Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder (11-4, 9-5-1 ATS) are coming off of a historic win over Charlotte, although they probably will not have as easy a time vs. the Houston Rockets (6-7, 6-6-1 ATS) Wednesday from Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma at 8:05 ET on NBA TV. The Thunder beat the Bobcats 114-69 on Monday, and that 45-point winning margin was the biggest margin since the franchise moved from Seattle. However, this will be the Thunder's fifth game in eight nights, and while the Rockets are playing the second of a back-to-back, they had been off since winning their second straight game on Friday vs. the previously hot New York Knicks before Tuesday.

The Thunder have won five of their last six games, although the previous three wins before Monday were all by 10 points or less, which becomes significant with this line projected to be around -10. Oklahoma City has certainly been scoring points, scoring at least 100 points in each of the last six games including the only loss in that stretch, a 108-100 loss to the Celtics in Boston. In fact, the Thunder have one of the best offenses in the NBA, ranking second in the league in scoring at 104.4 points per game, as well a second in both three-point percentage at 41.7 percent and overall field goal percentage at 47.9 percent. However, the reason for the string or relatively close games before the Bobcats came to town is the defense had become rather lax, allowing a disturbing 106.5 points per game in the previous six games, and remember that the Bobcats are not be best shooting team in the league, so the Thunder defense was not the only reason Charlotte was held to 69 points.

This contest also marks the return of James Harden to Oklahoma City after the Thunder traded him to the Rockets just a few days before the start of the regular season after he and the Thunder could not agree on a contract. The Rockets got off to a hot start this season with Harden going wild in the first few games before both he and the team leveled off. Still, Houston does rank fifth in the NBA in scoring at 101.3 points per game and Harden is still ranks fourth in the league in scoring at 25.2 points per game as the starting shooting guard for the Rockets after winning the Sixth Man of the Year award while coming off of the Oklahoma City bench last year. He figures to get a positive response from the Thunder home crowd and you know that he will be extra motivated for this contest. Harden has not been a one-man show though as all five Houston starters are averaging double-digits, so we are probably more likely to see the struggling Thunder defense of recent games here than what we saw against Charlotte.

Interestingly, the Rockets are 4-1 ATS in their last five games vs. teams with a winning percentage above .600 and the Thunder are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games vs. teams with losing straight up records.

      Pick: OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER-9

4 Unit Play. #759 Take Boston College +1.5 over Penn State (9:15 pm ESPN U)

This play is more about going against Penn State, as I do not believe that they will win many games especially now since they lost their all everything player in Tim Frazier. He led the Lions in points, rebounds, assists, and steals last season and you just cannot replace that type of player and expect to have any success. The Lions did beat Bucknell last Friday night, but there stats were very telling, as they shot just 45% from the free throw line and just 5 for 31 from the field in the first half. Penn State is 1-4 in their last 5 games against ACC teams. The Lions are also 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.

Not much good can be said about Boston College, since they are coming off a home loss to Bryant College on Saturday. But this team does have a couple of good players led by Ryan Anderson and he has too much talent to be playing this poorly. He is coming off an injury and I would expect his play to improve over the last couple of games. Boston College did beat Auburn and took Charleston (on the road) and Baylor to the wire. They have more talent than does Penn State and getting this many points is too good to pass up. Penn State folded in epic proportions when Frazier went down against Akron losing by 25 points despite having a 4 point lead in the second half. This will be a low scoring game that goes down to the wire and I can see the winning margin being less than 4 points. Getting this many points is too good to pass up, as the Eagles won it outright.

7 Unit Play. #766 Take Washington State -6 over Idaho (10 pm PAC-12 Network)

We used the Cougars numerous times last year for 7-unit plays and will ride them yet again against an inferior opponent playing at Beasley Coliseum. Washington State also leads the all-time series 161-106, including wins in 15 of the last 17 meetings. Idaho's last win in the series came in 2002. I am a big fan of Brock Motum and he is clearly the best player on the floor this evening and expect him to go off for close to 20 points. Wazzou is getting it done on the defensive side of the floor allowing less than 60 points per game. The Cougars are 3-0 at home this season and all three games have been blowouts. Idaho played well for 20 minutes against New Mexico before falling apart in the second half and that is how we expect this game to go as well. The refs will not give Idaho many calls and thus you can expect a big discrepancy in free throws for the home team. Washington State returns three starters off of a squad that won 7 PAC-12 games last year. Washington State is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games.

5-Unit Play. #794. Take South Dakota State -18.5 over North Dakota (Wednesday @ 9:30pm est).

South Dakota State should do well today. Whenever you make a selection having extra motivation is always helpful. What you have here is a team headed by Scott Nagy who is is a top 75 team. South Dakota State prides itself on a solid offensive output as they are top 15 in the nation in offensive efficiency. They are also in the top 60 in the nation in turnover percentage which helps their offensive output as well. They will play this game at home remembering their split with North Dakota last year. The difference this year is that they were on the end of a 19 point loss to this team on the road last year. South Dakota State is a solid team this year losing to Alabama on the road by 3 points and beating two top 200 teams in Tennessee State and Marshall at home or neutral footing. This is a North Dakota team who they have revenge over and who is outside the top 200. North Dakota lost to Northern Iowa on the road 72-47 which is a 25 point differential. I bring that game up because Northern Iowa is a top 75 team as well and they had no such motivation such as this rivalry that South Dakota State posses against them. At some point, North Dakota State will be a decent play and they will turn it around. But, right now, South Dakota State is a solid team who has revenge and who has done well against top 200 teams and now faces one that is around the 250 range at home. Plus, North Dakota is around the top 250 in offensive efficiency and they face a very dynamic offense today in South Dakota State which could get out of hand throughout the course of this game. The Jackrabbits of South Dakota State are 8-2-1 ATS when facing a team with a winning percentage of less than 40%.

Indian Cowboy's Picks For NBA Basketball

4-Unit Play. #721. Take Under 192 Minnesota vs. LA Clippers (Wednesday @ 10:35pm est).

These two teams hook up in a matchup that has yielded back to back unders the last two times they have met. Minnesota comes off a solid win against Sacramento as the game went Under the posted total and now they face a Clippers team that is struggling a bit. The Clippers have lost their last 3 and look to bounce-back here against the Timberwolves. Although I wish the Clippers did not come off in their last game, this is a good option as Minnesota has been playing to the Under of late on the road. This is a good public fade here and the Timberwolves Under is 4-0-1 to the Under on the road and the Under is 12-5 for the Clippers when they face a team with a straight up losing record.
