The Lakers were playing at a very fast pace in March, as generally teams coached by Mike D'Antoni do. They had a span of seven games where their pace factor was 96.56, 92.29, 92.95, 92.89, 96.58, 103.64 and 96.88! The pace was very quick, they were hitting a lot of treys, but then they played a back to back game at Milwaukee, where they had no legs to compete against the quick Bucks on a back to back spot. The truth is that after that game, Mike D'Antoni finally gained some conscience and looked at the lack of depth on this roster or the fact that he had Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard on the frontcourt. I don't really know what happened, but the truth is that since that game in Milwaukee, the Lakers's pace factor went to back to what it was in the Phil Jackson era. After their game against the Bucks, they played in Sacramento against the super fast paced Kings and the pace of that game was 83.8!!! Then, they faced against the run and gun Mavericks at home and the pace was 89.2! Finally, they faced the Grizzlies at home and the pace was once again slow with 86.9! I know Memphis is a slow paced team, but it's important to note that the Lakers decided to play slow against them and defeated the Grizzlies on their own game.


They will face the Clippers today and the Lakers will no incentive to accelerate the pace of this game against the Clippers's young legs. In case you don't remember, the Lakers allowed 125 points to the Clippers the last time these two teams faced each other. There was indeed a completely change of style on the Lakers on their last three games, where they scored just 4, 9 and 4 fast break points, while they are basing their offense more in Pau Gasol's post ups, who has been playing very well. This change only benefits the Lakers and they are now playing better also on defense. All of these comes from the fact that they are having a bigger control on the flow of their games.


The Clippers are a halfcourt team and having in account the Lakers's current style, I believe this game will be slower than the first three games played between these two teams this season. This should turn this game into a very interesting one, as both teams have very powerful frontcourt to turn this contest into a very physical one, on a playoff-like battle. Of course Chris Paul will have a clear edge over Steve Blake, however the Lakers's defense is now a better unit than they were earlier on the season due to Dwight Howard being healthy again. Therefore, I expect a physical slow-paced contest in here, something that should turn this game into a low-scoring affair. So, I'll be taking the Under in here.

The Grizzlies’ team dynamic changed after they shipped to Rudy Gay to Toronto, prompting a peculiar amount of overs, but Memphis has returned to its stout defensive ways and has its under bettors cashing again. The Grizz have gone low in four consecutive games and 10 of their last 14 contests. Memphis visits Sacramento Sunday before hosting lowly Charlotte.

-The Milwaukee Bucks have clinched a playoff berth in the East, but moving up from the eighth seed will be awfully tough down the stretch. 4-Unit Play. #517. Take Dallas -3.5 over Portland Trailblazers (Sunday @ 9pm est).The Dallas Mavericks are on the brink of a rebuilding season in the next couple of years so it's important to win now. The Mavs have a favorable schedule down the stretch as they attempt to keep their postseason hopes alive. The Mavericks remain three games behind the Lakers for the Western Conference's final playoff spot and (2 ½) back of ninth-place Utah. Portland made some questionable moves this offseason and its roster is basically a mixed bag of youth and washed-up veterans. The Blazers have lost by an average of (17.3) points during their seven-game skid which has officially eliminated them from playoff contention. Dallas is (3-1-1) ATS in the last (5) meetings in Portland, (8-3-1) ATS in the last (12) meetings overall with the Mavericks (22-8) ATS in their last (30) road games and the Trail Blazers (1-7-1) ATS in their last (9) Sunday games and (1-6) ATS in their last (7) games overall. Bear in mind I'm not a huge fan of road favorites, but with Dallas needing this game and having the motivation, and having covered this matchup the last 3 times they have hooked up, combine that with Portland dropping its last 6 of 7 covers, look for Dallas to do well today and likely cover this game despite being on the road.

5-Unit Play. #1. Take Under 5.5 Goals Detroit vs. St. Louis (Sunday @ 12:30pm est).
I've always believed regardless of the sport when winning teams face each other, they have a tendency to go Under. These teams use these regular season matchups as a benchmark to see where they need to improve upon and how good they are for a Title run. Such is the case with both of these squads today. Detroit and St. Louis have gone over the last 4 times they have played but it is likely to be different today. The Under has been a huge moneymaker this season when you take into account games that start prior to 1pm est and that is likely to be the case today as well. The Under is 7-2-1 for the Blues when they face a team in the Western Conference of late and the Under is also 6-1-1 for the Red Wings when they play after 1 day's rest. With these teams having played each other 4 times already this year, one has to think they will be used to their strengths and weaknesses and there is no better opportunity than to take an Under on an early Sunday morning game. St. Louis has given up 5 goals in their last 3 games and with Detroit taking away their one game where they gave up 7 goals to Chicago, they have given up 2 goals or less in 7 of 9 contests. I like Detroit here at home with some revenge and for St. Louis to shore up their quality defense of late as well as this game likely goes under.

5-Unit Play. #10. Take Buffalo -110 over New Jersey (Sunday @ 7:35pm est).

Buffalo has an opportunity to do well today at home. They have begun to play a bit better and they catch New Jersey on a slump here. These are two relatively even matched teams but at this time it is about motivation and Buffalo remembers their 2-3 loss to this New Jersey team earlier this year in extra time. Combine that with Jersey having lost 6 in a row and 8 of their last 10, along with these teams trading wins and losses for the past 5 meetings, look for Buffalo to have the motivation with revenge at home today. Hockey is about streaks as is baseball frankly and you have a Buffalo team at home that just beat Pittsburgh 4-1 on the road and did not have a let down and beat Ottawa 4-2 at home as a +118 underdog. The Devils have struggled on the road as they are 1-10 in their last 11 road games overall and Buffalo to their credit are on an up tick and 5-2 when coming off a day's rest as well.
