302 ATL -3.0 (-130) Bookmaker.com vs 301 NOSAnalysis: Forget that the Saints have beaten Atlanta in 11 of the past 13 meetings, including edging the Falcons, 31-27, in Week 10 thanks to a late goal line stand.

The Falcons are the right play for many reasons not just being the home Thursday team and having a revenge angle. They are a far better team than the Saints, who have only outgained their opponents twice all season.

The Falcons' defense is of the bend-don't-break variety, but it still ranks light years ahead of the Saints' terrible defense. New Orleans ranks among the three worst defensive teams in both passing yardage and rushing yardage. The Saints can't stop the run, which is going to make Matt Ryan even more effective off play-action.

The Saints can only stay with high-octane offenses by scoring a lot of points. Drew Brees, however, isn't as dominant on the road as he is in the Louisiana Superdome. New Orleans also has a cluster injury problem in its offensive line. The Saints just lost right tackle Bryce Harris for the season with a broken leg. They also have two other offensive linemen injuªred so there's a distinct possibility they could be starting a fourth-stringer at tackle.

Then there's the situational element. The Falcons are thirsting for revenge. They want to show off on national TV against their long-time hated Southern rival. The Saints are down mentally having lost at home to the 49ers this past Sunday in a must win spot. It's very tough for them to travel and play on Thursday after taking on the punishing 49ers

            Big Al

At 8:25 pm, on Thursday, our selection is on the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons to go 'under' the total. This play is largely technical in nature, as it falls into 152-102, 168-101 and 54-24 Totals systems of mine. It's well known that scoring in the NFL has increased in the last few years, due to rule changes that have benefited the offenses. Now, over/under lines in the 50s are much less rare than they used to be. Still, this game's number is tough to reach, regardless of the offensive potency of the teams involved. And that's because things largely have to all go right for a game to produce 8 scores (or more, if the scores aren't all touchdowns). There can't be missed field goals, turnovers in the red zone, etc. Indeed, since 2006, in the regular season, there have been nine games with totals priced at 55 or higher. Eight of the nine have sailed 'under' the total. This game will too. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

At 8:25 pm, our selection is on the New Orleans Saints + the points over Atlanta. The Falcons are 10-1 on the season, but they're a very FORTUNATE 10-1, as they're only outscoring their opponents by 7.1 ppg. Although only Houston has as good of a record as Atlanta, there are six teams which have higher scoring margins, including the 7-4 Giants and 8-3 Bears -- both of whom look up at Atlanta in the NFC standings. Regardless, Atlanta' record is 10-1, and I like playing against such clubs in the last weeks of the season. First, undefeated or 1-loss teams are generally overvalued by the betting public, due to their gaudy records. And, second, they could suffer from a bit of complacency, since such clubs have virtually wrapped up their divisions (Atlanta is 4 games ahead of Tampa in the NFC South race). For technical support, consider that teams with W/L percentages greater than .900 are an awful 34-58 ATS at Game 12 forward. Take New Orleans. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Miami Heat minus the points over San Antonio. The Spurs have compiled the greatest stretch of 33 road games (in the regular season) in NBA history, as they've now won 29 of their last 33 dating back to last season. And that 29-4 streak on the road is one game better than that compiled by the Chicago Bulls over 1996 and 1997 (28 wins 4 losses). Unfortunately, tonight's game against Miami is a horrible match-up for the Spurs. Miami, of course, boasts the league's best player in LeBron James. And any chance the Spurs had of competing tonight went out the window a couple of weeks ago when their two small forwards (Kawhi Leonard and Stephen Jackson) went down with injuries. Leonard may come back for the Spurs' next game, an important one against division rival Memphis. But Jackson will be out for another 15 to 25 days. Thus, the Spurs don't have a player to adequately guard the 6'8" James. Boris Diaw and Tim Duncan are too slow; DeJuan Blair too small (and ineffective). Without Jackson and Leonard, coach Gregg Popovich has gone to a lot of smaller lineups, and Gary Neal has seen some valuable time. But a real small lineup won't work vs. the Heat. As an aside, it's possible that Popovich will "punt" this game, and rest Duncan, Manu Ginobili and/or Tony Parker. If so, the line will move higher. So it is advisable to get down early, if you can, before any such decision by Popovich is made. Last year, because of the shortened schedule, these two teams met just once in that abbreviated season. Miami fell behind by 20 points in the first half, only to destroy the Spurs after intermission en route to a 120-98 blowout win. Miami also blew out San Antonio in Miami's home game two seasons ago. I look for yet another blowout win tonight. Lay the points. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

              NCAAB

Western Illinois -5 (2 units) - Looks like a huge mismatch on paper. Western Illinois has played their opponents well and look good in person. South Dakota is 2-0 at home this season but Western Illinois looks good right now.

Pepperdine -1.5 (1.50 Units) - Montana st is 3-1 ATS but they have been walloped by mediocre teams. Pepperdine is far away a better team and with the amount money on Pepperdine tonight, it looks like a good bet.

              NCAAF

Rutgers -3 (2 Units) - Looks like Bridgewater might be out tonight against a hungry Rutgers squad that was trounced last time by Pitt. Both Defenses are very good, but Rutgers gets a slight edge there and a big boost offensive wise with Stein at QB for Louisville.

              NBA

Denver -1.5 (1.50 Units) - Denver was rolling prior to the Utah loss. The Jazz are a very good home team so we are giving Denver a pass here. Golden st does have revenge, but Denver getting a short favorite looks too good to pass up.
