4-Unit Play. #748. Take Santa Clara -7.5 over George Mason (Monday @ 10pm est).

Santa Clara is playing great basketball right now and are playing as good as anyone in the country frankly. This is a team that has won 24 games this year and in this tournament alone they have won by 10 against Vermont a top 140 team at home, beat a top 70 team Purdue on the road by 3 points and beat a top 120 team in Wright State by 12 points on the road. Put that in perspective, they are in a good spot facing George Mason at home today who is a top 140 team. I'm not fond of laying the points too much but then again, Santa Clara wants to be in this tournament and comes off putting 86 against Purdue a big team on the road and 81 against Wright State two decent defensive teams who are top 40 and top 60 defensive teams. George Mason is outside the top 150 when it comes to defense. And, Santa Clara faces this team at home and they are top 80 in turnover percentage compared to George Mason who are outside the top 175. With Santa Clara playing as well as they are and with Mason facing a tough task on the road where they have struggled such as losing by 20 to Northeastern or to a team outside the top 250 in NC Wilmington, this could be a tough task for George Mason. I like Santa Clara to continue playing their solid play and and look for them to cover game one of this best of three series.

4-Unit Play. #743. Take Over 200 Portland vs. Utah (Monday @ 10pm est).
Portland has some young, exciting talent on hand this season. Rookie point guard Damian Lillard leads the way and if he lives up to the hype, the Trail Blazers can build around him. Portland also has three solid veterans (Aldridge, Matthews, and Batum) for Lillard to work with, so this team isn't without hope. This is a key match-up for the Trail Blazers as their postseason efforts are slipping away and Utah is a team they need to catch. Utah is still a relatively young team. Aside from Al Jefferson and veteran Mo Williams, three main contributors are all (22) years old or younger. In order to win, Utah needs those guys to develop and improve their defense. With the postseason in sight, the Jazz have the same record as the Lakers at (38-36), and the Musicians own the tiebreaker for the final playoff spot in the West. The Jazz have scored (107.8) per game - (9.4) above their season average - during their current four game winning streak, and they will be taking on a Portland team that has allowed (111.0) per game and lost by an average of (18.7) points over its current four game losing skid. Look for the Musicians to play their ?String Music? at home in Salt Lake City in a high scoring playoff elimination game for Portland. With Portland not playing well in Golden State in their last game scoring less than a 100 points and with the Jazz needing the last playoff spot and have covered their last 7 games, and playing in Utah for that matter, while Portland has revenge and on a bounce-back, look for this game to likely go over the posted total.

There is no surprise as to why these two teams are hooked up to kick off the year. The Dodgers have spent a lot of money over the off-season upgrading their team with both speed, power and pitching. Note that fading World Series Winner if they open on the road has been very profitable over the years. Clayton Kerhsaw has a 1.37 ERA in 16 career starts vs. SF. Matt Cain is just 4-8 vs. the Dodgers in his career. With the Dodgers being pumped for this game to see what their new look team will provide irrelevant of the spending costs, you have to like LA and their chances here as Kershaw is looking to start the year on the right foot. The Dodgers are historically solid when Kershaw starts as a home favorite of -110 to -150 as well as they are 8-0 as home favorites as such. Look for the headline Dodgers to start off the season on the right foot with a win on Opening Day.

This is a huge game for both teams with the Rangers sitting in the
eight seed for the playoffs while Winnipeg sits in the Southeast
division lead with 38 points with Carolina sitting at 34 but has two
games in hand. This is the third meeting between these two this year
with the Jets winning the first two. Both teams have struggled lately
with both having a lack of offense with the Rangers being shutout in
their last two games and losing four of their last five games while the
Jets have lost four of the last six games and have only scored two
goals in each of those losses. I think something has to give here with
New York this team is too talented to be this bad, I think this is a
gut check game for New York and because of how they have played we get
a discount in the price. The only time these two have played in New
York this year the Rangers were a -1.55 home Favorite but yet we get to
lay -1.45 today with both teams struggling. I think we will get a big
effort here from the Rangers and I will lay the chalk.

2-Unit Pick Take #9 St. Louis (+1.05) over Minnesota (8pm, Monday, April 1st)

The Wild are playing the best hockey they have played this year that
has pulled them in a tie for the division with Vancouver. I like this
Minnesota team but they're coming off a emotional high coming back to
beat the Kings winning their fifth straight at home. This Blues team
will be focused coming into Minnesota for a game that is huge in the
standings and for their confidence, this is a good St.Louis team that
should make the postseason. When you look at this number and as good as
Minnesota has played their still just a -1.25 home favorite, makes no
sense take the Blues tonight.
