Spurs at Nuggets: What Bettors Need to Know

San Antonio Spurs at Denver Nuggets (-3, 204.5)

The Denver Nuggets attempt to set a franchise record for consecutive home victories when they have a showdown with the Western Conference-leading San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. The Nuggets previously won 20 straight home games during the 1984-85 campaign and are a league-best 35-3 at home this season. San Antonio is 23-15 on the road and waged in a battle with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the top spot in the West. The Spurs have a half-game lead.

Denver has won four consecutive games and 19 of its last 21 and has a half-game lead over the Memphis Grizzlies for the No. 3 seed in the West. The Nuggets have continued to win despite recent injuries to starts Danilo Gallinari (knee) and Ty Lawson (foot). Gallinari is out for the season and Lawson hopes to be back before the playoffs start. The Spurs will likely be without point guard Tony Parker (neck) and backup forward Boris Diaw (back) and continue to play without veteran guard Manu Ginobili (hamstring). San Antonio is 2-1 against the Nuggets this season.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, KENS (San Antonio), Altitude (Denver)

ABOUT THE SPURS (57-20, 39-36-2 ATS): Veteran power forward Tim Duncan has put together solid back-to-back outings. Duncan recorded double-doubles in both games while averaging 27.5 points and 12.5 rebounds as he moves forward from recent knee soreness. The 31-point performance in Saturday’s victory over the Atlanta Hawks was Duncan’s third 30-point contest since March 16. He has nine double-doubles over his last 11 outings. Duncan has put together three strong outings against the Nuggets this season, averaging 22.7 points, 12.3 rebounds and 4.3 blocks.

ABOUT THE NUGGETS (53-24, 47-29-1 ATS): Forward Wilson Chandler stepped into the starting lineup for the injured Gallinari and scored 21 points in Saturday’s 132-114 rout of the Houston Rockets. Chandler was deeply affected by Gallinari’s loss as the two have been close friends dating back to their time as teammates with the New York Knicks. They both arrived in Denver as part of the Carmelo Anthony deal and Chandler has been a valuable reserve while averaging 12.1 points this season. “Wilson gives us some very good talent and very good intangibles,” Nuggets coach George Karl said. “So does Gallo. But to be honest with you, they’re quite different. Gallo’s more of a shooter and playmaker. Wilson’s a dynamic runner and athlete.”

      TRENDS:

      * Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Denver.
      * Spurs are 19-7 ATS in the last 26 meetings in Denver.
      * Over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings.
      * Underdog is 14-4 ATS in the last 18 meetings.
      * Road team is 15-3 ATS in the last 18 meetings.

      BUZZER BEATERS:

      1. San Antonio is 4-2 in its last six visits to Denver despite losing 112-106 on Dec. 18.

      2. Spurs F Kawhi Leonard is averaging 23.5 points and 10 rebounds over the last two games following a two-game absence with a knee injury.

      3. Guard Andre Iguodala had a season-best 14 assists and Andre Miller recorded 12 in the win over the Rockets

Phoenix Suns vs. Dallas Mavericks (NBA) - 8:30 PM EDT

              Premium Pick

              3* Pick: Total: Over 202

*3 Star NBA Play of Day* The Phoenix Suns have been pushing the tempo more than any other team in the NBA over the past few weeks. Lindsay Hunter has gotten this team to run and gun, but he hasn't gotten them to play any defense just yet. Dallas' offense is great this year with Mayo, Nowitzki, Carter, etc. The Mavericks are absolutely capable of putting up 120 points on a team like the Suns. Phoenix has been absolutely horrendous on the road of late. The over is a perfect 5-0 in the Suns last 5 games playing on zero days of rest. They were beaten last night in Houston. The over is 5-1-1 in the Mavericks last 7 home games. Take the over.

              Handicapper: Kyle Hunter

Minnesota Twins vs. Kansas City Royals (MLB) - 8:10 PM EDT

              Premium Pick

              3* Pick: Total: Over 8.5

*3 Star MLB Totals TKO* Here we have a combination of two things working in our favor. The Twins and Royals both have a much better offense than pitching staff and both of these teams are starting guys near the bottom of their rotation in this one. Liam Hendriks was beat around all season last year, and the Royals have several guys who have had lots of success against him. Wade Davis has never been very successful in his attempts to be a starting pitcher in the majors. I think both offenses should be able to quite a bit of damage in this one. Take the over.

              Handicapper: Kyle Hunter

Oakland Athletics vs. Los Angeles Angels (MLB) - 10:05 PM EDT

              Premium Pick

              4* Pick: Total: Over 8.5

*4 Star MLB Total Domination* The Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels put a lot of runners on the bases last night, and I think they will again in this one. Tom Milone has been lights out at home in his young career, but he hasn't been very good at all on the road. The Angels offense hasn't clicked perfectly just yet, but they are mighty dangerous. Joe Blanton is absolutely capable of getting lit up by anyone at this point in his career, and the A's bats are looking better this year than they did last season. The over is 7-0 in Oakland's last 7 games. The over is 7-0 in their last 7 against the AL West. The over is 3-0-2 in the Angels last 5 home games. Take the over.

              Handicapper: Kyle Hunter

Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants (MLB) - 3:45 PM EDT

              Premium Pick

3* Pick: San Francisco Giants -134

*3 Star MLB Early Bird Special* The San Francisco Giants made a massive comeback yesterday after Tim Lincecum's poor outing against the Rockies. Colorado led 5-1 early, but the Giants rallied to win 9-6. Barry Zito takes the hill for the Giants in the finale of this series. Zito has been a big moneymaker of late. He has gotten his control back lately and it has made a world of difference. The oddmakers still aren't giving him much credit. The Giants are 8-0 in Zito's last 8 home starts. They are 6-0 in his last 6 as a favorite. San Francisco is 7-0 in Zito's last 7 following a quality start in the previous appearance. The Rockies are 0-4 in Jeff Francis' last 4 against the Giants. Take San Francisco.
