. In comparison the Orioles are hitting .243 against righties with a .303 OBP. I look for Colby Lewis to return to his form and out pitch Chen who is facing a Texas team who has scored 24 runs in the past two nights and are averaging 5.67 runs per game. Take the Rangers.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets

It is rather surprising that there is a sixth game in this series between
the Los Angeles Lakers (44-27, 30-41 ATS) and the Denver Nuggets (40-31,
39-32 ATS). The Lakers appeared to take control with a road win in Game 4 and
few people expected them to lose at home in a close-out spot in Game 5.
Instead, Los Angeles came out unexpectedly flat and did not really play with any
sense of urgency until the final minutes, when their nice comeback fell short
in a 102-99 defeat. So here we are for Game 6 from the Pepsi Center in
Denver, CO on Thursday night at 10:30 ET on TNT, where the Lakers will attempt
to win in the altitude for the second time in this series in an attempt to
avoid a winner-take-all in Game 7, a situation that LA has not been accustomed
too in the first round of the playoffs in recent years.

The Lakers have only themselves to blame, and center Andrew Bynum did not
help matters any when he was quote as saying NBA Playoff close-out games were
"actually kind of easy", an implication that the opponents generally quit
in this spot on the road unless it is a Game 7. Well, the Lakers discovered
just how "easy" it was when they got down by six points at halftime, by 11
points after three quarters and by 15 points midway through the fourth
quarter. It was at that point that Kobe Bryant, who finished with 43 points, went
on a scoring barrage that saw him hit four three-pointers in the final 4:45
of regulation time, the last one of which trimmed the Denver lead to 98-96
with 1:00 left. Then another three-pointer by Ramon Sessions trimmed the lead
to 100-99 with 12 seconds left, but that was the end of the Lakers' scoring.
Yes, Bynum's comment no doubt motivated the Nuggets, but that is still no
excuse for the Lakers' lifeless performance through three and one-half
quarters, as they seemed almost disinterested at times and ended up shooting just
38.9 percent for the game despite Kobe hitting almost every shot down the
stretch. Just about the only positive to come out of the game for Los Angeles
is that it got 19 bench points, albeit from two players as Matt Barnes
scored 11 points and Steve Blake added eight. They will probably need at least a
similar performance from the bench in the Denver altitude with the starters
needing some rest, a situation that could have and probably should have been
avoided if the Lake Show would have held serve at home.

Of course, you cannot underestimate the Nuggets' performance either, as
they indeed played like a team that is not ready to pack its bags despite
playing in hostile territory. The one edge that Denver has in this series over
the Lakers is a far superior bench, and indeed its two leading scorers in Game
5 came off the pine as Andre Miller poured in 24 points and JaVale McGee
had the game of his life with 21 points and 14 rebounds. All tolled the Denver
starters had 52 points and the backups had 50 points! The Nuggets were able
to run the Lakers out of the Pepsi Center in Game 3 because of that depth,
although Los Angeles was able to combat the altitude in Game 4 with the
bench providing 26 points in a 92-88 win. As usual in games played in this
building, the play of that Laker bench should determine whether or not there will
be a Game 7. as it is a given that the Denver depth is enough to neutralize
Bryant if he has to try and win this game on his own.

One interesting takeaway from this series is that both games in Denver
stayed easily 'under' the total, bringing the 'under' to a lucrative 13-3 in the
last 16 head-to-head meetings between these teams in Colorado.

                  Pick: DENVER NUGGETS-1.5

                      Philadelphia 76ers -3 LOCKED (x2)

I am going to be playing the Philadelphia 76ers in game 6 against the Chicago Bulls. This series prior to game 5 was 3-1 Philly up. Teams up 3-1 in the NBA Playoffs have gone on to win the series 96% of the time. The Bulls did win game 5 and I know the Bulls will win if it does go to game 7. That leaves Philly with game 6 to seal it at home and I believe they will. Derrick Rose is OUT, *Joakim Noah is OUT, Gibson sprained his ankle and could face suspension and Deng has a hurt hand. I

The big issue with Chicago right now is their scoring. They are not getting anything easy inside and they do not score on the fast break. Philadelphia has 67 fast break points to Chicago's 45 in this series. The Bulls are not scoring in the paint either. Philadelphia has 122 to Chicago's 87 points in the paint. In game 5, the Bulls fast break and points in the paint reached lows in the series. Chicago only managed 9 fast break points and just 3 points in the paint (lowest all season).

