            1 UNIT = New York Yankees @ Detroit Tigers - TIGERS -1.5 (+125)
            Listed Pitchers: Hughes vs Verlander
(Note: I'm risking 1.00 unit to win 1.25 units)

Detroit won the first two games of this series in New York by scores of 6-4 and 3-0. Tonight the Tigers have a chance to go up 3-0 with their Ace on the mound. In two postseason starts Verlander has worked 16 innings allowing just 7 hits and 1 earned run against while striking out 22. On the season he put up Cy Young numbers again going 17-8 with a 2.64 ERA, .217 opponents batting average, and 1.06 WHIP. His best pitching came at home where he was 9-2 over 15 starts with a 1.65 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and .187 opponents batting average. Verlander went 0-1 in his first two starts against New York this year, but his most recent was at home where he went 8 innings allowing just 2 earned runs while striking out 14. He will be facing Yankees starter Phil Hughes who went 6.2 innings allowing just 4 hits and 1 earned run in his start vs Baltimore, but that start came at home. During the regular season Hughes was 11-4 with a 3.74 ERA at home, but a much different pitcher on the road going 5-9 with a 4.76 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and .279 opponents batting average. He faced Detroit twice this season (both in Detroit) pitching a solid complete game back in early June, but more recently going just 4.1 innings allowing 8 hits and 4 earned runs on August 7th at Commerica. The Yankees have scored just 13 runs over their last 6 games (2.17 runs scored per game), while the Tigers have scored 26 over their last 7 (3.71 runs per game). Note that the Tigers are 46-17 in Verlander's last 63 starts, and 43-11 in his last 54 home starts. The Tigers head home with momentum and their ace on the mound. Verlander is lights out at home most games, while Hughes struggles on the road. I think we have value with the Tigers on the run line tonight.

2 UNIT (WED) = San Francisco Giants @ St Louis Cardinals - UNDER 7 RUNS (-103)
            Listed Pitchers: Cain vs Lohse
(Note: I'm risking 2.06 units to win 2.00 units)

                        LA Lafayette -3.5 3.3* play

The home dog is not always the answer and tonight is one of those times it’s not in my opinion. One thing has been consistent all year for the Rajin Cajuns. When they can run the ball they win the game in dominating fashion. Tonight they face a North Texas team that’s vulnerable to the run. Norht Texas is 118th allowing 5.8 ypc while the Cajuns are 23rd with 5.2 ypc in their balanced offense that will give North Texas issues. The Mean Green showed an inability to stop both against Houston. ULL vs. bottom tier run defenses – FIU, Tulane, Troy (ranked 71st, 115th, and 73rd), and won by a combined score of 126-57. With North Texas liking to run the ball nearly 56% of the time this game starts with the run and Laffayette has a considerable advantage up front ranking 18th run defense too. So this creates an issue for third down assuming the Cajuns have more success running the ball than North Texas.

North Texas will have many more 3rd and longs and they are ranked 110th with a 30.56% third down conversion rate. On defense they are ranked 105th in stopping teams on third down. Lafayette comes off a game in which they were finally able to convert on third down going 7-14 against Tulane and I think that carries over as they should also have success passing the ball under their new QB making his third start in Terrance Broadway who is a dual threat and has been very good. He goes up against a pass defense that has also played poorly – 122nd in completion % defense allowing opponents to complete nearly 70% of passes and they rarely get sacks. The Cajuns have only allowed 4 sacks the entire season so there are not a lot of opportunities for negative plays.

Lastly because both offensive lines play well this game could come down to turnovers and the Cajuns are ranked 12th at +1.2 turnovers per game while North Texas is 51st at +0.2/game. Overall I’m confident in the Cajuns stopping North Texas offense and they should be able to do what they want with their running game first setting up the pass. Broadway will have another good day leading his team.
