The convention would be to take the Yankees with their ace to avoid elimination but bear in mind that the Over has been predominant more often than not when Sabathia starts against the Tigers. Plus, I think the Yankee bats finally wake up against Scherzer who the Yankees have had success with. Sabathia has given up 8 runs in 22 innings versus the Tigers this year and that includes 6-2, 9-4 and 12-8 with the latter two coming in Detroit. Sabathia did win all of those games though. Scherzer has given up 3 runs in less than 5 innings against the Yankees this year. There are also at least 5 Tigers who have a .267 average or better lifetime average against Sabathia with at least 10 at bats and 4 of them have over a .300 average against him. With the Yankees facing elimination and coming off getting dominated once again by Verlander I do think they will see some much better pitches to hit and consequently will produce more than 3 base hits this game. Note, the Over is 9-1 for Sabathia when he is a road favorite and the Over is 4-1 for the Tigers when they face a lefty at home.