Chicago really lucked out in game 5 that Philly couldn't hit anything shooting 32% from the field *and 18% from 3. Philly only scored 10 points in the 2nd quarter. Despite Philly shooting terribly, they were with single digits the majority of the game and just one good run from the lead. Chicago got 24 points from Luol Deng and I don't expect him to play that well again. Iguodala had held him to 11, 5 and 8 points the three games prior and I think he will really lock in on him in game 6. Deng is one of their only reliable scorers. The Bulls got lucky and hit a bunch of shots late in the shot block in game 5 and I don't see that happening tonight.

Philadelphia is a much better home team this year. They are 21-14 at home while not even above .500 on the road at 17-19. The 76ers are 2-0 at home against the Bulls so far this series. The 76ers made 4th quarter come backs in both games at home. The problem with the Bulls was that they could not keep up offensively late in games against the 76ers. This all goes back to the loss of Derrick Rose, their go to scorer on the road. The Bulls with him out do not have a go to scorer. The 76ers have now won every 4th quarter in this series thusfar.

One of the Bulls biggest strengths has been their depth over the years. I do not see them having that strength in game 6. Taj Gibson is hurt and possibly suspended. The only other players that played significant minutes off the bench last game and in this series have been Ronnie Brewer and John Lucas. Kyle Korver was normally a strong piece off the bench for Chicago but he hasn't been playing at all in the playoffs. He's averaging just 4ppg. Brewer is averaging less than 2ppg. Lucas has only had 1 good game in this series. His last 3 games he has struggled shooting the ball at 33%. This bench is not being a big x-factor thusfar.

Some of the Bulls starters have really been hurting them as well. CJ Watson is a guy the Bulls badly needed to step up when Rose went OUT and he has been choking big time. Watson is shooting 25% in this series and has yet to have even a decent game. Richard Hamilton has been terrible as of late as well shooting 40% or worse in 4 of the last 5 games. He's shooting just 40% for the series. The big reason these guys are struggling is because they are spot up shooters. They need guys penetrating inside and kicking it out to them to get their points. With Rose OUT, no one on the Bulls is getting into the lane or creating double teams. Neither Watson or Hamilton can beat their guy off the dribble. You don't have to double Boozer or Noah/Asik, so they aren't finding guys open. Deng is really the only guy who gets into the lane but he doesn't pass. He's averaging less than 2 assists per game in this series. Brewer, Lucas, and Korver off the bench are not going to be creating and finding guys open.

The Philadelphia 76ers offense has much more offensive versatility. They are as mentioned already heavily outscoring the Bulls inside and on the fast break. Jrue Holliday is a guy that can get in the lane and create open looks for others. Louis Wililams can also create off the dribble. Both Turner and Iguodala can put up big offensive numbers on any given night. Spencer Hawes has been putting together big games in the playoffs. He had a double double in game 5, 22pts/8reb game 4 and 21pts/9reb game 3. He put up his big numbers at home and I expect the same in game 6 at home from him. Thaddeus Young is another guy you can count on to get you 10 points every game. He had a horrible game 5 with 0 points but I expect him to bounce back. Young will be matched up with Gibson. Gibson has had the advantage all series long but I think his sprained ankle will slow him down allowing Young to get off.

Doug Collins has already said he does not want to go back to Chicago. Basically saying that this game 6 is an absolute must win. Philly right now is the better team, much healthier and at home. They've beaten Chicago 3 of the last 4 without Rose and beat them both times in Philadelphia. Philadelphia is the 2nd best home defense in the NBA allowing just 85ppg. I think the Sixers will really slow down the Bulls offense that lacks weapons/versatility right now. The 76ers have multiple guys that can put the ball in the basket and I think they will simply outscore Chicago tonight.

Game: Atlanta at Boston (8:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Game Total UNDER 173.5 -110

The Boston Celtics came within one point of closing out this series in five games, but the Hawks prevailed at home to live for a Game 6 at the Garden. These teams have played slow, and ugly in this entire series. The defenses have ruled the first five games. With Boston at home, where they are always tough on the defensive end, and with Atlanta once again facing elimination, I expect the intensity level to go up a notch in Game 6. Atlanta has managed just 82.6 points per game including overtime points, so they will likely struggle to find 80 points here in Boston. The Celtics have topped the 80-point mark just one time in the five games without overtime, so this one looks like 160s or less. The Hawks are now 8-2 to the UNDER in their last 10 quarterfinals playoffs games, and Boston is on equal ground at 8-2 to the UNDER as a playoffs favorite in their last 10. Play this one UNDER the total.
