    Robert Ferringo's Picks For NHL Hockey

    7-Unit Pick Take #4 New York Rangers (-1.15) over Pittsburgh (7:35pm, Wednesday, April 3)
    Please Note this is our "Game Of The Year"
    Anytime you stepout and make a big play you better have the most value in the line giving you a edge and while some might think that Pittsburgh who lost for the first time in fifthteen games last night would bounce back against a Rangers team that is out of the playoff picture right now and is a team that the Penguins have beat all three meetings this year would hold value. I think the Rangers are turning the corner, this is a team that has a good core of veteransthat won't panic even with the fact that they should be much higher in the standings. The Penguins lost their first game last night without Sidney Crosby, I don't think going forward that Crosby being out of the lineup will slow them down too much, they have played without Crosby for a lengthily time in the past. The Penguins have two key injuries on their blue line with defenseman Paul Martin and Kris Letang out which I think hurts them more. The Rangers are in full desperation mode sitting two points back of the Islanders for that final playoff spot and with back to back games against Pittsburgh this first one is extremely important. Look for a big effort from a New York team that is quickly becoming a bet on team for me.

                        Bryan Leonard | MLB Money Linedouble-dime bet 908 ATL (-124) BetOnline vs 907 PHIAnalysis: PHILADELPHIA @ ATLANTA

                        It was not a good spring for Roy Halladay. He posted a 6.06 ERA, opposing batters hit .323 off of him, and he completely failed the eye test with scouts and writers. Halladay dealt with a drop in velocity, putting him in the mid-to-high 80s. Until he proves that he can survive with lessened velocity and flatter breaking balls, he should be an easy fade candidate. Halladay, who will turn 36 in May, has nearly 2700 regular season innings of work on his arm and he may just be reaching the end of the line.

                        The Phillies struggled with lefties last season, going 23-30. Some of the team's top hitters by OPS against southpaws are gone, including Shane Victorino, Carlos Ruiz, Hunter Pence, and Ty Wigginton. Lefty Paul Maholm gets the ball for the Braves. In 11 starts last season with the Braves, he was quite good, striking out over 7.7 batters per nine innings and posted a 3.54 ERA. More importantly, Maholm recognized the need to throw more ground balls in a pretty good hitters' park in Atlanta and posted a well above average ground ball rate of 53.7%. Lefties neutralized Utley and Howard last season and that should go a long way in helping the Braves win.

                        Add in a pretty good Braves offense and the concerns with Halladay and this line looks like it should be higher than it is.

                              Dr. Ed Meyer | NBA Sidesdouble-dime bet 507 PHI -4.5 (-110) Hilton vs 508 CHLAnalysis: The Bobcats are getting a very small number here because they are back home after a 0-3 road trip in which they allowed an average of 114 ppg. Charlotte has continually disappointed their backers in this spot, as they are 0-10 ATS since the start of the 2010 season at home after at least three road losses. The straightforward SDQL text is:
                              team=Bobcats and H and p:AL and pp:AL and ppp:AL and season>=2010
                              Charlotte has lost these ten games by an average score of 103.1 to 83.3 points. Ouch.
                              Yes, the Bobcats have revenge for a 100-92 loss in Philadelphia last Saturday. However, the Bobcats have been the worst team in the league - by far -- at home when seeking same season revenge, going 12-38-3 ATS (-5.1 ppg) at home when facing a team they lost to as a dog in their previous same-season match-up. That 24% winners.
                              Philadelphia qualifies for a top-ten system of ours. The league is a staggering 50-12 ATS (5.3 ppg) as a road favorite with at least one day of rest after a home win in which the percentage of their baskets that were assisted was at least ten percentage points higher than their season-to-date average. This is a very nice system because the SDQL is the only program that can track it -- which means we get full line value. AND it makes great handicapping sense. Road favorites need to be playing as a TEAM to get the cover and assists are a great barometer of team play. This season, the system is 12-2.
                              The Sixers themselves are 7-0 ATS (6.1 ppg) with two or more days of rest after a win in which more than 70% of their baskets were assisted.
                              The public is greatly overestimating the Bobcats chances here. After March 10th, Philadelphia is 7-4 straight up, losing to the Heat at home by only four and losing to the Clippers, Nuggets and Jazz -- all on the road. After underperforming most of the year, the 76ers are coming together mentally. Lay the small number.
                              MTi's FORECAST: Philadelphia 108 CHARLOTTE 93
